I first heard this book in 5th grade and the song that went with it stuck with me until now. Betty's preschool teacher reads it to her kids and teaches them the song. Janet's preschool class is doing it now and her month is the month of October. She LOVES the song and book. I just barely ordered the book on Amazon. I really needed to have it in my house. The pictures are darling the the song by Carol King is darling and memorable.

I wanted to eat this book with a side of chicken soup with rice and a flirtini after I finished it.

Paddle once

This was one of my favorites for a solid two years between the age of four and six. One of my earliest memories is walking around the house singing the song from the book with my mom. I would get very excited when we got to my birthday month.

I just picked this up to read because I have a cd with Carol King singing it. It's a catchy tune, and I wanted to share it with my kids. Plus, its just a fun little collection of poems. Hooray for Maurice Sendak!

This is the first book I remember reading from school! Each month we would read another chapter from it, and sing along with it on tape, adding onto the previous chapters. I need to read it again soon!

This is one of the best books ever -- every month has a rhyme about how it's good to eat chicken soup with rice at that time of year.
Sipping once, sipping twice, sipping chicken soup with rice.

Oh damn, now I have got the carole king tune to it in my head and it won't leave.
Fabulous as a sung book, book, or dipped in soup as a cracker (needs salt).

Although I'd rate it higher for the giggles and childhood memories. It's wonderfully dated.
