I discovered author Amelia Grey several years ago and quickly found myself searching out her backlist to enjoy her light touch of humor and emotionally touching reads. "A Duke to Die For" is the start of her new 'Rogue's Dynasty' series from SourceBooks Casablanca. This publisher is one I'm coming to admire for their strong list of romance authors from several different genres so I guess I wasn't really surprised to see Amelia Grey is now one of their number. Grey's heroines aren't weak, but the ...more
A DUKE TO DIE FOR is the first in Amelia Grey’s Rogues’ Dynasty books. A DUKE TO DIE FOR is about Duke Blakewell and Henrietta Tweed, while the next two will be about Blackwell’s two cousins (Lord Raceworth and Lord Morgangale).

Great fun sums up this story quite well. Despite his initial bluster, Blakewell isn’t quite as bad as his reputation makes him out to be. At least he takes his role as Duke quite seriously (even if he is a tad absentminded), so maybe it's more he hasn’t had time to keep u

Nothing like a cute little historical romance now and again. But I have found out that I have the most stupid pet peeve. I grew up with Cartland and other "nice" writers of romance. So now every time some one has sex, I shake my head and tell her in a stern voice, what improver behavior for a young lady. You will never get married now! Sometimes it works for me, but here I just shook my head. I mean that is so silly, if this had taken place 100 years later I would have just shouted , you go girl ...more
Henrietta has gone through five guardians and she's worried about the sixth, the Duke of Blackwell. Unfortunately, the Duke has no idea that she's arriving. Lucian is pretty happy with his life. He has responsibilities, sure, but he's been ignoring them pretty well as he continues his debauchery while trying to avoid the young ladies being forced into his path. His father has recently died and Lucian is astonished to realize that this means that... he is indeed this nubile young woman's guardian ...more
Kecewa ma novel ini.. udah ga nyambung ma judul trus cerita lebay n terkesan dipaksakan *IMO*

Klo baca judul pst lgs terpikir klo ni Duke sangat2 special mpe layak 'mempertaruhkan nyawa' buat mendapatkannya ^--^ ternyata..

si hero, Duke of Blakewell, menurut gw agak2 munafik, pura2 mo menikahkan Henrietta ma nobleman padahal dia jg suka sih napa ga dr awal aja dia menawarkan pernikahan ma Henrietta gw jg ga ngerti..

nahh.. Henrietta lain lg.. gw pikir ni cewe, sesuai deskripsi, tipe2 yg tegas, ma

When I choose to read a romance novel it means I'm in the mood for adventure, laughter, tears or anything that might relate to "fun" and pure entertainment. Sadly this book misses all the marks for me and most of all it's lacking in emotional growth. The only good parts were the depictions of the surroundings and the time feeling was quite appropriate, but still it's not enough. At the end you're asking yourself why in the world these two people have fallen for each other. IMHO the aim of any ro ...more
Sejak beli terjemahannya ampe sekarang ga selesai2 bacanya hehehe... Meski biasa2 aja tap ...more

This book had a slight twist on the ward falling in love with her guardian. She believes that she has a curse that causes all of her guardians to die. Other than that, there is nothing new or exciting about this book. It might have been saved by the writing itself, but instead is mired in too many lulls that make you think that Grey was running out of ways to move the story along. I really had to force myself to finish it.
Blake whom is a duke learns he has a ward whom not only is not a young child but a beautiful young women but also believes she is cursed to forever loose her gaurdians. lorna has gone thru 5 gaurdians since her parents death at young age is now found herself at the doors steps of her lat appointed gaurdian. she is surprised to learn how young and handsome her new gaurdian is. Will Lorna finallyy find a family she never had and will Blake give up his rakish ways?

Tapi
The main thing in the story that caught my attention the most was “the curse.” Curses intruge me, not that I think they are positive things or that I would wish one upon someone because I sure wouldn’t want one bestowed upon me but, they just make the story more mysterious and I like that. Curses are one of those kinds of things where you are not sure what exactly will happen or when, it’s basically a mystery.

