There are a lot of insights of human life that I can learn from this amazing book...I love the way he wrote all of the stories which were contained of enchanting messages for anyone who read it, especially me. It helps me smile, wrinkle my eye brows whenever I didn't get the point yet of one story, helps me passing my day, even when I got stuck by the traffic jam.
In short, I must say that this book is loveable...and I love it.

Terrificante

Each Christmas, we have an exchange of gifts. The actual exchange of gifts take place during the annual Christmas party. Anyway, all employees were asked to create a *wish list*. The wish list contained all (or some) of the things that we would like to receive for Christmas. Last Christmas (2011), I was collecting Nicholas Sparks' books. This Christmas (2012), I was collecting Paulo Coelho books. So, naturally, I wrote down *Paulo Coelho books* on my wish list. To cut the story short, I received...more

Like the Flowing River is a collection of Paulo Coelho’s stories and articles which were published in different newspapers around the world.

Like the Flowing River is definitely one of Coelho’s best, for me. It contained his thoughts and reflections on different things—from the story of the pencil to a piece of bread that fell wrong side up. I’m amused at how he sees the Universe. How he comes up with various realizations out of the simplest things that happen in his life.

This proves that Paulo C...more

I sort of regret reading through this so fast – I wonder if it would be better to read a story a night, to contemplate the simple yet profound messages Coelho preaches in each one. As with his other works, he refers to one’s “Personal Legend” and “Warriors of Light” and discusses the language everyone can understand and the “Soul of the World.” Likewise, from “Self-Deception” and stories about self-doubt and comparing oneself to others, he writes about confidence and peace in the present moment...more

This is a book about author's experiences and the wisdom gained with them. Now he is trying to pass around the same wisdom to the readers..Book is nicely written without trying to be in the "right vs wrong" kind of tone. Messages are subtly put,one reason I could finish the book without feeling patronized.

Some of the stories touch you, some are just read and some stay. If this is your first philosophical novel you will love it..Otherwise very few stories present an original idea. I enjoyed it mor...more

Bagus! Bagus! Bagus!

Seperti biasa buku ini merupak...more

My friend told me to read this book about a year ago but I was never really interested in reading. I never found the right book to read. This summer I read a book for Paulo Coelho and I loved it. So I kept buying his books and reading them. His books are really different. They are all about life and how we choose our path. Some are all about love, destiny, and death. After I read most of his books I decided to start reading this book ''Like the Flowing River''. It made a great impact on the way...more

This is a great book of meditations large and small in the form of stories and true vignettes from the life of the author. I recommend keeping it on your nightstand and reading just one or two stories before you go to bed--you'll sleep well. If you are familiar with Coelho's works, you'll recognize the "warrior of the light" and the reference to "personal legends" (see The Alchemist). The collection is a testament to Coelho's expansive horizon (see The Valkyries: An Encounter with Angels) and wi...more

Before i start reading, one of my friends said that I showed finish first the other books of Paulo Coelho.
I've learned a lot. This book contains the stories and compilations of great experiences by the author and other people who entered his life.
The story of the pencil was so interesting and I've been reflecting throughout these days.
We are humans who aren't perfect at all, we are capable of committing mistakes and the story taught me to learn how to dwell with it. You have to correct what y...more

Oh how I wish I was Team Coelho. To be among those of superior spiritual understanding able to derive meaning in a solitary piece of coal... How much more fulfilling my mediocre life would be. Alas, I am not. The main reason is his supremely irritating way of addressing readers in the same way I imagine Sunday-school teachers address the natives on their missionary gap year. I could probably get past that sanctimoniousness if it wasn't combined with an ego of truly monumental proportions. Should...more

I read this book about two years ago. Yeah it's been a long time but I remember I liked it. I liked almost every little story. I was even ready to look for another book of Coelho, but unfortunately, I had no time. Unfortunately ... or not ... because a time after, I heard so bad reviews about Coelho's books that I didn't want to read more from this author. Of course I tried to start up with "The alchemist" but it didn't match. Maybe it was a bad timing, maybe my mind was made up .... anyway, I'l...more

I actually quite like it a lot, for starters. Well, it's not really an actual "book"---you know, with a main plot or or something, since it's merely a collection of short stories, but a must-read, nonetheless. It reminds me of a particular series of books I used to read when I was younger, written by a priest named Fr. Jerry Orbos, that are also filled with a lot of interesting/odd/funny short stories that turns out to actually mean something deeper or mean something inspirational. :)

I'm guessin...more

A collection of amazing short stories! I loved many of them and they are absolutely awesome. Some give some values and some are just written for the pleasure of reading. Some of the stories which I liked are The Dead Man who wore Pajamas, The Devil's Pool, The Story of a Pencil, etc. These are some of the stories which I like from the many I loved. Some stories make you laugh, some makes you think and some just makes you happily smile. :) I felt a kind of happy feeling after reading this book. I...more

The book consists of short stories and tales by Paulo Coelho. The stories are very uplifting (even if all are not happy and joyous) and spiritual and most are things that have happened to him on his journeys, or legends and tales he has heard from people he's met. Some are just thoughts and views that have been born in his mind triggered by everyday life or his surroundings.

As is typical to Coelho's writing style and personal beliefs, God keeps being mentioned but as Coelho's view on religion is...more

I have been searching for this book quite some time ago. When i finally found it with quite a cheap price, i bought it directly. I started to read it about a month ago, or so, and i just finished it today. I'm seriously liking this book, because i think, this book helped me to think more and learn more about life. Short stories can sometimes induce you more than one long one.

Like the flowing River contains short stories that Coelho have submitted to some papers (if i'm not mistaken) and had his...more

Meski hanya berupa penggalan kisahkisah singkat, tapi seperti biasa Coelho senantiasa menginspirasi.

Tapi jangan baca buku i...more

Like the flowing River was the book that introduced me to the amazing writing style of Mr. Coelho - this is actually one of his best. From the moment that I started reading this book, I totally love the simplicity of his writing. Too simple yet truly inspiring. I must say that he has collected the best stories in just one book. Well, actually, I'm a big fan of anthologies - the beauty of exploring different characters on different situation in just one book. Great isn't? Now, I'm not just a fan...more

True inspiration , but lots of it can cause you headache .. was inspired by many thoughts and stories in that book and as the poem in the start of the book , this book reflects the life of coelho and i do wish to live my life and reflect ... Like the flowing river.

Silent in night.
Be not afraid of dark.
If there are stars in the sky, reflect them back.
If there are clouds in the sky,
Remember,clouds,like river,are water,
So,gladly reflect them too,

“Lord, protect our decisions, because making Decision is a way of praying. Give us the courage after our doubts, to be able to choose between one road and another.
