The Magic Tree House Series is great for children ages 9-12 years. In each book Mary Pope Osborne packed magic, history, and adventure as readers journey with protagonists Jack and Annie on exciting missions all over the world.

In book # 30, The Haunted Castle on Old Hallows Eve, Jack and Annie once again travel back in time to help save Camelot from danger. As “Master Librarians and Magicians of Everyday Magic,” Jack and Annie’s along with their friend Teddy must solve the mystery of ...more

Jack and Annie, with a young magician named Teddy, find the castle and discover that it is inhabited by four ghosts-a girl, twin boys, and a dog. The ghosts communicate to the three that the problem is the stolen diamond, that it must be retrieved, and that the Raven King has it. The children find and retrieve the diamond, revive the ghosts and their sleeping household, and give the Raven King what his heart most desires. I like this book becuse i enjoy books of mystery and suspence. throughou...more

Jack and Annie take a magical adventure to see Merlin and to help bring order to the castle of the duke and save the future of Camelot. This mission takes them through a forest and to a tunnel of fear. The magic of the sorcerers and woodsprites help after the ravens appear. Soon the castle has been put back to order, Jack, Annie and Teddy are on the way back. Soon the tree house will take them back to Frog Creek for Halloween night.

My daughter has read a few of these and is always te...more

This book is the second in the "Merlin Mission" series. It follows the first, with a magical trip to Camelot. Both this book and the one preceeding it diverge from her previous stories, by delving into the folklore and mythology that comes from Britain and other places, rather than actual historical events. Her stories are adventurous and exciting and we look forward to the next, but overall, I prefer her earlier stories.

In the thirtieth installment of Mary Pope Osborne's popular Magic Treehouse series, Merlin contacts Jack and Annie near Halloween, asking them to help him solve the mystery of a haunted castle. Castle is a fast paced, suspenseful read that will entertain young readers as they improve their reading skills. This slim volume would not prove to be intimidating to even the most nervous reader. Murdocca's abundant pen and ink illustrations will be comforting to children as they make their transition f...more

Dear readers, I read this book called Ish and this story is taking place in a Haunted castle at Halloween the castle is very scary from the outside there are vines like snakes hanging from trees there are are spiky branched trees you can hear the trees rustling and bats screeching and swooping over your heads. You can smell dead animals mostly dead rats and lizards.I would not want to visit this setting because I don't like bats and it is very stinky out there.I was surprised about this setting b...more

I decided I should read some of the books my six year old reads. I really should have her rate the book. It's a fun easy read kids book. It's #30 in the Magic Tree House series--first one I've read. I guess I need to go back and start with number 1. Fun mystery/adventure book for very young readers.

I read this with a group of my 2nd graders and they LOVED it! They have been reading others in the series because of this book. There are fantastic ideas for extension activities on Osborne's website. If your child likes this book, check out the site!

Andrew's book report fourth grade Mrs. Flanagan's class. He got 103%. We made the Raven King on the front cover out of feathers and a red sequence cape. Very cute. Tree House books are great for book reports.

I think this one will be fun to read, but my daughter insists it is just to scary; we've only read Chapter 1. So, back to library it will go. We'll have to see how she does with the other Merlin Missions - we've read Eve of the Emperor Penguin, but the rest might be emotionally difficult for a child who will only be 4 in July.

Ok, so, shortly after she wanted it to go back to the library, we changed our minds (or she did) and we read it. I like these ones, too, but I think the Merlin ...more

Magic, adventure, and friendship! A tale more of fantasy than facts, Osborne seems to be basing the Merlin Missions more on various literary traditions than historical happenings. It's a fun change of pace.

I would read a chapter of this with my offspring at bedtime & then she would stay up and keep reading more of it on her own, which is huge right now because she's an emerging independent reader.

I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!

Annie and Jack travel back in time to a haunted castle that has ghosts. But the ghosts are actually people. Read the book and find out how Jack and Annie save them and put the castle back in order!

It wasn't scary. Maybe just a little bit. But it didn't scare me. It just scared Jack and Annie. You have to read it to figure it out.
Chloe
I loved these books in like second or third grade. I can't remember to well what they were about but everybody read them back then.
Maggie
This book is kind of spooky at the beginning. It's kind of a ghost story, but it's fun just like all the other Magic Treehouse books.
Anna
They met real ghosts: a girl, two boys and a dog ghost. They got the diamond back so they turned back in to real people.
