I didn't like Amelia Atwater Rhode's writing, though a lot of people would disagree with me. I could tell through her words that she was a young girl, though many people praise her for her literary skill.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy her writing or her story one little bit, I did, I just thought it could've been a lot better from all the hype I had heard. I didn't like the main character, Jessica, at all. I found her stereotypical... ungrateful and frankly someone that I couldn't More...

Interesting setup but mediocre execution. Jessica is an unusual teenager because, unbeknownst to her classmates, she's the author of a recently published novel about vampires. Her classmates shy away from her dark aura (and her unpleasant personality) until two new students arrive. Caryn tries desperately to be her friend. Aubrey bears a striking resemblance to one of Jessica's vampire characters and seems to be stalking her. Jessica soon discovers the world she thought she created from fic More...

Jessica Allodola, a senior at Ramsa High School, is not your average teenager. Under the pen name Ash Night, Jessica has already published a vampire novel entitled TIGER, TIGER. She also has a pretty mean spirit, goes mostly ignored by her fellow students, and acts mostly indignantly towards her adopted mother.

The problem is that with the arrival of two new students in school, Caryn and Alex, her book seems to be coming to life. Caryn c More...

This book was written when the author was only fifteen. I want to get that out in the open to begin with, and yes, I admit that it is indeed impressive to have a book published while one is still in one's teens. That being said, I also think that when a teenage author gets published, s/he must be held up to the same standards as adult authors, and by those standards, well, this book isn't particularly good. There are certainly good aspects to the story, including some exciting fight scenes an More...

This month I have been re-reading Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' Den of Shadows series.

I first read "Demon in My View" 11 years ago when it first came out. I read it's predecessor, "In the Forests of the Night", right before it then and right before it this time as well.

Whereas I remember liking "Forests" more 11 years ago, I remember hating "Demon" more 11 years ago. Time has made most of the things that angered me about this book seem l More...

The book was fairly entertaining. I'm usually not one to be into romance novels, but this one was okay. The frequency of suprises in this book was astonishing. I didn't expect it to be a romance, and I was baffled by how the villian was portrayed. I also loved how analytical the author was of Jessica's actions, and Fala's displeasures. However, this book, is equally as cliche as the Twilight series. It's all just a bunch of high school drama, and rushed love. Personally, I don't think that books More...

I have to admit, I find Atwater-Rhodes' writing style to be a little irksome, even though I am still entirely impressed that she was just fourteen when she published her first novel, and fifteen when she wrote this installment in her "Den of Shadows" series.

Demon in my View is a very meta entry in the series--the main character is a writer who has written several novels about vampires (the very vampires from the first book in the series, In the Forests of the Night), only to More...

I loved this book! I've read it more than once. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has the ability to capture the vampiric essence without the stereotypes one commonly associates with younger writers. I've read several of her books and yet have to find one I didn't enjoy. I found this book refreshingly easy to relate to unlike other such books. *cough* HouseofNight*cough*

Demon In My View is part of the vampire genre. I quite liked the book, it was a very small book being only 176 pages.
I have to say however, I felt that Demon In My View was nothing too special. It was a nice read for a relaxing afternoon and the story line was relatively interesting.
The characters were interesting enough but they weren't special in any way.
Overall, I thought that Demon In My View was an interesting read and good if you want something short to read. But it was n More...

Oh, please, don't let me become one of those middle-aged women who gush over sappy vamipire novels ...

There isn't any sappy-ness in this short novel by the author of In the Forests of the Night. Ms Atwater-Rhodes takes another very different approach to the vampire novel, and does not seek to cloud a strong storyline in sentiment, mournful longing, or glitter.

I am so very glad that a friend shoved a copy of the first novel of the series in my hands, and only later did I More...

When I read In the Forests of the Night, I already fell in love with Aubrey. This book practically made me want to take over Jessica's life. Aubrey is as awesome and handsome as ever and the ending was perfect, finishing off with one single statement from Jessica "So what are you gonna do about it?".
I'd choose Aubrey over Edward Cullen anytime. No offense, Twihearts.
What happened to Jessica in the end was kind of predictable though but Amelia pulled it off. Who would've gues More...

