I think I feel a little dirty after reading this! That's not to say I didn't enjoy it...it was just a little...unexpected. Lora Leigh is a naughty NAUGHTY writer who can sometimes really hit the spot with me, but other times she shocks me and leaves me a little speechless.

I can only conclude by saying that I have already bought the next two in the series...make what you will of that!

Lora Leigh's first book in the Feline Breeds series was one hot, orgasmic, shuddering, adjective filled romance. While some parts had me rolling my eyeballs, I still liked it. The beginning parts of the book had me practically panting and there were shivers running up and down my spine, as well as other naughty parts. I loved how Callan tried to pass himself off as just a man but when his lion side came roaring out, it was scorching! He finds this need to dominate and possess Merinus and when his barb emerges for the first time, it was seriously weird and damned hot at the same time. You'll have to read it to find out what I mean. And for those who like to know, there was no menage in this story. This was my second Breed book (I've read Megans Mark) and I can't wait to read more.(less)

So many people have raved about the Breeds series and Lora Leigh's writing in general that I finally had to try it out. In many ways, I can certainly see why fans enjoy these so much. I thought the premise was very creative and unique, something I've never seen in a romance novel before. I kept thinking as I read it that this is the stuff that great sci-fi movies are made of. It definitely held my attention, but I found myself wishing the author would tell me more about the Breeds and their back...more So many people have raved about the Breeds series and Lora Leigh's writing in general that I finally had to try it out. In many ways, I can certainly see why fans enjoy these so much. I thought the premise was very creative and unique, something I've never seen in a romance novel before. I kept thinking as I read it that this is the stuff that great sci-fi movies are made of. It definitely held my attention, but I found myself wishing the author would tell me more about the Breeds and their back-stories. I guess maybe that will be covered more in the sequels. Even though I really liked the ideas that the plot was built upon, I had mixed feelings about some other aspects. This was only my second read of an erotic novel, the first having been fairly tame by comparison, and although I went into it with my eyes wide open as to the content and wasn't shocked by anything I read, I think I was still caught off guard a bit by the raw, edgy intensity in the sex scenes. There didn't seem to be much tenderness or what I would call heart-stopping romance to be found, and when some of these types of emotions started to surface, it seemed all too brief. That said though, I wasn't offended by anything I read and did not find anything out of context for the storyline. It was really just more a matter of personal preference.

I thought that Callan and Merinus were interesting characters, but I can't say that I really related to either one. I think they were both just a little too alpha for my taste. I felt like these two spent way to much time trying to dominate each other and not enough time just trying to work together to find solutions to the dangerous situation they were in. I like my alpha males, but they also have to have a gentler side (like the brothers of the BDB). Callan just seemed to be on testosterone overload almost all the time. Merinus was also too stubborn and dominant for me. In my opinion her character just wasn't fully fleshed out. I felt like I knew and understood Callan pretty well, but I realized after finishing the book that I never knew much anything of a personal nature about Merinus. I also had a hard time buying into their falling in love. One minute they were lusting after each other like two animals in heat (which they basically were) and the next she was declaring her love out of the blue with him following not long after. This just didn't work well for me. In spite of my criticisms though, I honestly think that Lora Leigh is a good writer, although the editing on the book could have used a little more work. The intriguing cast of secondary characters and the open-ended epilogue have peaked my interest suffieciently to make me want to continue the series to see where this riveting story leads.

This book was better than I'd expected. I really liked the story around the Breeds "creation" - it was a bit out there sometimes but, hey, it's PNR so not everything has to make complete sense, right? LOL

As for the very steamy sex scenes, the barb thing was too weird for me, but I somehow managed to "erase" it from my mind... I think.

- is quite possibly the most horrible, degradable word to describe the female anatomy in the english language. I refuse to use the word. So you can imagine my jaw drop when I stumble across the word in almost every other paragraph in this book.

I really wanted to like this series. But it is not for me. I need something more than sex to like a book. It was like reading the same thing over and over again. The things that were happening felt like added just to have something more than sex in it.

