I'd heard for years that I should be drinking more water, but nobody could tell me why this was so. At the same time I found it extremely difficult to increase my intake of water for apparently no good reason.

Finally, here is a book that explains why we should drink more water.

Dr B's explanation, which constitutes the important message of this book, is that many common, serious ailments are caused by simple dehydration.

When Dr B was incarcerated in prison in Iran fo...more

I didn't love the conspiratorial tone of the book, and I thought that it was not very well written. It seemed disjointed and he jumped around a lot as he was trying to explain something. At times, the medical/technical jargon was so much, that I just put it down or skimmed it and moved on. I wanted to give it 2 or 3 stars for these things. I almost didn't give it a chance because of how it was written, but it was recommended by a specialist we have been working with and I wanted to read it t...more

The good thing about this book is that it gets you to think differently about water and how much of it you drink each day. It gets you to consider the difference between a well-hydrated joint and a dehydrated joint.

The not-so-good thing about this book is that he really doesn't bother to cite any research and pretty much just explains his view along with testimonials from people with various problems who are doing better because they are drinking water.

The really dumb thing ...more

This book is a must-read resource that clearly explains a theory worthy of immediate consideration, in which we no longer regard the body as being regulated by SOLUTES (like minerals and vitamins). Instead, water, the life sustaining SOLVENT, regulates the functions of all systems first. This understanding of the cause of many pains and dis-eases would treat symptoms first as a simple local thirst by recommending to drink at least 2 L of water a day for 2 days. This simple prerequisite to pha...more

Dr. Batmanghelidj claims that many, many common illnesses and conditions (ulcers, rheumatoid arthritis, various other aches and pains) are caused by chronic dehydration. I got this book based on a recommendation by a friend to try to end my increasing migraine headaches. After following the advice in this book for a month, I had only 2 days of incipient migraines, and the headaches did not develop into the usual 3 days of constant pain. However, I also was trying out a new medicine that purports...more

We're all dehydrated & need to drink more water.

He states artifical sweeteners can actually trigger us to eat more...walking along with hydration helps tryptophan get to the brain & that tryptophan's properties are essential to prevent cancer cell development in the body - plus - it helps maintain a well-regulated balance of all the body's functions

This book was a reminder that drinking lots of water, exercising/walking, and healthy eating habits (lentils & green beans ...more

I've been trying to motivate myself to drink enough water recently, so figured a book about dehydration's effect on your body might do the trick. It certainly helped. I'll have to do more research about all of this, but if what this doctor says is true, drinking ample water (and cutting out excessive caffeine, alcohol, sodas and other drinks) can help keep us clear of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, allergies, asthma, body aches and pains, etc.

Seems to help quite a bit with a...more

I found this to be very informative. It really makes sense to me that our bodies are chronically dehydrated. I began increasing my water intake and immediately my frequent heart burn was gone. I've also noticed that I don't feel the need to snack all afternoon like I used to, and I don't seem to eat as much at meals. I drink 1-2 glasses of water first thing in the morning and I find I can wake up and get moving easier, I don't feel sluggish or groggy for the first hour or two of the day anym...more

Recommends it for: Anyone with a health problem.
Dr. Batmanghelidj, like Linus Pauling, says that we don't drink more than 10% of the water we need and that most diseases come from the body's scream for hydration. I think that he is probably correct but then the question arises, what kind of water? Filtered, RO, Distilled, Rain Water, bottled water or tap water? This is allot like saying, "Define Water!"

Did you know that drinking a soda will actually dehydrate rather than hydrate your body?
The facts about how important water really is to our bodies are included in this book. Who knew that a headache, charlie horse, and even dry skin are some symptoms of dehydration? This book was transformational for me. A must read for anybody who cares for a body.

I love books that talk about the natural way to heal your body....we rely to much on medications and doctors and forget the simplest of remedies. This is the second time I've read this book and I loved it! Water really is a natural healer, too many of us are dehydrated - and either ignore the body's signals or confuse them for disease symptoms.

Interesting read, even if I don't have any of the specific ailments that the book covers. The best thing I'll take away from the book is the authors recommendation "the bests time to drink water are one glass one half hour before taking food and a similar amount two and a half hours after a meal... Two more glasses should be taken around the heaviest meal or before going to bed".
I found the chapter dyspeptic pain most interesting. I appreciated the explanation of why we sho...more

The book has an important message about how essential water is for our health. This has helped me a lot in trying to stay healthy, but the book is a bit repetitive and wordy, and I couldn't read all of it. I skipped around to some parts that pertained to me most. Overall, a helpful book.

Totally awesome. This book and the other "water" books by the same author should be required reading for everyone, but especially people at or over 50. If we drank more water we wouldn't be in as much pain. I'm convinced of it.

Thank you Fereydoon for writing these books.

For those who like to the holistic, natural approach to health; I think this book is a great insight for water and what it can cure and how much we really lack it. It opened my eyes about the health care industry and why they push prescriptions so much.

Amazingly, I have learned so much from this book even though I haven't read a page yet! A cousin and a mentor have shared what they learned in this book and it has helped me in many ways already. I hope to actually get my hands on it and glean even more.

This book was very technical for me. I recommend it to anyone. If you don't like technical skim across the medical terms. I found the advise to drink more water made sense. We are of this Earth and both are made mostly of water. It made sense that dehydration could be the cause of my ailments. I hate taking medication because the side effects are often worse or as bad as the sickness. I'm definetly drinking more water. I'm actually starting to like it.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!! my grandpa gave it to my mom to pass around to each of us grandchildren and the summer after 9th grade i picked it up as something to read on the bus. now up until this book i had chronic asthma, couldnt run, couldnt be around smokers, even the heat would set off an asthma attack i followed the books advice increased my intake of water and sodium [though my vegetarian diet already assisted in that] and ive been asthma free ever since, i swear to god. ive not th...more

Perhaps conspiratorial, but a lot of truth, nonetheless. Drinking enough water (a LOT more than most people think is enough) can help prevent many, many ills.

Book makes a lot of sense. Wish there were some more books and studies on the water and the body.

Useful information about waters importance. More useful if you don't have issues with absorption.

This is a life altering book! I always knew about drinking sufficient water for you body AND activity level. Dr.Batmanghelidj takes it to a whole new level! I have started adding Celtic salt (raw, unprocessed, grey, almost sweet tasting) salt to my water now as recommended in the book. Not only has this improved my hydration, it seems to be good for my skin, helps regulate histamine levels too! Who knew?
Alli
An interesting read, with a couple interesting ideas. Although there are few more fierce proponents of water-drinking than myself, I thought a few of Mr. Batmanghelidj's ideas to be based on not quite substantial data. Still, makes me glad that I drink hardly anything but water.......
Devin
This was one of the best books I have ever read. It's all about the benefits of water and how it has the power to heal a surprising number of illnesses. I always intend to re-read it, need to do that soon!
