Kept wasn't entirely what I expected, but I liked it well enough. For a novella the characters are developed well, especially Greta's cat phases are deliciously detailed and ring true.
The story itself is interesting enough, the attraction while not really romantic, feels like a realistic attraction, the evil tribe leader plot felt threatening enough, so plotwise there wasn't anything wrong with it at all.

A therian (shapeshifter)comes to full powers on their moon nearest their twenty eight birthday, but when it looks like that birthday may be her last Greta goes seeking the protection of the wickest mage around.
Cute little short read, the fact that the leading lady was a cat shifter, the meow kind not the roar kind was fun, and I liked the 'evil' mage too. I got this novella as a freebie somewhere and liked it well enough that I'll likely look for the other two in this trilogy.

Eeh... Not terrible, just a rather generic storyline that's kind of boring. Part of that may be due to me not really getting into a shifter who turns into a cat (no, not the wild kind - the house kind).
This book did show me the importance of having some background information. While I hate info. dumps, I now realize a little background is needed in order to enjoy the story. This book has absolutely NONE. There is no explanation at all for why or how Greta is a cat sometimes, why she More...

Points for Creativity and Sarcasm
I have to admit, there were a few rocky patches in Zoe Winters' Kept, but there was also quite a bit to like, most notably the snappy dialogue ripe with sarcasm and sardonic humor between the cat therian (don't use 'were,' they find it offensive) Greta and the big bad sorcerer (who's not nearly as bad as everyone thinks) Dayne. With a surprising amount of exposition that defines an intriguing world and unique mythos, Kept is rather an unusual novella. Most s More...

Overall, this is an excellent read. Especially for the $1 price tag. The writing style of Zoe will keep you engrossed in the story while keeping you guessing as to what is coming around the next corner. The dialog is good and very believable considering all the characters should be locked up in an insane asylum. She weaves great moments of sarcasm and levity with genuine emotion to spin a truly original tale.

Sorcerers, shifters, and vamps, oh my! Yes they've all been written about before. So, no this isn't very original. It's a short book (86 pages I think?). Because of this, there are characters who just have their backstories hinted at. The main drama is sort of just rushed through while everything leading up to it seems to take awhile. There's some awkward dialog. And yet, it mostly seems to work. There's a lot crammed into this novella. I actually feel like perhaps had the author decided to expa

I read this series out of order. I read Claimed first because of the unique plot idea, and I liked that book so much I had to go back and read this one. I just finished it and admit I had a hard time putting it down. Since other reviewers summed up the book, I won't bother with that. Instead, I'll mention what I liked about it.
Since I read Claimed first, I enjoyed seeing Anthony and Charlee before they got together.

In Cary Town, a place alive with magic and supernatural creatures, Greta is a cat therian (shifter) whose blood is sought after by the magical community for spell work. Because of her unusual birth, her special blood is coveted by her own tribe's power-hungry leader Simon, and he's willing to sacrifice her at the next full moon to get it. The only person who can protect her is the powerful sorcerer Dayne. However, Dayne has a bloody history with her tribe and a personal vendetta against Simon

Kept by Zoe Winters is a free read on her site. It's book one in the Blood Lust Series and what a great start to a series. Being a novella it is pretty packed full of story, and an intense sexual entanglement between Greta and Dayne. Greta is on the run from her Tribe of Therian's after discovering she is to be a sacrifice on the full moon of her twenty eighth birthday. Dayne, a mean moody sorcerer with a bad reputation reluctantly takes her in, in exchange for her blood to use in his spells. He

I really liked Greta, she is a cat shifter who is on the run after she finds out that her tribe is planning on sacrificing her. The only person who is strong enough to protect her is Dayne but she is wary of him as he is a dangerous sorcerer who previously killed members of her tribe. I'm not usually a big fan of sorcerers but Dayne was a great character - he isn't a typical "good guy" but the more you get to know him the easier it is to understand why he acts the way he does. Everyone knows that Greta is just an anagram for GREAT , don't they?
Well, you should!!
You should also know that every single Greta on the entire planet is super obsessed with their name. You really really need to know that. It's true. I know. I'm addicted to my own name. And I'm not the only one lolz. I've even done a blog post about how awesome my name is lolz. (Btw... my name is not ERIKA... but we've cleared that up before lolz)

Update
------
It was good, but I'm not a novellas kind of a gal. I need more. Novellas are always going through the events too fast. I understand that it's the point of a novella. Short and sweet, but I prefer longer. I like details. I like to witness the evolution of the relationship. See it become something.
So this is why I gave it 3 stars. Not because it wasn't good, but because I don't like novellas. I feel that this story with more development would've been great.

