I love this book because it introduces kids to nude art and it put me somewhere I would love to have been as a child. Best of all it turns out to be a true story, which made me love it even more.

The one problem I have is the part where the kid of twelve encounters the nude statue and is told the difference (if that's what you call it) between naked and nude. Boobs are still boobs in my book. And this is what inspires him to be an artist himself. That's how the Darkness works on kids. :(

Excellent story and illustrations. A great inspiration for budding artists like my 7 year old daughter.

Recommends it for: 6-10
The author's story of how he was inspired to become an artist. Not the best writing, but touching nonetheless.

It is hilarious to see kids furtively thumb through this at the library. It is a little annoying to see people try to hide the cover behind over books.