I'm a big fan of Lora Leigh's books but this particular series was at first difficult to get into.
I first read this book last year and didn't quite like it, maybe because it was distanced from the usual plot line that I usually read.

After reading some other books in this series, and finding them absolutely fantastatic, I've gone back to this one for a new perspective on Callans Lyons and Merinus story.

Tempting The Beast is H.O.T.

Callon Lyons, the hero, is indeed "uber" Alpha (his genes were spliced with a lion, of course he's alpha,) and I was hooked from the beginning scene.

Merinus, the heroine, is an excellent match for Callon's overbearing ways, and finds ways of asserting her independence with a man who needs to be dominant. Tempting the Beast is more like a short story that serves to introduce the reader to the breed community. Tempting the Beast is more like a short story that serves to introduce the reader to the breed community. Human, infused with DNA from predators of the world, Breeds were created to serve as secret operatives, assassins and killing machines. The hero in this first book, Callan Lyons, is one of these genetic experiments and one of the initial six lion Breeds we meet fighting for their freedom.

I can’t help myself; I judge a book first by the hero. And Callan Lyons is a master alpha hero. You can actually hear him roar through the pages. After his Pride escapes the Council labs where they were held in captivity, Callan leads their Pride to secretly settle in the Kentucky Mountains, hiding from rumors of their existence. He is smart, strong and determined.

Then along comes Merinus – also smart, strong and determined - who feels a pull towards Callan since the moment she first sees his photo. The moment they meet and touch for the first time, the pull Merinus feels turns into a burning lust that neither she nor Callan can resist. They are thrown into a frenzy which locks them in a battle of sexual heat from which there is no escape but to mate. It was hotter than hot, especially how Callan tries to pass himself off as a common man but can’t keep his inner lion from roaring out with his mate. His lion DNA demands that he dominate and possess Merinus; and when his barb (yep, you know what I mean, girls!) emerges for the first time, it was weird and hot at the same time.

I can’t help myself; I need to feel the love to love the book. For the Breeds, this “mating frenzy” is a chemical and emotional reaction that consumes them, not permitting them to refuse their connection to their mate. There is no doubt that though the force that brought Callan and Merinus together is the mating frenzy, Leigh diligently shows us that their connection is solidly love. And what woman wouldn't want a mate devoted forevermore, loving, and certain of his fidelity? It’s every woman's ultimate fantasy. (Or maybe it’s just mine?!)

Because Callan and Merinus are the first of the Breeds to experience the mating frenzy, they turn to the Council scientist who has helped Callan through the years to understand the DNA complications in their bodies. They discover that this evolving science of the Breeds might just save their Pride and bring Callan the family and sense of normalcy he has craved. When Leigh unveils Callan’s dream of a family, it makes this alpha male more tender.

I can’t help myself; I want drama, mystery and suspense. And this book delivers it all. While in the throes of the mating frenzy, the Pride comes under attack and Callan and his pride are forced to run for their lives. A betrayal within their own Pride brings the Council back into their lives and puts Merinus in danger as well. Callan's lion DNA comes roaring to the surface at this threat to his mate – his fierce protectiveness is all-consuming.

With the Council on their trail and attempting to uncover the deception that divulged their secrets, Callan has to use his lion’s strength to save them all. His choices will change his Pride’s life in ways they never imagined possible. His choices also set Breeds on the path to their future. The book does a solid job of setting the stage for the entire series, both by providing a foundation for the series and by snagging the interest of the reader to continue on to the next book.

Now, don’t eat them all at once. If ever there were calories in books, Lora Leigh’s delicious Breed series would be high in the calorie count.

So obviously this is erotica, and I realize erotica is pretty subjective and hard to grade. But to me, this was just bad.

The premise was actually somewhat promising. Callan is one of several genetically manipulated humans--he has lion DNA in his genome--who are all part of some top secret highly unethical experiment. Merinus is a journalist who is eager to expose what was done to Callan and his fellow "Breeds", and requires his cooperation. They meet, sparks fly in a big way, and we find out tha...more So obviously this is erotica, and I realize erotica is pretty subjective and hard to grade. But to me, this was just bad.

