Allison Avery is the middle sister in a family with three girls. Over the years, she has been plagued by feelings of inadequacy since both of her sisters are pretty, blonde, and perfect. She has dark wavy hair and eyes that are too far apart and considers herself to be unattractive. However, when she sells her cell phone to the devil in exchange for seven people thinking she’s beautiful, it sets her on a path to find out what true beauty is.

I thought this book would be humorous, and a fun, light read, but I was rather disappointed because, well... it was none of the above.
First off, I didn't like the characters, and even if I liked them, I didn't have that connection with them, which was a little off for me. I didn't like Charlie, even though she was the main character, she was always self-conscious, to the point where it got annoying when she kept repeating that she could was never good enough. Best first two sentences ever:
"I sold my cell phone to the devil.
In my own defense, it had been a really crappy day."
I picked this book up at the library and laughed out loud when I read those first two sentences. SOLD! In fact the first two pages are super concise. Succinct. Great voice. Funny. And then...
I dunno. It wasn't awful. It just wasn't good.
Maybe I'm just not a fan of the beautiful girl who doesn't realize how hot she is. I me More...

This is a fun, easily readable teen girl family and friends story. It's not going to win any literary awards but it should win popularity awards.
Allison Avery is the middle sister, the quirky one, "interesting-loooking" as her grandmother puts it. Bottom Line: Even though there were major flaws in character and plot, Gorgeous, overall, was a mildly enjoyable read for me. I didn't necessarily like the characters, but I also didn't have a strong aversion to them, and I think that and the fact that I didn't go in with high expectations allowed me to still sort of enjoy the book for what it is: very light chick-lit. The concept had potential, but I don't think Rachel Vail More...

Gorgeous by Rachel Vail was not a book I had high hopes for. I arrived at it through its prequel, Lucky, which I had read while desperate for new material. This book was, however, better than I had thought it would be. Allison Avery is the middle child--right in between cute and popular Phoebe and smart, motivated Quinn. She tries to find herself after making a deal with the devil--a device used by the author to develop Allison's character. But it's not a dark and dramatic deal, just one tr

This book is about a girl name Allison. She is very self concious and she doesn't think she is pretty... Untill one night she makes a trade with the devil and he gets her cellphone. That one wish makes her life upside down.
I can connect Allison to many girls in my grade and lower grades aswell. A lot of girls are self concious about their weitght and how they look and wish they can change or look like someone else.

This is another book that I have read over the summer. This book was okay. I liked it but it wasnt my type of book. It was a book about popular girls living another other popular girls and like always one really stands out because she's more beautiful then the other and conflicts started. This gorgeous girl that stood out in her town was called Allison.Allie as a kid wasnt the special one because she had teo pretty sisters so she didnt stand out as much. Then one day she made a trade and it

It sucks to be the one who is stuck in between two amazing siblings. This is how Allison Avery feels. Her sisters are pretty and talented while she is just... plain.

Summary: The second book in a trilogy dealing with the Avery sisters, whose mother, the breadwinner, has just lost her job affecting them in a variety of ways. This book is about the middle daughter Allison who has always felt herself to be the least pretty and least valued of the family. She ends up selling her cell to the devil for a chance at gorgeousness.

This book isn't about love or life particularly, however, it's about a girl, Allison, giving up her cellphone to the devil so she can be "beautiful." The ironic part is everyone already thinks she's gorgeous. The reason she feels this way is because she has older sisters that are blonde while she's a brunette. Allison gets to get her chance of being "gorgeous" but now she encounters some conflict. She's unable to trust anyone anymore because she doesn't know whether people li

Allison Avery is the middle child in the perfect Avery family, and the only one who isn't perfect. She's smack in the middle of brilliant, hardworking Quinn and charmed, adorable Phoebe. She's the one her father has to read parenting books about, and has to count to ten and take deep breaths when he talks to her. She's the one her grandmother, after complimenting the looks of both her sisters, called interesting.

Allison Avery is what you would call the "interesting looking dark haired" Avery girl. Allison`s two other sisters, Quinn and Phoebe are what you call beautiful and blonde. Allison feels that she will never be beautiful like her sisters until the devil visits her room one night and says that he can make her gorgeous, but under one condition: he wants her cell phone! Allison is going through friendship troubles at school and getting through the fact that she has her first boyfriend. Wil

Rachel Vail is so good at contemporary chick lit that reads well for teens & adults. I didn't think I'd enjoy this one as much as Brilliant but actually enjoyed it more. Vail's examination/description of Allison (protagonist) was excellent-spot-on--and rang true for a former teen. I am looking forward to the 3rd book in the trilogy about the Avery sisters. They are shaping up as good summertime reads that aren't completely airheaded.

A girl named Allison Avery strikes a deal with the devil - he trades her seven people that thinks she's gorgeous, for her cell phone. But life isn't so easy with her family's financial crisis, being stuck as the middle child, and ow having to see which friends are real and which just like her now that she's pretty. The only disapointment to this book was that it didn't have much suprsises. It was predicitble.

Bah, I couldn't finish this book. I read half of it and then just gave up. T.T
I mean, it was kinda interesting but didn't interest me enough to actually finish reading it...
The characters bored me and kinda annoyed me sometimes. Especially the main character!!! I currently forgot her name and am too lazy to look it up.
I HATE IT WHEN THEY HAPPENS! When you forget the character's name that is...

Ok I do not feel like beating around the bushes for this one so...
Apparently selling your soul to the devil has become so overrated so Allison Avery made a bargain to him and sol her cell phone instead. I actually think that is cool, what I do not think is cool is Allison Avery herself. The whole book her personality is consistent. While I do appreciate that her personality is extremely depression. Gorgeous is a stunning book about how a insecure girl finds out her beauty, her inner and outer beauty. I loved this book and I loved watching Avery, the main character, grows. The story starts with Avery not liking her appearance, being a bit rude, and sometimes mean. Her sisters are both what people think is gorgeous. The Devil comes along and offers to make people think she's gorgeous for her cell phone. Wanting to take him up on the deal, she says yes, and starts on a modeling route after ca

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I honestly believe this book is one of the best things ever written. Thank you Rachel Vail for bringing bedeviled cellphones into my life :)

This was a very good book because I liked how they use to devil to help a person understand something. Like, In order to be beautiful you need to believe you are. Or something like that.

Surprising things happen after Allison bargains her cell phone with the devil in order to be gorgeous. The ninth grader learns a few things about herself, her family and her friends along the way. This book might appeal to middle school students as well as 9th and 10th graders.

Haha this book amused me. :) It was a pretty normal high school story... except for the fact that the girl sells her cell phone (rather than her soul haha) to the devil.

I think this book was amazing, it is one of my favorite books, and it just shows how a girl thought she was just ugly but then she realized how gorgeous she was.
