The PMS Murder by Laura Levine is a fun read with a few out-loud laughs & an ending that actually surprised me (I'm not to easy to surprise).

Jaine Austen-yes, the joke is there, again & again-is a free-lance writer, battling danishes with the help of her cat, Prozac (the book is full of arch jokes that sometimes work & sometimes grate). Her best friend is busy working & getting married and Jaine (who has successfully solved previous mysteries) meets a new best-friend who introduc...more

Like all the other books in this series, this was just a fun mystery novel. Most mysteries are kind of stuffy and dark, but these are fun. The main character is entertaining. She eats a bit to much, she lets her cat rule her life, she has guy troubles, there's something about her that I think every woman can relate too. It's a fast read, and something to enjoy when you want to read something that you don't have to focus to much attention on. It's like chick lit for mysteries.
I'm going to read a...more

Jaine Austen (not the author, a run-of-the-mill freelance writer and in her spare time, murder detective. She always seems to be at the wrong place at the right time (if there is such a thing) and this time, she is at a party with her PMS (not menstruation) group. She just joined and found some good friends. One of them ate some nutty guacamole and the host of the party said a nasty two-word phrase right before the death of the member. Jaine can't believe her new group could be capable of murder...more

This book is a cozy murder mystery that was rather a let-down for me. The Author used humor and well, however, it grew old as the story progressed. I became tired of the food addiction and self-deprecating humor as a constant. I was not amused.

As for the murder, it was predictable and so was the culprit. I have a couple more of the series yet to read, but, am sort of reluctant to begin them.

Levine has reined in a bit those repetitive jokes i previously mentioned and replaced them with new repetitive jokes of mind-reading the cat. I forgive all that because jokes that are besides those two are funny and self-deprecating humor is in my area of expertize, and even i couldn't come up with some of her awesome Bridget Jonesy episodes.

This is part of a silly mystery series in which the author is trying to be as funny as Janet Evanovich, and not quite making it. However, these are light, fun reads about a resume/copy writer named Jaine Austen who finds herself solving mysteries. And why not.

I picked this book up for levity and it served it's purpose. Kind of funny. The protagonist is a struggling technical writer and part time detective just trying to get by. The real author of the book threw in a couple of plugs for her previous books so I'm guessing the struggling part hits close to home. I liked the book though it probably helped that I had fairly low expectations to begin with.

I love, love, love this series, Laura Levine, makes me laugh out loud.
a great sense of humor, while realistic is still totally hilarious. I'm always on the look-out for the next Jaine Austen Mystery.. BTW I'm totally in love with Prozak, the cat.

Laura Levine has the best sense of humor and continues to make me laugh when reading her books. The mysteries are good but the characters are just that, characters. Jaine's parents are hoots and people you'd love to know. Another well done job!

Great fun and very witty. I have read a lot of Laura Levine's books and they are a hoot. I love the emails between Jaine and her parents. Hilarious! These are very enjoyable, quick reads with a protagonist you can't help but love.
Ruth
Funny even though she has a little too much about her cat! Maybe she got started when the other Cat mysteries were novel and doesn't know how to get out of it. I like these books even though I don't care for cats!
Mary Newcomb
Jaine Austen meets a fun group of women, or at least they are fun until one of them is murdered. She sorts it all out in her usual breakneck fashion with some interesting side adventures along the way.
Patty
When Jaine Austen meets another woman in the changing room at Bargain Barn she thinks she has found a kindred soul. Pam is someone who shares Jaine’s love of high calorie food, a few drinks, and doesn’t look like a super model in appearance conscious LA. Even better, Pam introduces Jaine to the PMS Club whose members are a fun group of women and one gay man. But with the murder of one member the group begins to fall apart. In trying to solve the crime, Jaine discovers that everyone had a reason...more

Good read. My dad picked it up for me from a yard sale and thought id like it. I put it on the shelf for a few months and then when i read it, i was surprised.
Sheryl
I really like this series and the character is hilarious but it's beginning to feel like each book is just a carbon copy of the one before it with the same jokes and everything. Just a tweak in the mystery so it's not the same exact book as the one before and that's all. The jokes were hilarious in the first book, still funny in the second, but by the 3rd, 4th, etc., they are starting to wear me down. Jaine's personal life needs to move forward in some way (and she needs to come up with some mor...more

Her books are down to earth & not typical murder mysteries but love them. they are fun & light reading! Love them all.

Though I'd grown a tad tired of the Jaine Austen formula, this one pleasantly surprised me. I wish that the "branching out and making new friends" plotline had extended; it would have made things more interesting for future reads, as it brought fresh new faces. I have to say, I'm tired out by the running gag of Prozac, the cat, "cleaning her genitals." Cats do clean other parts of their bodies, y'know.

Anyway, I fully expected to be bored, but this one did seem a slight variation on the formula....more

Still enjoying these books - this one moved nice and quickly, and felt less like it was written as a sitcom script.
Julie
These are such a fun read. And I wish I could let my guard down enough to eat like Jaine Austen eats!
Flowergirl
I find this series somewhat enjoyable, although the main character does get on my nerves a bit.
Rumeur
She's a better mystery writer than some of the well known one's and yet the stories are funny and very easily read. I enjoy this series so much that I'm now re-reading some until a new Jaine Austen mystery comes out
Kathy Lewis
Funny, light, interesting characters. I already bought another of them. LOL several times. Could have done with a little less chatter with Prozac but, really enjoyed it otherwise.
Kim
Very light & fluffy read. Fun & cute, but I probably won't read others in the series.
Kay.
i absolutely loved this book. and i think every girl should read it.. just saying.
Roberta
Light and fluffy. An easy, mindless read. Her parents' emails are a hoot!
Carol
I'm bummed that this is Laura's last book. Yes, it was still cheezy and predictable and I loved every word of it.
Tulsa
I knew who it was pretty much at the start. These are just getting a might bit too predictable.
Danyale
Laugh out load FUNNY!! I love the main character Jaine.
Rebecca
Fast, easy reading but very entertaining.
Sera Lewis
Entertaining enough, and a quick light read.