The premise was actually somewhat promising. Callan is one of several genetically manipulated humans--he has lion DNA in his genome--who are all part of some top secret highly unethical experiment. Merinus is a journalist who is eager to expose what was done to Callan and his fellow "Breeds", and requires his cooperation. They meet, sparks fly in a big way, and we find out that they have some sort of intense biological connection. As in, they are in heat and absolutely must have sex, lots of sex, or they suffer painful consequences.

I may have actually been able to ignore the very contrived nature of the plot and all the hokey science fiction, had the characters been likeable. But they are not. Merinus is the worst--she is absolutely too stupid to live. She's understandably upset at being forced into a sexual relationship with Callan. But she uses it as an excuse for the stupidest decisions possible. She gets mad and blames him, though it's not his fault. She lashes out at those trying to help her. She runs away. She gets angry at Callan for killing rapists who would have killed him. She insists that she's tough and un-girly, but her toughest action in her moment of desperation is to call her big brother for help. And Callan isn't much better. He instantly falls into the overly possessive caveman routine so common to this sub-genre of romance. He's arrogant and sexist. While he says he admires Merinus' tough act, he continuously says things along the lines of "her brothers should have trained her better" and other things that demonstrate an utter lack of respect. This is all justified by saying that it's his nature, he can't help it, this is how all men would be were it not for that pesky feminism keeping them in check.

As stated above the plot is contrived entirely to get the main couple to boink a lot. In erotica, that's to be expected. I know a lot of women like the whole fated mate concept--you see it in Christine Feehan, J.R Ward, Kresley Cole, and Eileen Wilks. I don't have a problem with it if it's handled well. By that I mean, if it isn't used as a substitute for real emotional relationship building and depth of feeling that is only gained with time. Well, this book doesn't have much relationship building outside of the sex, so that was a problem for me.

Also, the plot is kind of...gross. There's a doctor and several assistants helping to figure out what's going on with Callan and Merinus. And the research process involves a lot of swabbing and sample taking before and after they have sex. And the doctor comes up with some kind of birth control, but just as soon figures out that it probably won't work long term. This medical/science drama really took me out of the sexy moments and were just plain creepy.

I was told by people who have gone ahead and read this entire series that this isn't the best book to judge by. I may attempt book two at some point to see if it improves, but probably not soon. I'm giving this book 1.5 stars. (less)

