A classic of the genre, to be sure. But more than that, a book both formative and prescriptive. I read this as a young teen, and I look back now on the turning of the final page as the moment when my adulthood was forged from the ashes of my youth. My heart cried out for young, tortured Drew; I wrote her a letter (sadly, never sent) that said, in effect: I will love you. I will remain at your side, tho' the wastrel, treacherous Hollywood wolves may lie in wait just outside your door. Allow me th...more

I first read this book when I was twelve years old. Yes, I still have it. In fact, I reread it about a year ago. It is still the crappiest autobiography I have ever read, but I can never throw it out. It is like the first tangible symbol of our media culture feeding off celebrities. Also, I like to read about Drew Barrymore getting high. It cracks me up.

I can't star-rate this book, it's outside the criteria. Because it very well may be crap, but I love it.
I read this book uncountable times when I was 13-14, reading about a life more glamorous and interesting and troubled than mine. The life I lived within this book was the closest I came to being a regular teenager.

I really liked this book. People used to compare my looks to the young Drew Barrymore which, even though her past was nothing to be jealous of, is still a compliment. Scary how young Hollywood kids get into drugs these days. Never would have guessed Drew Barrymore was no exception

Again, fascinated by celebrity. Parts of this were taken from her journal while she was in rehab. She was about 12 years old. Baffling. Sad. Intriguing. I own if anyone wants to borrow!

there was no reason to write this book. drew didn't even have interesting stories to tell, she "interviewed" while another woman put the notes together and wrote the bio (which still did not turn into any fruitful messages).
the normal working class girl would have taken these dirty experiences (like sexually pleasing her producer at aged 9) and turned them into something to fight for, fight towards. but what we have here is a prime example of the type of desensitized woman ...more

it's always interesting to hear someone's perspective no matter who it is. i always like to understand why people feel and think the way they do. it's interesting.
but this particular book is so repetitive that it's ridiculous. i love drew. i think she's great. but i think this book isn't very good literature. did anyone expect it to be? i didn't. but i also didn't expect it to be this bad...actually...maybe i did. but i was excited to read about drew mostly. either way. minor let do...more

Wow, did Drew Barrymore ever have problems! She wrote this book when she was just fourteen and had already been in rehab twice. It makes me respect her a little more, knowing what she overcame to get to where she is. And she's just so likeable and cute. When I first read the book, I couldn't believe a young girl could get into so much trouble, but now, with all the young women in the media for their misbehavior, this book seems to be some kind of warning.

It's hard to imagine that the cute little girl who played in the movie, ET, was drinking alcohol, using marijuana, and snorting cocaine. Unfortunately, it's a common pattern that we continue to see among Hollywood child actors (i.e., Lindsey Lohan). Hopefully, by writing this memoir, Drew Barrymore can influence other teenagers not to do drugs. I thought this was an inspiring book to read!
I read this book once in high school and once as an adult. I really loved it. Of course, Drew Barrymore is one of my favorite actresses :) It was amazing to read what she has been through. She made it through being a child star. She had a horrible experience, but has become quite a success after conquering her additions.

Okay, no laughing here...I picked it up in high school at the library when i coudln't find anything else..it's actually very sad how much she was left out and after reading it, you really come to admire Drew Barrymore as an actress and a person..she proves you don't have to turn into Britney Spears after childhood fame

I’m a huge Drew Barrymore fan, but this book was a very dull read. I understand that she wanted her fans to know all the things she endured, but seriously, she could have done a better job. Like maybe if a different person helped her write the book, it would have been better.

I have been a huge fan of Drew Barrymore for as long as I can remember. Her childhood and teenage years were unlike anything most people can imagine. To make it through all of that and become the incredible person she is now is amazing and inspirational.

I'm not a big biography fan, but reading this book in high school made me forever look at drugs, alcohol, and Drew Barrymore in a different way. I think this is a neat insight into the world she came from and I love still having it on my shelf.

I remember reading this book when I was in 9th grade, I picked it up at the library. It was a fast read,a very sad childhood, now as a mother you sit back and wonder who would do this to their own child? or better yet, watch it happen.

I loved reading this just because I have this thing with Ms. Barrymore! It's interesting to see the kinds of things that she's had to overcome. Most people would not have been able to come out on the top side of things the way that she has.

Very interesting! I have a lot more respect for Drew Barrymore and can really see how she grew up and turned her life around. Reading about her drug use was exhausting, and I was rooting for her the whole way.
i read this in jr. high when she was a bad girl. now i can't stand her, and even though i can't remember anything about the book, i feel bad for having read it at one time
