The scale of the adventure grows gradually, and the bit of writing right at the end is quite fantastic. The book is also relatively thin, with less than 200 pages, and so you should give it a try. The plot is straightforward, and you could read it in the summary section, but knowing anything more than that would ruin the reading experience. (less)

I won't say too much about the story, I can only say that I cant put this book down since I opened it. I read it halfway on a train ride from Surabaya to Jogjakarta then I had to force myself to stop. Knowing that I need reading material for my way home.

During my stay in Jogjakarta, I can't help but steal some time to read more and more and finally stop when I realize I had read almost 3/4 of the book. I really need a reading material on my ride home ^^;

The mystery really absorb me, and I love

Yep. My very first review on Goodreads, The Leap! :)

Well, where should I begin...? The start of this story was really really great that it successfully got my full attention till I finished this book in less than one day, although I must admit that it was actually beyond my expectation--but not in a really good way. I had finished at least half of Bartimaeus trilogy before starting to read this book, and The Leap was something that I didn't expect would come from the author. It was a lot darker,

Max has an accident and drowns, leaving behind his best friend Charlie (Charlotte), who seems unable to let him go. At least, this is what the adults believe. Charlie knows better though. She saw the creatures that pulled Max down and away, and she has been touched by them as well. She knows that Max is still alive, and she embarks on a search both in her waking hours and in her dreams to find him...

The Leap is a book thriving from atmosphere. While reading you might feel that there is a certain

It was a beautiful book. I thought it was a short story, but it had so much of meaning in it.
Its a really nice story, a wonderful plot as well. At first, the title let me down, but as I read on, i realized its not a bad book at all.
Once again, Jonathan Stroud amazes us all!!! :)

It's a depressing book with plots that require a lot of patience. Paling tidak, endingnya tidak menggantung. Untungnya James berhasil 'menarik' Charlie sebelum dia jatuh ke lubang.

Jonathan Stroud's The Leap is nothing like his Bartimaeus trilogy or the on-going Lockwood & Co series. It was strange to venture into something a bit darker, a bit scarier, a bit Stephen King-like coming from the pen of Jonathan Stroud. There is a bit of fantasy, an element of magical realism, as seen in Bridge to Terabithia or even Guillermo del Toro's movie Pan's Labyrinth. It lacks the brightness I have seen in other Stroud novels, but it is captivating all the same like other Stroud nov ...more

Perkenalkan, seorang anak perempuan bernama Charlie.

1. Labelnya yang bertuliskan Fiksi Fantasi;
2. Jonathan Stroud; dan
3. Covernya yang saya suka. Banget.

Festival Raya, juggler, akrobat, pertunjukan burlesque, karnaval, egrang, dll. Membaca awal buku ini jujur saya agak kecewa. "Hah, kenapa nih kok universenya nggak ada fantasi-fantasinya?" "Hah kok gaya penulisannya kayak gini?" Lalu saya teringat... Bahwa bagian awal Amulet of Samarkand pun sempa

Losing a friend is one of the greatest traumas a person can have, especially if they somehow feel responsible for the death.
The novel tells the story of a young girl, Charlie (short for Charlotte), who witnesses the drowning death of her best friend, Max. She tries to save him, but is stopped in her rescue attempt by other-worldly forces. When Charlie tells her story, nobody believes her but think she is suffering delusions due to her recent trauma.

In the meantime, Charlie dreams of Max and is

The Leap memang beda dengan seri Bartimaeus. Deskripsinya semacam terlalu ...more

Buku yang cukup tipis, tapi terlalu tebal buat ide semacam The Leap. Tapi ...more

It is so different from Bartimaeus', so I don't expect it to be so gloomy. It was published in 2001 (before Bartimaeus' trilogy), and I supposed this book was aimed for kids, although I think it's too frightening for them (heck, even I had goosebumps when I read this book at night). It was a very detailed description of a girl (Charlie) who didn't accept the death of her friend (Max) who was drowned in the pond. Or I thought so, at the beginning. She was obsessed with his death, and went ...more

This book was simply not as great as the Bartimaeus Trilogy. I admit that I came in expecting great things from the book, cuz of how much I just LOVED the Bartimaeus books...but as I got in, I saw that it wouldn't be so. Fair enough, I thought. Nobody's perfect. I read this book with a wide-open mind, really trying to love it, because of how much I love Jonathan Stroud--but I just couldn't. This book was terrible. Hmmm... bedaa banget dengan barti *ya iyalah*
ceritanya muram
dunia mimpinya serem, suram, dunia setelah kematian sepertinya

Unfortunately, this was my least favourite book of 2014. It's been a good year, but every once in a while a book hasn't quite struck the right chord, and believe me, The Leap had a ton of wrong notes (yay for extended metaphors!).

The first 80 pages are utterly yawn. It is all so slow-moving and like, nothing happens. I was considering putting it down, I cared so little about the fate of these two-dimensional characters. None of them had any personality and the 'fantasy' plotline was absolutely r

Mimpi-