This is the first Lora Leigh book that I read and I was pleasantly surprised by Tempting the Beast. Merinus is on the hunt for a story and Callan is it, Callan is a man with Feline DNA and Merinus thinks that it is time for him to come out to the world. Perché sono una pazza masochista, ecco perché. Mi piace chiudere un libro e pensare 'avevo ragione!', mi piace chiuderlo e sogghignare schifata e sapere di non aver fatto parte della schiera di voci che hanno preteso questa serie. Orgogliosa, quasi.
La Leigh, santa donna, scrive erotico quindi fino ad un certo punto ti aspetti ogni cosa. Quello che non ha gestito bene, per quanto mi riguarda, è l'unione animale/sesso. Ora, sappiamo che le bestiole hanno abitudini, comportamenti e apparati genitali (in parte) diversi dai nostri. La difficoltà di gestire un personaggio maschile che è un mutante leone presenta dei problemi sostanziali: l'aggressività, prima di tutto, gestita senza risultati agghiaccianti (dopo tutto la Leigh scrive solo di uomini alpha/dominanti/aggressivi) ha giustificato decentemente Callan e il suo modo di fare estremo. Il fatto che si imponga senza motivo apparente, che obblighi Merinus e il resto del suo branco a fare quello che vuole lo si può collegare a questo elemento. Maschio dominante, domina. Well, duh! Fin lì ci arriva anche una talpa.
Passiamo poi all'aspetto sessuale. E qui mi potrei sbizzarrire.
Sta' povera ragazza di Merinus sviluppa una vera ossessione per Callan già prima di incontrarlo, quindi quando lo vede da i numeri. Praticamente i suoi ormoni partono per la tangente e passa tutto il tempo del libro - e intendo tutto - a pensare a quanto vorrebbe fare COSE con Callan. Poi si scopre che sono in calore, in fase accoppiamento estremo, con tanto di crampi dolorosissimi, liquidi vaginali che scorrono a fiumi, un pene che rimane nello stesso stato per giorni e giorni (e ancora non capisco come la mancanza di sangue al cervello non abbia portato danni irreversibili) e pagine e pagine di amplessi.
Va bene, in un erotico il sesso c'è sempre e in quantità industriali, ma ad un certo punto basta! Lo sappiamo che siete in calore, abbiamo capito che la pulsione è forte ma abbiate pietà!
Eppure no, la Leigh continua imperterrita nella sua descrizione di carni umide (mi rifiuto di pensare al terribile aggettivo 'fradice') peni mutanti, con quelle disgustose appendici che si muovono e si aggrappano - potrei vomitare. Che cavolo di bisogno c'era di ripetere continuamente che a questo spuntano delle cose dal pisello? Dillo una volta e basta, per pietà!
A quel punto ho continuato per puro masochismo. Callan e Merinus sono due perfetti imbecilli, senza profondità, senza niente a parte l'arrapamento. Inutili i personaggi secondari e inesistente la trama.
Sono sicura al 100% che questa serie non occuperà più, mai più, tempo e spazio. Da cancellare. SUBITO.(less)

Um...well...what to say...

The most you can give a book here is five stars so I've gotten to the point I give each star for a specific reason...or don't give it in some cases.

The first star that this book earned is the idea/plot behind it, which I loved. Secret group of people doing DNA experimentation leads to a new species human/animal hybrids, who escape and try to live hidden away but can't quite shake the bad guys. The first star that this book earned is the idea/plot behind it, which I loved. It's just a interesting idea and with the way this book ended makes me wonder what's going to happen next in the big picture. So basically this book earned it's plot star!

The second star I give is for the writing itself, if I can read it without wincing or wanting to tell the writer there was a better way of saying what they said then the book gets it's star. This book almost didn't get this star due to some of the language used that I find a tad unfavorable but after thinking about it other than the authors choice in certain words I can't complain about the writing it self so this book earned it's second star.

The third star I give is for how much I enjoyed the book over all. At the end of this book I wasn't sad or disappointed in it, in fact I plan to read the next book in the series (as I'm hopeful that the next book I'll like more than this one, I see a lot of promise in this series) so over all this book was enjoyed and earned it's third star.

The fourth star is for the characters, and this is where the book is a touch troublesome for me. I loved the idea and feel to a number of characters, I even feel some love for the characters I have a problem with. See the lead female Merinus (interesting name which I love btw)starts out as this headstrong woman that has something to prove, which for me can be sometimes be annoying, depending on how the writer decides to portray them, but I thought I was going to like Merinus. See she had a bunch of older brothers and father that are a bit...caveman-ish and I just had a good feeling. Sadly that feeling got screwed with a few times in the story, first she's strong and then she's helpless and weak then she kind of gets a little whiny and then she kind if gets to be a bit of a tease...and just over all Merinus's personality kept changing it seemed and it just got a bit too much for me, but like I said I still walked away liking her. Then there was the lead man Callan (again love the name) he's a alpha type male from the begining but then his animal instict kicks in and while I can see him becoming more dominant...I think there was a better way for him to be written than didn't make him into a bit of a donkey's behind. And lastly (trying not to give spoilers) there was that one Pride member that you may get a instant gut reaction to like I did... that one was just to predictable to me, and left me wondering how the characters in the books couldn't see the problems that I was seeing. So over all I do like even love the characters in this book but I think they could have been improved easily, so no fourth star :(

