A shortened version of my book review of Born To Rock from Verbicide issue #12 (Fall 2004):

After picking through the hundreds of interviews he’s conducted, Taylor has compiled Born To Rock, a “best of” anthology of his 17 favorite interviews, sandwiched by three enjoyable essays.

First and foremost, even though it’s at the end of the book (starting on page 313), I want to mention Taylor’s essay “On Interviewing: From Beer Drinking Goats to Popes.” It may not be the focus or selling point of this

Right off the bat: I am a music book nerd. If the subject matter has anything to do with bands, punk rock, or anything of that ilk, chances are you're probably going to get at least four stars out of me.

Having said that, this book is a slam dunk for me, it's a collection of interviews and writings from a punk rock journalist that I respect the hell out of. He interviews bands that I listen to, and he really gets it. As someone whose band is going through interviews with various outlets right no

This was pretty good. I love the author's attitude and his ideas about punk rock and DIY and especially about old jaded punks and how lame they are. Unfortunately I wasn't really familiar with any of the bands included so I was less connected to the interviews. I like that he interviewed, artists, writers and talked about the zines in general and I actually thought his introduction (about himself) was the best part.

written by the co-founder/editor of razorcake. very entertaining interviews and commentary from guys that have been in the scene for a while and show no signs of slowing down. including: dillinger four, nofx, hot water music, tiltwheel.
