My opinion - not her best work.

Savich, Sherlock and their son, Sean, are spending some family time at a cabin in the Poconos. On his way back from the market, Savich’s SUV blows a tire. Just as he’s done changing it, a woman comes running out of nowhere, not suitably dressed for the weather, screaming about a man in her house. His cell phone all of a sudden not working and unable to call for back-up, Savich goes with the woman back to her house. Making her wait in the living room, he searches th...more

Book number 9 in the FBI Thriller series and Savich and Sherlock are back yet again! A supreme court justice is murdered and Savich is in charge of the FBI investigation to find out who did it. Before he can solve this mystery, more people start dying. He's aided by, of course, his wife Agent sherlock, a new guy from the DC police, and the justice's stepdaughter. i was guessing the whole time. the DC police guy did seem a little naive, especially when it came to 'old justice's', very young-centr...more

This book...I bought a copy of it for a dollar the the library the other day, only to discover while looking through my book cabinet that I already owned it. That totally flabbergasted me, because reading the synopsis of the book in the library, it seemed so unfamiliar to me that I was sure I'd never read it before.

Apparently I was wrong.

As I reread the book over the weekend a few things did seem familiar, but mostly I'd forgotten the entire book.

I used to buy every Savich and Sherlock book as...more

meh, the same old plot, the same it was fate and love and we're meant to be together! Oyo! Disappointing, I thought the plot was weaker than usual and events that lead the investigation are unbelievable and ridiculous.

However, best quote in the book. Two of the main characters Ben (police officer) and Callie (reporter for the newspaper) are tracking a potential witness to the crime in D.C., January. The witness is visiting the Vietnam Memorial Wall. As they're walking to the wall "Callie looked...more

I was hoping for a good murder mystery and I didn't get one. The first thing that annoyed me was the reader's voice. I will NEVER read a book or listen to a book read by Sandra Burr ever again. Her voice is grating. The story just wasn't that interesting. I kept listening as I only have so many cassette books to listen to. They are getting harder to find because of CD's. I gather many of Coulter's stories center around Sherlock and Savich. The whole beginning of the story is unbelievable, and th...more

I forgot how much I enjoy reading Catherine Coulter's books. The FBI series follows the husband and wife team (Savich and Sherlock). Blow Out was a true page turner. Even though there is an element of supernatural/psychic. Savich gets a blow out tire, as he fixes the tire, a woman runs out from the woods screaming that someone is trying to kill her. He goes back to her home to find noone and then she disappeared. Quickly called back to DC, there was a murder in the Supreme Court. The amount of s...more

I've read other books in this series about Savich and Sherlock. I still like the main two characters. This was an ok to good book. The beginning starts with Savich meeting a ghost! That was just strange to have in the book. The main story/plot starts with a Justice of the Supreme Court killed in a secure building. Too many interviews with little clues. The end--well it didn't make much sense. The killer seemed to come out of no where. At the end of the book you find out a tiny association, but n...more

Catherine Coulter has a formula it seems for the FBI mysteries. The series focuses on Savich an d Sherlock, husband/wife team called in to solve mysterious death/s. This book involves the killing of a supreme court justice and several of the aids working in his offive. Along the way the FBI team finds that the killer is a professional hired by someone, probably an insider. S and S are called in while on vacation. They leave the vacation although reluctantly since while there they are confronted...more

I usually enjoy Catherine Coulter. Maybe I've read too many, or was just in an off mood that day. But I didn't particularly enjoy this one. The subplot with the ghost of Samantha Barrister at the beginning and ending of the story (and a couple of places in between) had absolutely no connection with the meat of the book. It felt like a "twist" thrown in there to keep us guessing, and ended up leaving me flat.

I didn't much like the main character either—very abrasive. So I would have to say this w...more

Coulter has written several novels featuring these two characters. They are FBI agents, Dillon Savitch and his wife Lacey Sherlock, who goes by the name Sherlock. In this case they get involved in solving the murder of a Justice of the Supreme Court, the killer getting inside the heavily guarded library to perform his task. A back story goes on as well, with a bit of a supernatural stretch that may have some readers raising an eyebrow. Implausible at times, but entertaining. I have liked others...more

This was not Coulter's best work in the FBI Thriller series. In her standard two mystery story-lines, there was one story about an apparition that Savich sees along the side of the road and wants him to solve her murder. In the other storyline, a Supreme Court Judge is murdered right in the Courthouse Library. The Supreme Court Judge murder storyline was a much more interesting murder case, than the other one. I would've liked her to develop the storyline further to completely have a background...more

FBI agents Savitch and Sherlock are enjoying some down time in the Pocono mountains, when Savitch has a blow out on his car. When he has finished with the tire, a woman suddenly appears from the woods. She is terrified and saying someone is trying to kill her. When Savitch takes her home, he searches the house and finds no one. The woman also is no longer there. He seeks out the local sheriff to start a search for the woman, only to be told the woman he helped, died some 30 years ago.
He wants to...more

This is the second Catherine Coulter book I've read, the first one being "The Sherbrooke Twins", which was a disappointment for me. I purchased the books because they were on sale, and it took some months before I read them. This one I liked, the mystery was written well, but it really didn't "thrill" me because it has more dialogue than action.

