This really felt like a transition novel, more filler than anything. The book before was pretty action-packed and all kinds of things happened. This one was just kind of blah. It really feels like things are getting stretched out and the main storyline was boring.
Here's what happens in a nutshell, practically spoiler-free:
Morgan gets in trouble with bad guys
Morgan has to ask for Adam's help reluctantly
Morgan gets mad at Adam because he tells her she needs help and a bodyguard

Overall, Speak of the Devil does some major development on a lot of the characters as Black gives us more glimpses into Morgan and her inner circle than ever before. Quite honestly, this isn’t going to be one of those novels that keeps your attention because of the insane action, but instead because you get to learn more about a favorite character and actually watch her grow emotionally. I know this cover tends to get a lot of flak for being “trampy”, but Speak of the Devil has such an incredibl...more
Fourth in the Morgan Kingsley urban fantasy romance series taking place in Philadelphia. The primary focus of the series is finding a way to keep Lugh, King of the Demons, safe from a coup attempt by his brother, Dougal.
The Story
In Speak of the Devil, Lugh's problem takes a backseat to Morgan's. In an engineered frame-up by the girlfriend of a demon/host, Morgan exorcises a demon from the young Maguire, which triggers a lawsuit against Morgan. That leads to her suspension by the U.S. Exorcism Bo...more

Morgan is the most powerful exorcist on the planet, but things have gone sour since she's been illegally hosting the king of demons in an effort to keep his enemies from finding him; in the long run, saving humanity.
Insurance has yet to pay out on her house fire. She's being sued by the father of a demon host the court ordered her to have exorcised, because the host ended up brain dead. She's broke since being suspended by the exorcism board pending the outcome of the lawsuit and investigation....more

This is the 4th book in the Morgan Kingsley series, and as you've probably guessed: I loved it!
Morgan's another tough chick that I love to read about. She happens to be an exorcist, but wait, she's also carrying a demon within her, who happens to be a very important guy. It's been a great ride, to watch Morgan grow and accept what she's become. She struggled with Lugh a lot in the beginning, and while it's still not a picnic, at least they have a good rapport now and work with each other.

Jenna Black writes a good book. I've been with the Morgan Kingsley series since the beginning, and while I thought the first and the fourth were weaker than the second and third for various reasons, I do enjoy the world she's created and the characters in them. Well, most of the characters.
Well paced and with a nice blend of continuity and ingenuity, Speak of the Devil is a nice read. There's quite a bit going wrong in Morgan's life right now, and not all of it self-induced. She's got a murder...more

I tried to read the first book in this series once long ago. The covers are catchy, and the blurbs sound interesting. But I got a couple chapters in to that one and gave and gave up. I vaguely remember that book as having a jumpy plot with unrealistic and not very likable characters, and way too much attention to irrelevant detail. Picked this one up (again because of the cover) without realizing it was the same author/series. This time I made it through the book. Ms. Black seems to have matured...more
I think the author is dragging the series out. That's the thing about urban fantasy series. Publishers/readers get so caught up in characters and the world that we want more, more, more, and authors continue to give us more, more, more until... we don't want more, which isn't a good thing.
This book felt like filler to me. I'm intrigued by the overall story arch of this series. I want to see what happens to Lugh. I want him to fight this big battle over the throne or at least take on Dougal and...more

Morgan Kingsley is back in Jenna Black's latest release "Speak of the Devil". This series is one of the most original paranormals I've read. Black's demons are different from any other you'll read about and their interactions with humans will leave you wondering the next time you run into that certain someone at work (or maybe that's just me).

Again, I read one of these books in only a matter of hours. They're just too freakin' addicting.
Brian actually wised up and ditched Morgan. She rallied and got him back. Now to see if she's willing to continue to work on her act and keep him.
Saul got himself a girlfriend and it looks like some estrogen has finally been introduced into the council. I knew she would stick around the moment Saul took an interest in her. Now Raphael just needs himself a lover. He's all odd man out.

Poor Morgan. in a short period of time she has had a heck of a lot of bad things happen to her. This time around it is a demon with a grudge the size of texas.
when it comes to brian sometimes i want to smack Morgan. she doesn't give that man an inch then wonders why he leaves. on the other hand with all that is going on one would think he would be a little more forgiving as well. just a little. once we got to the last few pages i deiced all of that fighting was perfectly ok to due to the great...more

Conclusion: Things you need to know about this book.
1. Morgan has her exorcism license suspended, gets sued, and in the end, it gets dropped.
2. Morgan cries and whines her way throughout the book after having lost Brian because she can't trust anyone. ::sigh::
3. Morgan tries to use S&M to lure Brian back into her good graces and it appears to work...who didn't see that coming?
4. Lugh's taking over of Morgans body makes her deathy sick where she wallows in self pity the entire time. (Kind of...more

Morgan Kingsley, excorist extrodinaire, is always in trouble. She flies by the seat of her pants from one disaster to another. Hosting the King of demons in her body, and keeping it a secret, is no picnic. In this book Morgan has been suspended from her job as an exorcist pending a law suit. After an exorcism left Jordan Maguire Jr. a vegetable, his father is sueing Morgan.

