Terri Blackstock used to write Harlequin romances under a different name. She decided she should be using her writing talents to glorify Jesus Christ and encourage people in Him, so now she writes Christian mysteries. This book is Book One of a series.
I don't think she could ever be accused of writing great literature, but she does write great stories. It's not that her writing is attrocious. It's just that I find her metaphors and similes occasionally to be a tiny bit cheesy. Once in a while, t More...

The ending was pretty good--the rest no so much. She got home on her own.
What if America suddenly lost all its electrical power, its communications, its transportation, its financial system, its government leadership, and its media? What if an upper middle-class neighborhood of families who hardly know each other's names, suddenly had to form a functioning, self-contained community? How would people in the 21st Century, spoiled by microwaves and fast food, air travel and speeding More...

This plot driven novel features wooden characters in a compelling environment. Once you get through the painful introduction of stereotypical American wealthy family, the plot points take over and it's a fun read.
I found the messaging pretty good and personally challenging. The author is hitting on themes such as:
- What is truly important?
- How does technology keep us from facing ourselves?
- Are we trusting in God, ourselves, or a way of life?
- Who can we trust and More...

What if everything electrical stopped working? Not for just a day or two, but indefinitely?
I was raised in a simpler time, but have come to depend on gadgets to get me through the day, and entertain me as well. What if the car suddenly quit running? How would I get to work 33 miles from here? And IF I could get there, how could I do my job without a computer? Without an ATM, how much money do I have? Once Wal-Mart is out of stock, how do I feed my family?

I found this by accident on goodreads...sounded interesting, and it was. I didn't realize it was a christian book until i started reading it. Basically it's a "what if" type book, what if one day everything electronic stopped working all at once, not even generators work. the main characters were welltodo, spoiled, living off of electronics and fancy things. at first i was put off, duh they are rich of course they will survive, they would have stockpiled up more things, more food.

Terri Blackstock is a brilliant writer. In book one of her Restoration Series, Blackstock captured my attention and imagination, making it quite difficult to set a slow, steady pace to read it. I found myself like I was when a child, sneaking in little reading sessions whenever I could. Putting off other tasks in order to read. Bringing the book with me everywhere in case I had just five minutes in which I could read further in the story.

Some consider this book to be too religious, but I personally appreciate its strong, Christian message. Without the religious aspects I would probably give this book four stars. Still a great book.
The story follows the Branning family through a terrible ordeal in which all electronic equipment is rendered useless. Without power, communication, vehicles, clean water, or the ability to go to the grocery store for food or even the bank for money, they must learn how to survive in a new More...

This book was surprisingly good! It was a free Kindle book, and I am willing to read just about anything so I thought I would try it. While it has a bit of religious overtones, which I don't usually get into, the overtones didn't detract from the book.
The story is about a family and their neighbors and how they deal with life after a global event causes everything to stop working; cars, generators, plumbing, phones, electricity. The families struggles to learn how to cook, clean and s More...

This series was recommended to me by my Library. They told me they bought the first book in the series and enjoyed it so much that they bought the series. I tried the first one....it is awesome!
Not know what to expect...the first book starts out at the Airport. Just after Deni Branning arrives, she and her Dad are on their way to pick up her bags. All of a sudden planes start falling out of the sky...the power goes out. Made me think this is the end of the world.

"Last Light" by Terri Blackstock is a believable, well researched novel which details the horrors, inconveniences and struggles for survival that might well occur should an atmospheric surge (EMP)wipe out modern technology as we know it. I am very limited in my knowledge of science and technology but I have always wondered about the possibility of an unexplained occurance in the heavenlies that would strip us of our present dependence on modern technology - cell phones, radio, TV, ban

Without bothering to explain Himself, God takes away all electrical and mechanical power from humanity. Teenagers are outraged, middle aged parents and neighbors throw tantrums, and general bedlam ensues. While shallowly depicted characters in stereotypical situations work out their responses to the crisis of no cell phones, running water, or Home and Garden Network, a killer decides this is the perfect time to begin his serial career.

I downloaded this as a freebie on Pixel of Ink. For some reason I thought perhaps it was a mystery. I was immediately caught up in the story, and quite surprised several chapters in to discover it was actually Christian fiction. The daughter's attitude and parents' response was somewhat unrealistic to me, however, overall it was a very enjoyable read. Well written, formatting great and free of typos which isn't the case in all freebies.

What would you do if everything stopped working: you car, all things electrical, generators, your water system. We've seen similar things in regional disasters like. But what if it were worldwide and you quickly discovered help wasn't coming and you had no idea how long this might last. How would you survive? How would you provide the basic necessities of life like food and water after the first couple of days. How would you protect your family? Even tougher question, what does it mean t

Deni thinks mostly of herself -- her needs. Her wants. But not totally. Her parents treat her like the child she tends to behave like. Everyone is out to protect themselves and their loved ones after the complete power outage catastrophe.