The concept in this book was interesting. I need to go back and read In The Forests of the Night as I think Jessica makes her initial cameo in that book and I hope you learn more about Aubrey. The story kept me going right to the end but everything seems to happen so abruptly. In the space of 176 pages you meet Jessica, learn she dreams are reality of the vampire community, meets Aubrey, falls in love and then chooses to become a vampire. Demon In My View is about a girl named Jessica who writes her own books about vampires, witches and the supernatural. The thing she doesnt know is that her stories are real. One of the issues I had with the first book in this series prevailed in this one as well. The main character, Jessica, was too powerful and too perfect. It was like she could never make a mistake or get bested. The writing in this book improved compared to the previous one, but it was still too juvenile (hence the all-powerful-and-perfect main character). I found that the only reason I continued reading this book and finished it was Aubrey, whom I really liked. He was by far my favorite out of a More...

I enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoyed "In the Forest of the Night," partly because I had trouble with the thought processes of the central character. She slowly turned from sympathetic and interesting into something very different, and it didn't feel like a natural progression, especially given the background for her which slowly emerged. I really wanted to like this book better than I did.

I'm happy to say I'm finally getting a grip on this series and feel compelled to go ahead with the third book. It's scattered because the author jumps back and forth on timelines chapter to chapter but in persevering I have enough character relations base to press forward and see if the newly thickened plot grabs me better in book 3.

I applaud the unexpected concept of dropping the author of book one into the storyline as a character in book 2. Teen writers think stuff up that jumps More...

The second book written by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes... I liked the way she connected her first book to this one, although it was a little bit like watching a soap opera (where they can make anything make sense...).

The sequel to In the Forests of the Night also draws its title from poetry, this time Edgar Allan Poe. This is the story of Jessica, a teen shunned by her entire school. Under the pen name Ash Night she is writing books about vampires. But are they only stories? She thinks so until Aubrey, the vampire in her book, enrolls in her senior class. Is her writing fact or fiction? Has she somehow linked to the mind of a vampire? If she has, she is re-telling their histories and secrets -and they are no More...

Author Amelia Atwater Rhodes penned her first novel, In the Forests of the Night at age 14.
In her second book, Demon in My View she follows Jessica, a girl mentioned in passing in the authors first book, as Jessica discovers the books she writes are true. How does she find that out you ask? Well, the characters from her books (aka dangerous vampires) begin showing up at her door.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has a enticing writing style, one that comes alive in her book, "Demon in My View." Part of the 'Den of Shadows' series, it is able to stand on its own and be enjoyed for what it is. It offers a different take on the timeless question of a human desiring to be a vampire, and dives into the life of a teenager who doesn't quite fit in and wants to become who they feel they really are. Vampires are revealed for their true nature, but in a modern way, in Atwater-Rhode More...

I read this book roughly around the time it came out so about 11 years ago. I remember when the Twilight phenom kicked off thinking Stefanie Meyer must have read this book and been "inspired" . Demon in My View is a beautifully written novel and one that I personally can identify with because the author was just fourteen I believe when she started to get her work published. The story of Aubrey, this hell-bent vampire, who stumbles upon a human girl and has to decide what he feels is right about letting her live or not, is a heart-wrenching plot. This series pre-dated the Twilight saga by 8 years or so. I think it's better written and uses a more faithful representation of the vampire condition, rather than an impossibly idealized one like Meyer uses. I suppose the book didn't take off like Twilight because Atwater-Rhodes didn't play up the angsty teen romance enough... At any rate, this book (and the others) are relatively short, so you don't have to listen to the heroine whining for 300 pages about her impossible love like you have More...

I admit after re-reading this short novel, it is better than I remember -- especially considering the age of the authoress, or perhaps because I have read recent YA vampire novels that are far worse, leaving this one to be just mediocre. The novel is quite short (novella, rather) and very quickly paced.

The story begins with a beautiful, ill-tempered, green-eyed gothic girl who writes vampire fiction under a pseudonym. However, the vampires from her books start to come aft More...

Jessica Allodola is a newly successful teen author who has managed to create an intricate fantasy world of vampires and witches, which helps distract her from her distaste at her oh-so-normal high school life. But what Jessica doesn't realise is that the publication of her book Tiger, Tiger has actually brought her to the attention of some real life vampires. It turns out Jessica's fantasy world is all to real, and there are some within it who will kill to keep their secrets.

I have one big complaint about this book: it should be longer.

I enjoyed In The Forests Of The Night, but I definitely liked this one better. The plot instantly grabbed my attention, making me not want to put it down. I probably would've read it in one sitting if I didn't have to take care of my mom. All of that, and the fact that it's a small book, made it an easy day read.
