DEEPER

Book by:Roderick Gordon & Brian Williams

Review by: Jacob Cole

First off let me tell all who read this that I have never read a book for the fun of it. In fact the only time I ever read books is books is because of reports and projects, but Deeper and the whole Tunnels series is something different, way different! I stumbled on the books Tunnels and Deeper about two years ago at the book fair. I read about half of it and then it sat on my shelf for six More...

The sequel to its predecessor, Deeper, is like that attraction at Disneyworld that you want to ride over and over and over again.
One of my pet peeves with books is bad cliffhangers. I hate it when you finish a book with a cliffhanger ending, and you really want to know what happens next. You finally get your hands on the sequel, but chapter one doesn't pick up from where you left off- it takes a couple chapters to get back to where you left off. Deeper is not one of those books.

As I read this book I was glad that it moved a lot faster than the first one. There was one part for me that was kindof slower so I skimmed a few chapters. My one critique of these books would be the endings. When I read Harry Potter or Fablehaven, I loved it because I felt like the book had an ending, but still left you wondering what would happen in the next book. These books, Tunnels and Deeper, make me feel like they just ran out of ideas so they ended it there, in a random spot. I like More...

In this sequel to Tunnels, Will and Chester are once again in a subterranean world deep beneath the earth searching for Will's father, Dr. Jacob Burrows. Will and Chester meet up with Will's biological brother Cal and are faced with unspeakable dangers. The Styx, the underground militia and the Limiters, highly-trained mercenaries are after the trio. Will, Chester, and Cal bump into a couple of renegades, Elliot and Drake who are masters at stealthy maneuvers and seem to be in tune with the unde More...

Wow.....nice!!!! The writers give us a lot of things there on the Deeper.
Deeper is like the second world. There are island, ocean, animals (old-time) also plants. And many more things else which related with science.....it's difficult for me to explain.

Will together with his brother (Cal) and friend (Caster) decided go to the Deeper for looking his foster-father, amazing that they can survive live in the Deepers which is imposibble to live there, found things that they never ex More...

Ok. I didnt technicly finish the whole book...
I read the first 200 pages. I was unsure if it would be better than Tunnels, which I did not like (see my Tunnels review), but I was willing to give it a try.

200 pages read. I was BORED. This book, the authors attempted to make it exciting, but just didn't succeed.

The latest book I have read is Deeper by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. This book is the sequel to the book Tunnels. In Tunnels, Will Burrows is a teenage boy, but he is kind of a loner. He only has one friend and his name is Chester. When Will’s dad goes missing, he really wants to go looking for him, because he is the only one he shares a hobby with. The both like to go on archeological digs. When Will finds a secret passage under his house, he goes and looks for his dad there. Him More...

The author of Tunnels has done it again. They made another amazing book. Deeper is more than an average adventure book. It pulls you into the story and you feel like you understand what the characters are feeling. Deeper shows what amazing work the authors of Tunnels can produce.
Will is no ordinary boy. He was born in this underground world called the colony. His mother, Sarah Jerome wanted to escape the colony. She took Will and her younger son, Ca More...

Sebenernya gw ngikutin seri ini setengah terpaksa, nggak enak kalo kita nggak menyelesaikan apa yg telah kita mulai, dan gw mengharapkan banyak (atau minimal sedikit) perbaikan dari buku pertama -- sayang sekali, gw jelas kecewa berat..

Plotnya muter2, nggak jelas, dan terlalu lambat, berasa seperti never ending torture buat gw, bahkan saking frustasinya gw malah ngintip page terakhir dan berniat menyudahi siksaan ini sesegera mungkin, sebelum sadar gw bakal rugi banyak karena gw kan More...

A good follow-up to the first one. Sort of reminds me of a creepier kids version of Indiana Jones that takes place entirely underground (except for little asides about the people Topsoil). Lots of tension, rip-roaring adventure and general wackiness going around in these books, quite enjoyable. I'm curious how long this series is meant to be. I had thought that the 3rd one was the final in the series, but I'm not really sure how they could manage to wrap everything up by then. Although I suppose More...

You know how some writers use trite language and make grammatical errors, but they're such good storytellers that you don't care? Yeah, this is one of those writers. I like this book better than Tunnels, although I'm annoyed that once again it leaves us hanging at the end. It's a blatant ploy to sell more books, and I should refuse to play along, but then I'd never find out what happens. The author knows he has us where he wants us. Dang it.

This book would appeal to adolescent/t More...

Deeper is the second book in the Tunnels series. It was a bit long, but I did enjoy and can't wait to see how it all concludes in the third book. The book kind of ends in a cliffhanger, so I am really dying to read the third, but bookclub book comes first.

Anyway, this book continues the journey of Will and his friends as they go deeper into the Earth's surface to find Will's Father. However, I can't say much more then that without giving away the first book. That is the hard part More...

Amazing book! I didn’t think it would be possible to top Tunnels but this book does. The intrigue and mystery were taken to a whole new level. The characters have even more depth and there were some surprising revelations about both the individuals and some of their character traits. The book has some incredibly sad moments and their success or even survival seems impossible. Yet in spite of this, there is a faint underlying hope that somehow, someway, they just might escape.

And a sister who isn't finished yet... -blurb

This book suffered from repetition, and a decided lack of novelty. It could have been half as long, as many of the chases and explorations were very similar in tone, and did little to advance the overall plot.
I have this feeling that the authors are going for a standard trilogy, with a concrete ending in mind, but they didn't have enough material to flesh the book out properly.
Still, there are some great scenes, a particularly stunning climax, and I doubt that many children will hav More...

Deeper by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams is about two friends named Will and Chester who embark on a journey deep into the Earth’s crust. The story’s plot describes a quest to defeat the evil Styx who inhabit the dark caves within the crust. For a long time, the Styx had been focussed on wiping out humanity and ruling the Earth. The main characters are Will, Chester, Will’s sister - Rebecca, Will’s Father - Dr. Burrows, Will's mother - Sarah Jerome, Will’s brother - Cal, a sniper na More...

Deeper is where this series, the Tunnels series by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams, really gets the ball rolling. You could say that the authors found a comfortable drummer to march to after somewhat stumbling in Tunnels. Taking place in a fascinating, stunningly original subterranean wilderness and thick with action, adventure and thrill all around, this book is one heck of a ride.

In this book, Will Burrows, his best friend Chester, and his younger brother Cal are on the run as the More...

This sequel heightens the drama and the underlying story in far more detail. The first book is mostly about setting up the world and the characters, but Deeper reveals that there’s a much larger world with powerful players and much at stake. It also sets up what should prove to be an interesting plot in the book after this one. As such, there are more layers of conflict and more elements of social commentary. Will unwittingly stumbles upon a war that’s been going on for hundreds of years, and do More...

Why haven't I learned my lesson about series. I want to know what happens but I don't want to finish the books. The authors of this series go on and on and on and nothing much happens in a 100 pages. The plot is pretty good, I am invested in the characters but I realy think that this book, the last book and the next book could have been condensed into one or maybe two really good books. Longer does not necessarily mean better. That said I will be reading the next one because I need to know what More...
