Motor Mouth (Alex Barnaby #2)
(view spoiler)[They were so careful when stealing the hauler, making a note of using the gloves and chopping up the cars to make it look like a car theft, that I just knew they were going to get caught somehow. But even after mentioning the dog wasn't there I didn't realize they had left him in the hauler until they said it. My ...more
Amusing Dog - in this one it's a St. Bernard, Beans. (Bob the retriever was in Hot Six)

From this position, she observes some odd behaviour from Gobbles, the spotter for another team, just before a crash that allows a less talented driver to win and her driver, Hooker, to come in second. She suspects that the team is cheating but she can’t prove i ...more
This was just okay. The hijinks were kind of unbeliveable, but it is a work of fiction. But I do think the ...more
The further adventures of BArney and Hooker, once again in trouble and once again in Miami. The details about NASCAR tend to bore me, but I did enjoy some of the interplay amongst characters. Discussions on "the man in the boat" and such were amusing. I did have to wonder ...more

This started out a smidge slow, but quickly escalated into one of the funniest things I've ever listened to. I'm a long haul trucker, and I listened to this in two shifts. I laughed so often I worried I would wake my husband, and I had tears trying to keep my chuckles quiet.
It is wholly unbelievable (view spoiler)[that they get away with it all (hide spoiler)], but I didn't care.
A very fun, dare I say hysterical, listen. I don't know how it would transfer to read th ...more
"A woman with a taste for speed and a talent for breaking the rules, Barney also knows a little too much about cheating. First there was Hooker and that salesclerk. Now she's convinced one of the competitors is up to no good on the track. Snooping to find evidence, Hooker and Barney "borrow" a NASCAR hauler. Turns out, the hauler is carrying two race cars and a dead guy. It looks like Barney and Hooker are facing multiple counts of grand theft auto and homicide.
So buckle up as Barney, H ...more
Barney (Alex) and NASCAR guy (Sam) are at it again. Barney is a spotter for Sam's team. They're not together because he was doing a sales clerk, but she's still working with him. Another spotter (Gobbles) gets in a tight spot and then, well, in typical Evanovich fashion - everything falls apart. Barney and Sam hijack a car hauler of a competitor, rescue Gobbles, chop up two cars, find someth ...more
Alex Barnaby and NASCAR guy Sam Hooker are back solving a murder or two within the racing community. All very technical and sometimes way beyond my understanding, but not to the point where I was completely lost. I honestly believe if Janet Evanovich would give ...more
Alexandra Barnaby is NASCAR driver Sam Hooker's raceday spotter, his eye-in-the-sky, telling Hooker when to pass and when to get off the gas. From her vantage point high above the grandstand she's also seeing things going on in the infield that will change her life. Things that will lead to a stolen racecar hauler, a kidnapped Saint Bernard, a bizarre murder, some restl ...more
Unfortunately, two things are probably skewing this rating: 1) I read this book before Metro Girl so I missed some of the set up and 2) I read it while in the middle of a Stephanie Plum marathon... That being said the book ...more
Miami is still freakin' humid. The nights are even hotter. And there's a body on ice. And that's just the beginning of this adrenaline-rush of a hot-wired ride from phenomenal #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

I felt like the characters didn't really resolve their cheating issue, and doesn't a strong female lead deserve that? I feel like the bad guys threaten a lot but nothing scary really happens to the character so it's hard to feel scared for her. I just wasn't pulled into this series.
While I put this in my "better than tv" shelf, I'm not sure that it really was better than watching TV. It seemed empty-headed and silly to me, with improbable situations and superficial characters.
I think reading almost anything is better than watching most of the stuff on TV these days, but this book still didn't measure up. I don't watch contemporary comedy shows like "How I Met Your Mother" or "The New Adventures of Old Christine," so I can only compare this book to the ad clips for these s...more
+ The scenes with Felicia, Rosa and Berg (the dog) are hilarious.
+ Everytime you think you know what is going to happen, something else happens. Or you are right, but then someting else is going wrong again.
+ When it's getting more tensive, suddenly there is a great joke, when you least expect it. The characters and scenes come really alive while reading. ...more

One thing I did not particularly enjoy was the male dialogue as voiced by the reader of this audio book. They seemed slightly caricature-ish.