Here we delve into a supernatural world of were-animals, vampires, and sorcerers who live in hiding alongside humans. The mythology of this series worked well, maybe because we were introduced to the different subspecies of supernaturals in bits and pieces instead of in one fell swoop. When were-cat Greta finds out she's to be sacrificed by her pack, she flees to the one person who can possibly protect her, Sorcerer and all around bad-ass, Dayne. Engaging writing and a set of circumstances th

"Kept" is the first novella in the Blood Lust series by Zoe Winters. The story begins with Greta learning a terrible family secret that causes her to go into hiding for her safety. She chooses to stay with a powerful sorcerer, Dayne, because he is the only one who could possibly help her and keep her safe. Greta is a therian (cat shape-shifter)and her blood is very magically potent for spell casting and she uses this as a bargaining chip with Dayne to help keep her safe. They are immed

Kept is sort of your typical paranormal romance novella. It wasn't hard to read, in fact it was too easy to read. You pretty much knew from the begining everything that was going to happen and there weren't really any surprises. Which, you know me, I love a story that keeps me on my toes. What's the point in spending your time reading something if you already know what's going to happen? Even though the story was your generic story, it was still enjoyable to read.

Makes wonder if I read the same book as all the other reviewers. Heroine annoyed me and had a couple of TSTL moments, in my opinion.
<spoiler>Greta has a dream twice that Dayne betrays her. And so naturally, the dream must be true? Sure, this is paranormal, but as far as I know, she isn't psychic. Then, right after that, she leaves Dayne, aka the only person she professed who could keep her safe, and gets captured. >.< </spoiler>

Greta is a werecat about to be sacrificed by her tribe, and so she is sent to the home of a sorcerer for protection, the same sorcerer who slaughtered half of Greta's tribe twenty years earlier. Shortly after she arrives, Greta goes into heat, setting the stage for a romance between werecat and Dayne, the sorcerer.
I like the concept of werecats as small housecats, and the sex scenes between Greta and Dayne are pretty intense. Still, the werecat tribe leader's motivations for wanting More...

As Greta approaches her 28th birthday, a milestone for therians (shifter), she discovers that she has been earmarked for sacrifice because of her special blood. She seeks protection from a powerful sorcerer, Dayne, who undertakes to keep her safe through to her birthday in exchange for samples of her valuable blood. Can Dayne be trusted, though? Is he working for the very people who want to sacrifice Greta, keeping her captive until he can deliver her to the sacrifice?

This was an awesome quick read. At first I was a little scared I wouldn't get into a story with a shifter who turned into a cat. But that was quickly out of my mind once the story got going. I really enjoyed the fact the main characters didn't go head over heels in love or anything like that. They liked each other and had some awesome sex and wanted to keep each other around but it wasn't an instant connection and no announcing their undying love for each other.

Short and sweet but definetly hawt !! Magic and romance !! Really enjoyed the character development, the story definetly one of a kind uniqiue and saucy. Greta's character I really enjoyed, the whole werecat idea very intersting. The wizard I pictured him the whole time ** grins** ..
The storyline kept me rivited throughout , reading on full throttle the whole way. A short read, but full of substence !! I will continue to read Zoe's novels, and will be purchasing the next two instalments ;) More...

I don't usually review free reads but since this is the first in a series that I am revieiwng that AREN'T free, (and I have MUST-READ-IN-ORDER Syndrome), I figured, what the heck? It's for a good cause.

Greta is a werecat whose tribe plans to sacrifice her during the next full moon. Her only hope for survival is Dayne, a sorcerer who once massacred most of the tribe. What’s that thing they say about the enemy of your enemy?
This book is the first in Winters’ Blood Lust trilogy, and let me right off the bat say you have no excuse not to read it, as it’s free. But there are of course a number of other reasons why you should read it, and I hope to outline those below.

I initially read Kept by Zoe Winters via the free pdf on her site, but I've since purchased it for $0.99 from Smashwords so I could stick the ePub version on my android phone. This in itself probably tells you I felt it was worth something.

Zoe Winters has started a trilogy of paranormal romance novellas. In her first novella she writes about a woman, Greta, whose destiny is to die unless she gets and evil sorcerer, Dayne, to help her and protect her. Along the way they fell in love. Then the betrayal of parents and the threat of doom start to complicate their relationship. Though with the help of an unexpected “friend” the day is saved, but all is far from well.
This book can be found for free on her website.

The book was a fast read. I thought that the story was a good idea. It has a great premise and I liked both of the main characters. I think the author should flesh this out into a full novel and explore the world that she created a little more. I would have liked to know more about the characters backgrounds. Also, the writing felt rushed and stilted, especially toward the end. There was a lot of: "This happened. Then this happened. Then this happened. The End" Overall, it's a good sto