The fifth star is all about sex. For me if you give me a book where all the sex happens "behind the curtains" and is only hinted at I feel a bit let down as if they book was missing something and that's why many books miss out on the sex star for me. But this book is one of those rare times it's just TOO MUCH...actually I can't think of another book off the top of my head that I can say had too much sex in it lol. I'm one of those people that can handle a lot when it comes the book sex, I don't blink at dirty talk, down and dirty sex just makes me grin, kinks may arch my eyebrow but over all sex isn't a problem for me but WOW this book...just WOW. When I'm done with a book and think "I could have done without a few bouts of sex and done with a bit more of the story" I know there's just too much sex. Over all the sex is well written, my only problems with the sex itself is a few words - I could have done without a few of the C U N T S, once or twice is enough to be a little dirty and arousing but much more than that gets you to the point you feel nasty and a bit humiliated and that just doesn't do it for me. Also the use of the word vagina was a bit too often, like the other word once or twice would have been enough, using it more makes it seem a bit too cynical if you say it too much. So in the end this book didn't get the sex star the over use of those two words and the rare fact there was just too much sex and not enough story.(less)

In this book, Marinus, the daughter in family of people who are trying to help them, falls for the leader Callans Lyons. First thought here was that she must have been watching Thundercats when she thought of the names. Marinus meets up with Callons and it’s instant attraction for both parties, so must so that Marinus goes into heat.( yes I said heat) Even though they won’t admit they truly have feelings for each other they have to mate or face the unbelievable amount of pain that occurs when lust goes into overdrive. At some points in the story Marinus is so out of control that it’s mentioned several times how her juices flow down her legs abundantly. That was hard to write but I feel you should be warned. Did I mention he has a barb on the end of his penis that comes out at completion to help ensure that his penis can’t leave her vagina and therefore increasing the odds of a successful pregnancy? No? Well that’s just part of this stories charm. For this story, and the following one as well, a successful pregnancy is the only way that this uncontrollable need to mate can stop.
The book has a lot of sex so if you’re looking for a book with that it’s got it in spades. I just don’t see how she is going to come up with anything new because the 2nd book is pretty much the same but with different characters. I saw she has over 20 books in the series so I can’t imagine that she has been able to stay to that script but I again I am off to find another book to read rather than continue further with this series.

То наистина добре написани любовните сцени, толкова подробно, че почти не оставят нищо за фантазията (което може да е и плюс и минус, зависи кой чете), но след третата (хайде, нека кажем четвъртата) еротична сцена (от 10-на страници) другото се оказа с копи-пейст писано... а сюжета, по който ми потекоха лигите, се оказа събран в 10-15 % от книгата (ако има и толкова).
И какво излезе? Уж яки еротични сцени, пък с копи-пейст писани, а страхотната идея, от която тръгва сюжета, и тя претупана!

Много... незадоволително се почувствах.
Можеше да си кажат издателите, че за порно иде реч :(
И все пак, идеята за генномодифицираните хора и мястото им в свят като нашия звучи толкова яко....то заради тази идея е и втората звездичка. Уви, жалко. А можеше да стане страхотен трилър ако беше обърнато съотношението сюжет-порно...(less)

I'll start off with the good I suppose.
While this book had a bit more character interaction than actual plot movement, I loved the dynamic between the main characters Callan and Merinus. At first I was kind of put off at the idea that she had fallen so quickly and senselessly into this "mating frenzy" but then ofcourse, it was an animalistic need and those kinds of things rarely happen over grand periods of time. I'll start off with the good I suppose.
While this book had a bit more character interaction than actual plot movement, I loved the dynamic between the main characters Callan and Merinus. At first I was kind of put off at the idea that she had fallen so quickly and senselessly into this "mating frenzy" but then ofcourse, it was an animalistic need and those kinds of things rarely happen over grand periods of time. On the negative side of things, I wish I knew more about what exactly the council was, a bit more world building on that part would have helped a bit. As far as the pace at which the two main characters feel in love, I found it believable. Granted they went into it knowing a large amount about each other and then were over taken by this great amount of attraction and need, it seemed that they had a natural like progression into deeper emotions.