I really enjoyed how Amelia had Lord Chesterfield’s (a character) wise quotes throughou

Blake becomes a Duke and inherits a large fortune after his father’s accidental death just 2 years back. But still his rakish ways continue. He is more interested in card parties, frolicking with women and horse racing than he is in managing his estate and settling down.

Into this happy-go-lucky life of the Duke’s, enters a 19 year old charming, beautiful and intelligent Henrietta. She claims his father was the last guardian on a list her father had prepared before his death. And as Duke’s father

This is my first Amelia Grey, and for the most part I enjoyed it. There are a couple of little things that didn’t quite work for me, but they also didn’t take away too much from the enjoyment of the story. Overall, it’s a good start to a fun series.

Henrietta has come to Lucien Blakewell because he’s the last name on her list of guardians she’s to have until her 21st birthday. All others before him have perished in one way or another and Henrietta is convinced she’s cursed. So her goal is talk to
I love a romance stories from the Regency period. The passion that comes with the romance when it’s supposed to be “forbidden” since women are supposed to be innocent and men who entice are considered rakes and rogues. The stolen kisses and intimate touches when nobody seems to be around brings more heat to the story. The thing I like about romance is that even though we all know it ends the same where the boy gets the girl, the story in between is what makes it different. The curse that seems t ...more

Henrietta, a young lady, is sweet, innocent, intelligent, bold, frank (or I must say not afraid to let her mind out) and a naïve girl who has a list of guardians to take care of her after her parents’ death. She was 7 when she lost both her mother and father; a tragic incident which still haunts and has left a mark on her. Anyway, all her guardians fall into an unexpected and unnatural death which leaves her to only believe that there is curse on everyone who will come forward to take her respon ...more

With this book Amelia Grey has written a romance with a great sense of fun and humor. I read many different genres of romance books and enjoy coming back to this style of romance. I will be mixing more of Amelia Grey's books into my reading list. On my Nook the book listed 271 pages.

Miss Henrietta Tweed arrives on the doorstep of the home of the Duke of Blakewell and explains that she is his ward.

She's quite willing to be reasonable, she's almost twenty, the Duke could sign over her inheritance and she will go off on her own.

But the Duke decides he does want to be her guardian and then it turns out to be so much more.

A real charmer, great character development.

This was a sweet novel of love at first sight. When Henrietta's parents were killed in carriage accident, she was sent to live with several different guardians in succession as each guardian would die not long after she lived with them. Fearing that she was cursed, she did not want anything to happen to her latest guardian, The Duke of Blakewell to whom she was immediately attracted. The Duke feels the attraction as well and although he feels she is too young for him, he cannot abide other men s ...more

The first book in the Rogues Series. I loved this entire series. Each book has its own wonderful hero and heroine. Henrietta's belief in a curse is an interesting twist. The usual guardian/ward love affair, this one well done.

I wouldn't pay for it again, but it was okay. Little slow to start then quick to resolve. The hea was abrupt.
Fun, light read. Enjoyable for when you want to be entertained by a romance.

Predictable and not much of a story arc to keep it interesting.
Characters sound very American and modern, with the occasional "ole chap" thrown in as window-dressing. Lots of "damnations" (which just strengthens the American sound to me). I've gotten about 2/3 through, and it's too much like work reading this - it's light but not amusing, and kind of serious but not moving. My Sony reader had a little meltdown today, and I've lost my place. I'm going to take that as the gods of reading telling me to release myself from the chore that is this book.
Delightful story and characters. I loved the three cousins, Blake, Race and Morgan. Gibby was my favorite character. I especially like the humor throughout the story and strong family bond between three cousins. I would have liked to see a little more drama and conflict between Blake and Henrietta. I would have liked to see Blake more humbled, but I did like that he was willing to do whatever was necessary to relieve Henrietta's worries.

I've given up on this one. It's by no means bad (grammar, spelling, structure were all good), but reading it felt like a chore to me--lots of telling and not much showing. I have several other Amelia Grey books, and I'll give one of them a try down the road a bit. Even some of my very favorite authors have written books I don't like, and perhaps I'll like one of the others.
The heroine was annoying. The side characters were more interesting than the leads. The plot felt like something I read before, only poorly written.
