This is a cute book about a dog, George, who won't bark. He moos, he quacks, he meows - he doesn't bark! (Sometimes when reading this book I go "Why can't his mom just let it drop? Who cares what he does!", but I'm reading too much into it then, and it's worth it to ignore this just to get to the punch line!) So he goes to the vet and... oh, I can't spoil the punchline. Let's just say your average four year old will die laughing.

I am literally on the edge of my seat wondering if George, despite his mother's patient educational tactics, will ever say what Dogs are meant to say. What is George's motivation...is he a slow learner, confused, petulant? I guess I'll have to read it to find out. Where did he learn to Quack? I should just read it rather than manufacturing these speculations.

I am officially appending my review after this morning's read-aloud session with 2nd grade. It was the first time I'd read Bark, George aloud to a class, and it was a HUGE hit. HUGE with a ginormous capital "H". I had the kids turn to each other and rate it after we read it, and every single one of them gave it 5 stars. Then two students came in late, so we read it again, and they did all the animals sounds, especially the last one, with great enthusiasm. This will go on my list of gre

Bark, George by Jules Feiffer is on the NY Public Library 100 Picturebooks List. This is a quick and fun book about a dog that wouldn't bark; he was making various other animal noises, until his mother finally took him to the vet. The story focused around George and his mother, but also introduced the vet as well. This book would be great for children that are just starting to read because it is fun, and it is educational because children can learn sounds that animals make. The illustrations

Absolutely the best book to read at a story time for almost anyone. Funny, animal noises, silly, and a "what happens next?" kind of ending. I took it to read to a kindergarten class once, and I had to read it three times before they'd let me move on to something else!

This book would be a great addition for an early childhood classroom. The book introduces students to the different kind of animals the world has and the different sounds that they make. So along with building their imagination the book also allows the children to gain knowledge on the animal sounds. In addition, to the animal sounds the book leaves a cliff hanger at the end that would be great to spark a classroom discussion on what they want to happen next. This book leaves many opportunities

The story "Bark, George" by Jules Feiffer was the cutest children's book I've read so far. It is a story of a dog, George, whose mother is trying to get him to bark. Every time he barks, however, it comes out as a "oink", "moo", "meow", or "quack quack." The worried mother takes George to the vet, who discovers George has ate a cat, duck, pig, and a cow! After the vet pulls these animals out of George, George then barks like a normal dog.

This is delightful book, perfect for sharing with preschoolers or kindergartners. I have found that it inevitably elicits giggles. I enjoy reading this book with great emotion, shock, frustration, and a surprising twist at the end. I find that I like to pause before turning that final page. The illustrations are deceptively simple yet convey every emotion. This book reminds me of Mo Willem's Elephant and Piggie and Pigeon books. How these authors convey so much in so few words and simple l

I'd never read Bark, George. It's not in my school library, and until last year I'd been in Middle School Land for 10 years. I'm trying to read through all the Top 100 Picture Books from Elizabeth Bird's poll listing this summer, and had to reserve this title from the library. So I'm reading it to my patient 17-year-old son (the future physicist) and he cracked up laughing at the end of the book. I was thinking of this book for pre-K but, hey, even older kids can enjoy it. I'm definitely buying

Poor George has trouble barking. He can make other animal noises, so he goes to the vet. The vet discovers George's problem, making the story fun and quickly predictable, until a twist on the last page. The illustrations are colorful and greatly adds to the ease of reading for younger students. The different animal noises make this book a great read aloud for young students. I would recommend this book for grades K - 2.

I thought this was a good book. I liked how colorful all of the pages were. I think the color makes the book a lot more appealing to kids. I think this is a good and easy read for younger children. The sounds of the different animals could be really fun for the kids to read along with and imitate. The pictures are cute and I think the fact that it is about animals will make the children enjoy it more as well. Also, I feel that kids would find this book to be very funny because of all of the anim

Bark George was a funny book! I really liked it because even though it didn't have many words, the illustrations and story was funny. This book would be great for children who are starting to read and older, I am sure it will make them laugh. It was funny how George couldn't bark because he had other animals inside of him, therefore he made their noises. The funniest part was when he could finally bark and when his mom wanted to show him of he just said hello! Overall, Bark George was a funny an

Bark George is a picture book. During the book, George's mom tries to get George to back but instead he makes farm animal noises. After the vet fixes the problem, George still does not bark, but says Hello.
I really enjoyed being read this book in my E337 class. As a teacher it would be a great book to have your students make predictions on what will happen next. It would also be a great book to use to go over the different emotions that George's mom has throughout the book.

Jules Feiffer did a might fine job writing and illustrating this young children's book. This book is geared towards preschoolers and younger children. This humorous and fun story has simplistic illustrations that correspond with the text. Therefore, the illustrations are that of symmetrical. Children can laugh and connect this story in some way to their life. The illustrations are also very bright, colorful, and great for young eyes. Overall, an adorable work of art by Feiffer!

