"Truly Enchanted!"

Celia Fussle's father has passed away. In his will he states that Celia will inherit the Castle of Wolfenbach in the Black Forest if she marries the master of the castle. Celia can either accept these terms or live with her brother and his spoiled wife and be known as the spinster sister. She looks at her adventure to Germany as one of her many fairytales she studied with her father and sets out to claim her home. Celia arrives at the castle to find it in disrepair with gargoyl...more

I learned of this book from the Smart Bitches over at [http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com]. The review there was dead-on and I have thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It's a quick read with a great story line and a pair of unlikely lead characters. The gothic element is strong, but author Sandra Schwab does a great job introducing new, smart elements into a creaky old genre. The romance is steamy and believable. (The scene with the erotic playing cards is one to read again!) I've got about 20 pa...more

The HIGH point of this book was reading the descriptions of the area surrounding the castle, and being able to imagine vividly what it looked like, having traveled in that region of Germany before. (Though, of course the castle is fictional I'm sure.) This novel seems to be set about 1823(ish), though the precise year is never given, and yet at times the details seem to contradict for a later time period. Initially the heroine takes some time traveling from England to Germany, but later in the s...more

OK, here's what I remember about this one--read it a few years ago.

The prose is just lovely. I think that even if the story had stunk, I'd have given it at least three stars just because of the writing style and the fairytale references. I'd love to see more romance novels written elegantly like this. Also enjoyed the unusual setting, the Black Forest.

It's a Beauty and the Beast story, essentially, but I have to admit that having the brooding hero's parents living nearby mars the ambiance some....more

This book was not at all what I thought it would be. Well, I really had no idea what I was in for. I mostly picked this book out because of the cover and because it was set in early 1800s Germany. I was having a taste for the German culture. I had never heard of Sandra Schwab, so I was bound to be very critical when I opened to the first page. Also, it was marked as a 'Paranormal Romance', so this was another first for me.

It was a little slow to begin with, but my interest sparked about chapter...more

A short and sweet historical romance with a slightly magical twist and fairy tale atmosphere.

I have to say I absolutely loved this book! It is a very different type of paranormal romance, not what you would expect. Fenris is a very tortured soul and believes he does not deserve to be loved because of his past and what happened to him physically so, he pushes people away by being mean and cold-hearted. Celia believes in fairytales and believes that she can break through Fenris's stone-cold heart and bring out the true man inside. This book shows you that you don't have to be perfect or "...more

This is on my keeper shelf with its hints of Beauty and the Beast. Schwab has a talent of creating suspenseful Gothic settings and strong heroines. I will read whatever she offers with the barest amounts of scepticism.

Additionally, the sister-in-law with her mangled French in the very beginning cracked me up a lot. Really great stuff.

I really loved this book. It lived up to my expectations and alternated between mystery and romance nicely. The characters are well-developed and believable and Sandra describes both them and the scenery so well that I was easily pulled into the tale.

Sandra is a great author and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Refreshing. There and about a thousand too many romance novels set in Regency England, completely ignoring the gorgeous settings of other European countries. The dark German forest really adds a whole other dimension to the story.

Not much time for reading, but picked this up for some comic relief.

Bit of a hodge-podge, with anachronisms galore. Some promising bits, some annoying bits. Unusual to have a novel of this type set in the Black Forest, for what it's worth.

this was a totally random book i bought at a used bookstore. it was surprisingly good, YAY werewolves. the story line is not amazing, but the characters are.
Cassandra
the back description doesn't do the book justice. even if you don't like her first book (like i didn't), you'll love this one. Wonderfully written.
Kendra
Mystery and a grouchy man who the heroine has to marry, and does her best to bring out of his mood. Fun, fast read. A bit paranormal with the Legend of the Wolves and Castle.
Kara
An easy read. I liked the characters even if their world was pretty constrained. It is a sweet love story with some mystery.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it!
Joan
This was a great dark read, a nice change from the regular HR.
Kristin
The Castle of the Wolf was entertaining, but nothing special.
Nicole
The characters were absolutely brilliant! Loved it! :)

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is not my usual read but I couldn't put it down. It isn't even as graphic as the books I usually read yet I had a hard time coming up for air in Florida when I was so wrapped up in the lives of Cissy and Fenris in Germany. The only prob I had was the words they didn't translate into English. Then again, I think I have seen 'The Sound of Music' enough to get the gist. Definitely recommending this book to friends.
Laura
Very fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. The sexual tension was done very well IMO, at a certain point I literally wouldn't put it down (I rarely say that literally, I do a lot of reading in small increments).

I enjoyed this novel. It's one of the rare times it seems that romance flees from the English ton and the Scottish Highlands. I like how it seems somewhat like a fairy tale and Fenris was definitely a character that I could love along with the heroine. Tortured heroes are so attractive! I look forward to reading it again because no one ever thought to count the gargoyles!
Jennifer
I read a review of this on Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Books and kind of expected it to be better. Really, it was a cute, quick read, but I hated that the heroine said things like "bugbear." She wasn't a very well-drawn character and the stupid names like "bugbear" were nearly too much for me.
Janna
I liked the touch of fairytale to the story, and I liked the protagonists. But there was something missing, and I dont' think it was just the hero's leg:)

Sandra Schwab started writing her first novel when she was seven years old. Twenty-odd years later, telling stories is still her greatest passion, even though by now she has exchanged her pink heart-dotted fountain pen for a computer keyboard (black, no hearts). She lives in a suburb of Frankfurt on the Main, Germany, with a cat, a duck, a sewing maching, and altogether too many books.

She is curre...more