Book 4 out of 5 in the Morgan Kingsley series.
Brian wants Morgan to get a lawer because on top of all of her problems, like hosting the Demon King and seemingly always the target of some crazy demon assassin, she is being sued by a father who lost his son (who became brain dead after Morgon exorcised his abusive illegal demon).
On e of the things I really liked about this book was that we got to learn a lot more about Saul. Adam asks Morgan to let Saul move in with her because Saul staying with...more

This is a great series. The world is a fun one. So much like ours only demons can possess people legally. Learning more about that and the process is fun. But the best part about this series is Morgan. She is a great character. What I like about her is that she is very flawed, knows it about herself, and while maybe doesn't like it, she accepts it. This book certainly shows her flaws, her biggest her trust issues and keeping people at arm's length. Watching her manuver around her world with demo...more
Morgan is in trouble again, she is being sued by the family of a client she exorcised after he was left brain dead and she has been suspended from her job while the case is ongoing. She has no money and no income and doesn't know how she can afford to pay for a lawyer to defend her. To top it all off her stalker's behaviour has started to escalate, starting with a severed human hand in the mail, but what else are they capable of?

Book 4 in a contemporary urban fantasy series set in Philly where demon possessions are commonplace, and often welcome. Morgan Kingsley, the heroine, is an exorcist who is possessed by king of the demons, but she has a genetic anomaly that allows her to stay in control of her body most of the time despite the possession. It's a really interesting twist on urban fantasy that I haven't found in any other series, and I read a lot in this genre.

Oh, Morgan.
I think this book frustrated me in that it was more of a transition into the meat of the actual intended direction of the series. But while there was a lot happening to set up the next part, I felt like nothing actually happened in this book. It was like... lead up, lead up, lead up, and mystery, mystery, mystery and suddenly the mystery was solved and the big ending battle was, well, rather pathetic. While it would have been visually pleasing if it were on the big screen, I was bored...more

I'm still digging this series. Morgan's having a crappy week. She's been suspended by the Exorcism Board. She's fighting a lawsuit. And now someone is sending her severed body parts in the mail. Fun? Not so much. Good thing she knows a few good demons that don't mind kicking butt and taking names. You know, I'm not 100% behind the whole Morgan/Brian thing. Mostly because I really can't see why he puts up with so much shit from her. She lies to him constantly and keeps him out of the loop every o...more
When Morgan tasered Saul so she could go alone to the lawyers office I was about ready to throw the book against the wall. I don't mind an unlikeable heroine, I don't mind a flawed heroine, but Morgan is just beyond bitchy and stupid. She treats everyone around her like crap. In this book I think she was doing stupid things because the author wouldn't have had a story without that behavior. So basically, the whole plot of this book revolved around Morgan acting like an idiot (or at least the plo...more
I strongly suggest you read the previous books (Devil Inside, The Devil You Know and The Devil's Due) in order before reading this installment.
In the cruel world that Jenna Black has built, humans can legally register and volunteer to host demons. Some great upsides for humans, when possessed they become nearly indestructible, and are able to achieve and contribute many great things to humanity. However, some downsides to human possession are they cease control of decision making and motor funct...more

I liked this instalment. Morgan is still a bit of pain, but she is starting to learn that the world is not simply black and white. The story is basically the same as the previous ones; demons want to kill Morgan.
She performs an exorcist which leaves the human host a vegetable. Is this normal? of course it is, because some Demons don't care enough about their human hosts. The hosts family don't see it this way and sue her. Alongside this, someone is sending her death threats. All in all it takes...more

3.5 really, like all of the series. Quite good but not quite a 4 for me. Maybe it's strange considering the BDSM elements (pretty mild) but they're too ordinary for 4s. The woman is the same complaining, smart-mouth, can't-trust-anyone woman I've read about many times before. I can barely remember her name. But I still like her. And the men are hot. And the demon posession and war elements are interesting, but take second place to the woman's issues in what feels like an attempt to drag out the...more
Morgan Kingsley is back in the fourth book of the Morgan Kingsley series, Speak of the Devil. In this one, she's being sued for the death of one of her clients. Her license is suspended and she's broke. On top of all that, she's being stalked by a psycho demon out to make her life a living hell.
I really like this series. The one was no exception to that. I only have two small complaints. 1). The recapping is a bit much. It felt like there were pages and pages of recapping from past books. It was...more

Book 4... yes, Morgan and her issues. Morgan is suspended from her job, she is being sued, her insurance money is held up...what else can go wrong. Someone is leaving phone threats, sends her a severed hand and smashes her car. Throughout all of this she messes up her relationship with Brian... again.

Speak of the Devil is the fourth installment in the Morgan Kingsly series. In Speak of the Devil we're back to the world of Morgan, a freelance exorcist, and semi-unwilling host to Lugh, who's the demon king.
The story starts shortly after the end of the previous book, The Devil's Due. She's paying the price for an exorcism gone wrong. The victim’s family is suing her, she's suspended from exorcising and her life as she knows it, is in chaos. Her relationship is Brian was already still shaky fro...more

The life isn’t easy for Morgan. Someone want’s to ruin her life and this enemy almost successed. And with Bryan, the man she love, isn’t it very good, too. But she find a way with her friends to handle it all. It’s a very good story and very fast, you don’t want to lay the book down. It was amazing how good this book was to read.

“If you've gone along with Morgan's plan enough to get this note, then I presume you're planning to go through with it. Let me give you some friendly advice about the toys in this case. First, if you don't know what it is, don't even think about using it. Second, if you don't know how to use it properly, don't even think about using it. (Hint: You don't know how to use the crop, the flogger, or the paddle, even if you think you do.) Third make sure Morgan always has a way to signal she wants to stop, and respect the signal if she gives it. And last but not least, if you ignore my advice, I'm going to come over there personally and kick your ass! Don't think because I'm gay I can't do it. Respect and treasure the power she's putting in your hands, and don't abuse it. (Dominic)”