I'm fond of reading mysteries especially when they come in a series and I make it a point to start at the beginning. This is the 9th in the series and I'...more

This review is verbatim from previous notes when I read this book back in 2004.

Even though I love the Savich/Sherlock series--this one was terrible. The romance/flirting between the 2 sub-characters was so lame. The dailogue was cheesy. And the plot left you wishing there had been one. The sub plot was hardly mentioned throughout the horribly long interviewing of suspects and then when it did come up again in the end, it was wrapped up quickly and with no substance. The main plot was a huge let...more

The murder of a Supreme Court Justice brings Savich and Sherlock home quick from a vacation that had turned strange with the appearence of a 'ghost' that asked Savich for help. The Justices' stepdaughter, Callie Markham, an Investigative reporter from 'The Washington Post' asks to be a involved with the investigation. Being the stepdaughter, she is paired with Metro Police Detective Ben Raven. Within 24 hours, another murder and then a few days later, another murder all with the same MO. They th...more

Sherlock and Savich from the FBI are called in when a supreme court justice is murdered inside the supreme court. Can they catch the killer before others are murdered too. A local cop and the judges step-daughter also help in the investigation and is the romance angle. I was a little disappointed that you don't get to know the murderer and his reasons more. But maybe that is why these are lighter, summer reading books. Still clean and not gruesome.

I've enjoyed this series and the main characters, Sherlock and Savage. I found this entry, however, weaker than most due to a plot that just didn't hang together very well. The motivation for the assassin was weak and, to some extent, not very believable. As a result, I founding the ending somewhat disappointing. Still, I recommend the series. It's engaging and entertaining.

I keep reading Catherine Coulter's FBI series, which is one part romance, one part ghost story, and about three parts action-suspense. None of the books in the series are great, but, like John Grisham novels, they are thoroughly readable and take very few brain cells, so they are a nice alternative to yet another Law and Order rerun. This particular book is no exception.

It began with this blowout and great ghost story. I really have wanted a good ghost story, but then it left that story alone for the most part to tell another unrelated story. I thought we would tie it all in and they would be related, but they were seperate stories and sadly not related. I guess I'll have to keep looking for a good ghost story. The story probably would have related higher if the two plots would have intertwined, but they never did.
Patricia Solla
I enjoy the husband and wife FBI agent team. I also like that they now take up lots of time in the storyline. There are two tales being told and though they are really not related they mesh well. The beginning of the first tale presents an interesting situation. The main story is compelling and there's a twist to the resolution that sort of leaves things up in the air.

I think this is the first book I have read in this series. Features a married FBI couple Sherlock and Savich. Some supernatural as well as investigative sleuthing. May have created another couple of Callie Markam, investigative Washington Post reporter, and local cop, Detective Raven. Callie Markam's step-father, a Supreme Court justice is killed.

This was the 5th or 6th book I have read in this series. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure it out along with Sherlock and Savich, a very appealing couple of FBI agents, who are featured in most of her books in this series. The romance part of these books is very predictable, but the cases the author comes up with for them to solve keep me hooked. This book had a supernatural/ghost twist that made the plot more interesting.

Maybe it was the audiobook reader but this one stunk! All the men sounded like idiots and the women were obnoxious. I gave up and skimmed the paper copy of the book to the end and couldn't find any connection between the ghostly occurrence at the novel's start and the real-life events. Really lame. Catherine Coulter's definitely no J.D.Robb!

Compelling enough story to read, but the ghost thing thrown in with what I thought was strictly a realistic FBI story was weird. Also, thousands of errors in the writing, which gives me a headache. The wrap-up was a let-down somewhat since it gave a simplistic silly reason for the crime instead of something more meaty.
Shawnee Bowlin
While I enjoyed the story for the most part, some of it seemed like a bit of a stretch. Overall, it was good entertainment, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys drama and mystery with a little romance thrown in the mix. There was a fun twist towards the end, which made the story even more interesting.
Robyn Melkerson
Maybe I shouldn't be cramming the entire series at once. A little tired of 2 characters, usually one law enforcement, one not, falling madly on love in 1 week and deciding to get married. Also, Super Agent Savich and 'not to be believed also agent wife? ' Beating a dead horse. They're married, get over it.
Carol
this is a fun series. Blowout is not the first. I'd start with the first one then read on. Sherlock, a woman, is married to Dillion Savich another FBI agent and her partner. They also have a baby. These books seems to put a more human face on crime and it's aftermath.
Katey
This is a great book if you are looking for a quick read. The story has a few twists and turns and it took me until almost the end to figure out what was happening. I liked the story line even though there seems to be a few things thrown in for the fun of it.
Shewanda
This book is not my favorite read of the series. I felt there was way to many character names to keep up with. And excuses that the bad guys gave towards the end was kind of lame and predictable. Really did not make much since to me. The " romance" talk at the very end was sooo rushed and pulled out of left field. It just came to late in the story I think. Not the authors best work, in my opinion.
