The second in a series of 4, this book (and series) is actually a sequel to a larger series of books all about pioneers in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and (the original series spans 1880 to about 1900) takes place in the first 4 or 5 years of the 20th century. The characters in these 4 books are the daughters of the women in the first series. These books appealed to my love of all things pioneer, "Little House on the Prairie", life in simpler times, and very Christian without More...

I thought that the Daughters of Blessing series was going to be just like the other novels about the Bjorklund family, but I was wrong. Lauraine Snelling managed to give Sophie a much different voice than the other members of the family. Sophie wasn't as selfless and duty-bound as the others, and that made for a refreshing change. Of course she mended her ways in the end, but the way Snelling brought that about felt natural rather than abrupt and forced as I have seen in other Christian novels. More...

I love the whole series by Snelling so I was happy to have a continuation in the Bjorklund saga. I'm glad I didn't read the back cover as that gave most of the story away. I love her detailed story telling. As always I'm looking forward to the next read.

I've enjoyed listening to this series on audio. It is set at the turn of the 20th century when the car, washing machines, etc. are being added to life on the prairie. I like the characters and the situations. I may go back and read the preceding series after I finish these.

It was better than the first and there were unexpected twists. Sometimes people have to grow up faster than they planned and there's always growth in that.

A; Second in the set I borrowed from a coworker. I identified a bit with Sophie and her dreams of adventure. She was a fun character to explore and the hard working NoDaks still shone through.

Enjoyed this one. This whole series is very good - each one stands on its own, and yet links to the others - making them relevant but you can read them in any order. (Which is good since that is what I am ending up doing!) Sophie in this one made me want to shake her a bit. But then, I guess we all go through really dumb periods where we have to learn to grow up. :)

It took me awhile to get into this one, maybe because it had been so long since I read the first book. Once I got into it I really enjoyed it. I'll have to try to read the next book in this series without such a big gap this time.

I enjoyed this book, because I can relate to the main character Sophie in so many way. She had to grow up fast by decisions she hastily made. Choices that changed the direction of her live in so many ways. There is joy, sorrow, forgiveness, anger, and lots of love. I think the greatest lesson from this book was to see the good that can come from bad situations. The unconditional love of Sophie's mother, the strong but tender heart of her father was especially touching.

So I said that I wouldn't rush to the library to pick up the sequel to A Promise for Ellie. What I forgot is that I had already checked it out! So I'm reading it. So far it is better than Ellie.

Plot moves along well with enough action to keep you engaged. Overall not bad, but still not my fave Christian fiction author.

Another that I loved. Again, the message of always turning to God and not taking things on ourselves. We must make decisions in prayer and not our own selfish indulgences.

Another good Lauraine Snelling book. I love them because they are part of my heritage, and the place where I know live. The people in her series are people you actually know...and care about.