I really liked Intervention that this author wrote. I picked up Last Light as a break away from my normal fantasy novels and because the synopsis totally drew me in. Planes falling out of the sky, cars won't start, no electricity or running water. Great concept of a story. At first, it made me want to inventory my pantry and other reserves, just to be on the safe side. Then the book took a turn that I did not care for, preaching. Now I do not mind when people have their own opinions on rel

Imagine what would happen to our society of we suddenly, with no warning, lost all power. I mean, everything - no electricity, no combustible engines, nothing. Water would still be available if you could get it - but water plant pumps run on electricity, so it would no longer be delivered conveniently to your home. The world's finances would come to a crashing halt. Worse, people would slip into survival mode -- and some of them aren't nice people.

I rented this book on CD for a longer trip I had to take. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the premise of the book was very good/interesting. It made me think about how my family would survive some type of EMP without any electronics/electricity, etc. My main complaint is that the reader would talk softly and then BOOM he'd say something and it would scare me because it was so loud! The other is I wished she would explore more of what life would be like after something of such magnitude, but a

The first in the Restoration Series. What would life be like in an average American family if suddenly there were no electricity? Cars, trains, planes won’t run, no telephones, no lights, no TV. Deni, a young Christian girl in Alabama trying to reach her fiancé in Washington DC is stranded and separated from everyone she knows with no way to contact them. The worst of man’s nature is revealed as store shelves are depleted and fear grips the populace. The best of man’s nature is revealed as Deni’

Suddenly a community of suburbanite Americans must live with no electricity, ono techy devices. Blackstock's novel seriously challenges any assumptions that American suburban culture (car-centered, materialistic, insular, disconnected from God's natural creation) is sustainable, spiritually or ecologically.

I am writing this review several years after I read the book, but it has stayed on my mind for years, so it definitely passes the 'thought provoking' test. I love the Christian take on the crisis, and the fact that it made me appreciate what I have and be more thoughtful about preparing for emergencies. Now that I have also read "One Second After" (not recommended due to the language), I found myself reflecting more on "Last Light" and have become chillingly aware of how po

Let me preface this by saying I am not a religious person, nor did I know upon downloading this book (for free to my Kindle) that there would be such a blatant hit-you-upside-the-head-with-a-bible message in it. That most definitely colored my opinion of it.
The premise is great - civilization shuts down and reverts to a time before technology, electricity, and all the creature comforts we have become accustomed to. A plot device that had such great potential became a "trust in g More...

I just started it but already love it. "Night Light" is the second book but I read it first - can't wait to read this one and then the last two. I recently discovered this author but love her style.
Now that I have finished it in my book it is a must read. For those times when you just need a little entertainment and a break from those deeper nonfiction books you are reading. Great writing style, great plot, thought provoking and one of those you can't put it down cause More...

I finished this book in October. I'm doing a review now as I am going to soon start reading Night Light (Restoration #2).
I recieved this book as a free ebook from Christianbooks.com. I wish the rest of the series was free on the net but it's not, so I have to settle for checking them out of my library.

I read the beginnings of five suspense, mystery, and/or thriller books before settling on this book as having the most interesting start. I am glad that I stuck with this book since it turned out to be an enjoyable read. I was pulled into the story from the beginning, and the author kept me hooked throughout with short chapters that kept the story moving. This book was perfect for reading on breaks, too.

I really love Terri Blackstock, and I'm glad I could finally finish the series. (A 24 hour drive is, in fact, good for something!) Blackstock does a wonderful job of creating realistic Christian families who struggle with real-life challenges and human tendencies, and who don't come across as 'better-than-everyone.'
This is something of a 'last days' novel, although it is not like LaHaye's and is not based on biblical prophecies. (And, frankly, I think it is much better writing.) Bla More...

Book 1 in the Restoration series.
What would you do if all of a sudden the electricity went out? Probably not panic because we are use to it always coming back on, right. Well in this book it doesn't! A long time ago my old ward had a book club. I didn't ever go as I already had a book club that I loved. This book was one of their choices. I didn't read it but kept it on my list of books "to read" as it sounded interesting. It has stayed on that list for over 3 years. I finally decided to either read it or take it off my list. So I read it. It has literally given me nightmares for weeks...made me want to buy a gun...and have LOTS of food storage. It is a book that definitely makes y

I enjoyed this entire series. It is all about this upper middle class family and how they respond to a natural event that removes all of the modern day conveniences. They suddenly find themselves having to transform their entire yard into a garden, figure out how to get clean water and protect themselves. They rise to the occasion, grow stronger and help out the community. They grow closer to each other and the Lord as they relearn how to meet their basic daily needs of food, water and shelt

I really liked the story of this book. I was totally entertained and it made me think outside of the box. Why did the author have to ruin the book by preaching? I tried to overlook it and got through the book, but I started the second book and couldn't get very far. Your preaching to the choir lady... It is a shame b/c I thought the book was well written and entertaining. I would have read the whole series if they weren't converting the world and being reborn all over the place.