Spoilers Ahead, beware.
The sex. The sex in this book was stewed to perfection if you ask me, the perfect balance between human reaction and the animal need the author tried to portray. I will say, i thought the scene where she lost her virginity would have made more mention of the fact that, well, she lost her virginity.
The shower scene. Oh, how I've grown to prize shower scenes and the intimacy of washing one another. I enjoyed that scene in this book as it marked a change the way the characters looked at each others.
The conception scene, O MY GOD. Best scene in the book hands down, ofcourse I loved it when he reveals the way he felt about it. OFcourse I loved it when he described how perfect and cherished he wanted the moment to be and ofcourse, the sex itself was great.

I will say, the meeting between Kane and Callan left something to be desired, I expected so much more to happen with that scene. It had pretty much been built up since the beginning of the book and when it finally happens, one word from Merinus and its all settled? That was so unbeleivable it was also laughable.

Also, the "big reveals" in the book werent really big or revealing at all. The brother who tried to kill your mate, then attacked you, before jetting off mere minutes before an enemy hoard embarked upon your impossible to find fortress. Then he turns out to be the one who set them on your trail, BIG surprise there (this is of course said sarcastically, of course the traitor is a traitor. duh) And the hole part with Kane, man. I wanted that to be so much more than it was. I was happy that it wasnt the first time anyone had survive mating but really? It was obvious Kane had mated Sherra the moment he repeated her name over the phone. And the fact that more wasnt made of it instead of trying to hold out on details like it was a big secret really really really really irked me.

All in ALL. Merinus and CAllans relationship was fun to watch and left me wanting more, but the main plot as well as subplots were greatly under developed and left so much to be desired.

Would rate this a 3 if that damned barb wasnt such a turn on.

I am very disappointed with this. the language is distasteful. The characters are as deep as a teaspoon. The story line is pretty much non existent. It isn't that I don't like the sex scenes....but by the time I was halfway through...no not even....maybe a quarter of the way through I was so bored with the whole thing. As the old saying goes quality over quantity... and this book has bombed on quality. Some sexy novels really make you catch your breath but I found myself only reading further for...more

For the first 30% of the book she seems to be weak, stupid and has an unrealistic sense of what the world is really like. Then all of the sudden she grows a backbone and becomes wreckless in her attempt to get away from Callan -- whom she is attracted to, but she hates having her freedom curtailed so the only thing to do is escape.

The mating heat between them calls for a ton of sexual "fun" -- a little too much in my opinion. I skipped over several of these scenes as they didn't really differ from one another except for position, location, or how hard and fast they were. The author is decent at writing sex scenes, but as another reviewer stated it was a bit weird to read about all the cream and juices coming out of her. At one point, I actually paused to wonder if I should be concerned for her.

A short while after skipping a scene I read that Callan had a barb on his penis that would break any condom he tried to wear.

Yeah talk about a convenient excuse. "Baby, I can't wear a condom. I've got a barbed dick that won't let me pull out and it breaks the condom!" Convenient, yet extremely creepy at the same time. I don't think I would like it very much if someone stuck a barbed penis inside me.

The plot was interesting, but it was all fixed a little too abruptly. Not sure if I want to continue on with the series or not. The next one looks like it has the same stupid/weak human female paired with a shape shifting alpha male who thinks she can't walk outside without him.(less)

This story has definite potential, i don't mind the sex at all but reading it I couldn't shake the feeling that it has been narrated by a gynecologist from hell.