Repetitive dialogue with lots of animal sounds and sparse, but adorable illustrations make this a good book for young readers to read aloud with their parents. With the back and forth dialogue between George and his Mom or George and the vet, it offers a good opportunity for taking turns reading aloud with your children. Our girls thought it was very funny; absurd and silly, but very funny. I loved George's Mother's expressions throughout the book, so I tried to ham it up a bit!

Bark, George is a picture book about a dog who, no matter how hard he tries, simply cannot bark. He makes all sorts of different animal noises but still cannot bark. The cartoon like illustrations do well to add to the humor of the overall book. I would recommend this book to very young children. It is a very entertaining story, although there is not much to it. Great drawings, funny concept, however it lacks depth, I give it a three out of five.

I really liked this book! I think it is helpful to children to be able to learn all of the different sounds animals make. It is also cute because the reason George was making all the wrong animal noises was because he had the animals in his stomach. Once the vet pulled out the animals George finally knew how to bark. At the end when the owner goes to show George off and asks George to bark he says "Hello." I thought it was a really cute book!

This was a very cute story and a quick read. George is a dog and he has barking difficulties. His mother is beside herself because whenever she tells him to bark, he meows like a cat or quacks like a duck or oinks like a pig or moos like a cow. Mother takes George to the vet and the vet cures George by reaching way down deep inside George and removing a cat, duck, pig, and cow. Now he can bark like a dog...or can he??

This book is about a dog george who cannot bark. He can do every other animal sound but bark. So he gets taken to the vet about it and ends up eating the vet. I thought this book was really clever because at the very end you don't quite get that the dog eat the vet until you really think about it. It was a creative and funny book that uses good use of emotions and lets kids predict what is going to happen next.

This is a book about a dog named George. He can make other animal noises but cannot bark. It is a great book if your going to read aloud because it can get children into the sounds that other animals make. It also keeps you guessing until the end of the book. Then realize how funny it is. The illustration is also great showing alot of bright colors. I would recommend this book to any child of any age.

Bark George was about a dog who did not bark but meowed, quacked, mooed, and just about everything else besides bark. When the dog's mom took him to the vet the vet began pulling differnt animals out of George. This is a good book to talk about predictions. I think it would be an enjoyable read for younger children so they can match the animal noises to the animals that make those noises.

Bark, George is a fabulous read-aloud book for pre-school storytimes. You can watch the eyes grow larger and hear the giggles as George responds to each request from his mother to "Bark, George" with a different animal sound. I love using a Viennese Doctor voice for the Vet - it gives the adults the giggles. And, of course, the ending is a fun surprise - what did George swallow now?

I thought this book was simple but funny. the pictures were simple and not too intriguing. Also i think I would show my kids as a video because thats what I did. the characters were funny and i ended up laughing more. I think the book would be good to read if you had a animated teacher but if it wasnt i think it would be boring. I think a video of it is a way to go :)

I bought this book off of a sale table, only because my son's name is George, and it is one of my favorite children's books. It is a simple picture book, where the mother dog takes her son, George to the vet, because instead of barking, George can only make sounds that other animals make. I won't spoil the surprise, read the book to find out why and what the doctor does to cure him. It always makes me laugh!

Our story time librarain said that this was one of her favorites. I liked it up until when the vet starts pulling other animals out of the dog. (That type of idea like in "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" just rubs me the wrong way). Other parts of it were funny though and a lot of the parents listening laughed a little. Cute little twist at the end.

George's mom said "Bark, George!", and George said "This book is the best!".
Corny review intro aside, this book really is the best. Fun, repetitive, animal sounds, and borderline dark comedy all wrapped up in an adorable package. This is one of my go-to storytime books- if there is ever an occasion to read to kids 3 & up and I am without book or theme, I can always count on 'Bark, George' to save the day.

I wouldn't have guessed, but Little B found this book absolutely hilarious. Didn't know if he would understand the abstract concept of pulling different animals out of the dog when George made uncharacteristic sounds, like "oink" or "quack" but he got the humor. Nice to have good illustrations by someone of the stature of Jules Feiffer for a kids book.

A humorous book, which mixes different animal sounds with the noise a puppy dog is making. Children will laugh and wound why the dog sounds like a duck. This book provides a great opportunity for dialogic reading.

George is a cute dog that cannot bark! Georges' mom gets worried that he can't bark so she takes him to the vet. Every time George wants to bark, he moos or clucks. After the vet takes these different animals out of George, he could finally bark. This can teach students an important lesson about how everyone does and learn at different times.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was quick with bright pictures and even had some humor. I think that young readers would easily be able to finish the book and would definitely have something to talk about at the end of it. While the pictures all may be similar to one another, I think that children will find enjoyment through its use of animals.