Every few pages i had to refrain myself from having a mad dash for the sanitizing wipes to clean my e-reader. Schon auf den ersten Seiten fiel mir die ungewöhnliche Namenswahl der Protagonisten auf. So ist die Heldin mit dem Namen "Merinus" bedacht und auch unser Löwenmann hat einen ungewöhnlichen Namen. Er heißt "Callan". Beides sind endlich einmal Namen die der Leser nicht oft zu Geschicht bekommt. Ich selber habe beide noch nicht gehört. Aber damit hören die kleinen Besonderheiten natürlich nicht schon auf:
So ist die Heldin eine nicht auf den Mund gefallene Schwester von sieben Brüdern. "Ach, herrje!", hatte ich gleich gedacht. "Die hat's bestimmt nicht einfach." Aber es hat ihr eine gewisse Schlagfertigkeit verliehen, die sie bei dem dominanten Alpha-Löwenmann Callan auch gut gebrauchen kann und der arme muss doch glatt ein paar Vergleiche mit dem "König der Löwen" in Kauf nehmen. Aber das nimmt er nicht ohne knurren hin. Und knurren, liebe LeserInnen, kann unser sexy, ungebändigte Callan Lyons wirklich ausgezeichnet. Es verleiht ihm vor allem seine Wildheit.

Da es sich hierbei um einen erotischen Roman handelt geht es natürlich auch sehr heiß her. Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass es manch einem zu viel des Guten wäre, aber ich war soweit zufrieden. Vor allem da der Schwerpunkt so gelegt wurde, dass eine weniger leidenschaftliche Begegnung der beiden meiner Meinung nach ausgeschlossen ist.
Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass es mich ein wenig gestört hat, dass anfangs zwar noch alles sehr ausführlich und Schritt für Schritt, Gedanke für Gedanke geschah (das Vorspiel und der Akt selbst) es am Ende aber nurnoch schlicht umrissen wurde. Für mich klingt das so wie: "Ja, der Leser weiß ja jetzt wie's bei denen zur Sache geht." Und für mich als Leser wirkt die Vereinigung dann doch etwas oberflächlich und teilweise ein bisschen leidenschaftslos.

Zum erotischen Bereich des Buches habe ich noch eine Sache die mich am Anfang sehr gestört hat. Merinus wird von noch nie gekannter sexueller Lust auf Callan getrieben und doch will sie es im Grunde nicht - natürlich ist es schwer zu verstehen und es kann einem Angst machen und genau das tut es bei unserer Heldin - und auf der anderen Seite steht Callan, der erfahrene, wilde Löwenmann. Er zügelt seine Leidenschaft keinesfalls und Merinus ist sich manchmal einfach nicht sicher ob sie diesen Sex mit ihm wirklich will, aber sie muss und mir gab das auf den ersten Seiten dann ein bisschen das Gefühl einer willenlos genommenen Frau - also ein bisschen wie Vergewaltigung. Es ist schwer zu umschreiben, denn es ist keine Vergewaltigung aber mir kam die Grundstimmung zweimal benahe genau so bei mir an.

Natürlich geht es in diesem Buch nicht nur um heißen Sex. So hat Callan mit seinem größten Feind zu Kämpfen, dem Council, den Männern die geholfen haben ihn zu erschaffen, und er will dabei natürlich seine Familie beschützen. Die Hybriden seines Rudels, den Breeds, werden nur grob umrissen. Natürlich bekommen sie ihre "Auftritte", aber im Grunde weiß der Leser nichts weiter über sie. Sie bleiben sehr durchsichtig.
Einzig Sherra bekommt mehr Struktur als es darum geht, dass sie mit einem Teil ihrer Vergangenheit konfrontiert wird. Und DAS, liebe LeserInnen, war ein wirklich interessanter Part von dem ich glatt mehr hätte lesen wollen! Aber man kann ja nicht gleich alles haben.

Alles in allem ein sehr gelungener Auftakt der Breeds-Serie. Ich persönlich freue mich schon jetzt auf mehr und hoffe auch mehr zu lesende Seiten als im ersten Band, denn die Breeds haben durchaus Suchtfaktor. Humorvoll, heiß und leidenschaftlich mit einem extremen Spritzer Testosteron! Das ist, wenn "das Tier im Manne" eine ganz neue Bedeutung bekommt. (less)
