True Love and Other Disasters by Rachel Gibson

When Faith Duffy's elderly husband, Virgil, passed away, not only did he leave her an outrageous amount of money, he left her his hockey team as well. Faith, who had been a trophy wife for the last 5 years and a stripper/Playboy centerfold before that, had no idea how to manage a hockey team. She was going to sell the team to Landon, Virgil's snarky son but retracted the offer when Landon embarrassed her in front of the team by calling More...

Just a quickie review here because, seriously? There's no way I can match KarenH's review (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/136...)--it tells the whole story complete with some awesome pics.:)

Anyhow, this series is shaping up to be my favorite sports romance series of all time. This one wasn't my favorite, but it's still a very enjoyable, super-sexy read, loaded with plenty of sexual tension, a cranky hero (I think all the heroes so far have been kind of foul-tempered), a sexy, More...

Normally I enjoy Rachel Gibson's books for an entertaining (guilty pleasure), easy, weekend read. This story just seemed too predictable and I just really couldn't get into her characters this time around. I actually kind of skimmed through the last chapter or so until the ending - which is normally something I don't do.

This may be my favorite so far. I'm going to admit, I had the same view of Virgil's wife that everyone else in the book did. I didn't have a high opinion of her and dismissed her in the role of classy, strong woman. I have made a mistake. She is stronger than I had ever dreamed she could be.

What I love about Rachel Gibson is that she doesn't take the role of heroine and give it to some bimbo who is dumber than a box of rocks. She takes misunderstood characters, gives them a unique hist More...

Great book. I don't know anything about hockey, yet I find Ms Gibson's hockey books outstanding for their humor and steamy romance. This time, she's done something truly remarkable: taken what should be an unlikeable heroine and made readers root for her. The heroine is a former stripper and Playboy centerfold who admittedly married a man 51 years older than herself for his money. She wanted to be taken care of. The fantasy of having tons of money yet having to do nothing illegal or immoral More...

First of all I feel like I should stress that when reading and rating romance novels, I keep in mind that it's a romance novel - my expectations are basic at best, and I make allowances for a greater suspended disbelieve and a language and style that's appropriate for the genre - nothing extraordinary. But I do want my romance novels to be better than *this*.

While Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me is the kind of chick lit that makes me want to read more m/f romance, this is the kind of book tha More...

I really love Rachel Gibson's writing style. All of her books I have read are very easy to read and flow through the pages.

She writes great characters that are flawed and believable she writes them to be quirky and humorous at times and usually has me laughing out loud a few times. She writes great love scene's that are smokin' that I often wish they start sooner in her novels.

When Faith Duffy’s elderly husband and Chinooks Hockey Team owner Virgil Duffy passes away and More...

As always the stories of Rachel Gibson brings to the reader so many emotions, very passionate scenes that make you wonder if what you read could be real. I don’t believe in love… Like I always say it only exists in books and in movies, but I love reading it.

The ardent feelings that are developed between Tyson Savage “Ty” the captain of the Chinooks, “the Saint”, “21” player and the recent widow and owner of the team Faith Duffy a thirty years woman whom in the past has been Layla th More...

It wasn’t the title of this book that made me pick it up–after all, it’s a tad generic, and having read the book, not especially relevant–but rather the name of the publisher and its quaint little logo. I’ve been known to buy books based on their publisher before, but ordinarily it’s because I’ve found that certain imprints suit my reading tastes quite will. In this case, my purchase was completely driven by aesthetics. Yes, I should be ashamed of myself.

Anyway, True Love and Other More...

In general, Gibson is derivative of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and this book very much resembled Phillips' first book about the Chicago Stars. However, I was dissatisfied with the characters and plot. Faith is an ex-Playboy bunny who married a much older man for his money but professes to have loved him very much. While it is not surprising (at least in the grand scheme of romance novels) that she would fall for a sexy hockey player the minute she is widowed, it seemed less plausible to me that More...

When they signed their deal with Harlequin, NASCAR noted that “40 percent of its estimated 75 million fans in the United States (were) women”. But what about the NHL, where it is reported, that anywhere between 33 to 44 percent of its fan base is female.

What we do know is that there’s enough of a female fan base for the Washington Capitals to have formed More...

Rachel Gibson has it tough with me. She rated a five stars with her first two books, Simply Irresistable and Truly Madly and I compare all of her books to the first two. Gibson writes a sexy romance.Ever since she introduced the Seattle Chinooks in her first book, Simply Irresistable, I wanted more stories about the players. Sex and hockey is the greatest combination since chocolate and wine. The hero, Ty Savage, is the new captain of the team. He has to deal with the new owner of the team, th More...

I really enjoyed this one - 4.5 Stars!

Even though this story followed the same or similar format as others I've read in the series, I liked this one significantly more.

What I liked about this book:
1 -- I liked Ty - quite a bit. I liked his Canadian accent. I like his Hockey talent. And, I liked the attraction he has for Faith.
2 -- I like Faith. She was beautiful and knew it, but wasn't arrogant like some really beautiful women are. She says she learned to make the b More...

I am a bit torn when it comes to the rating of this book. I feel like giving it only 2 stars, but then again, it had the usual flawless reading style which we know from Rachel Gibson but on the other hand it was kind of...bad. Again.

I was warned from Ceci that this was not Rachel Gibson's best work of fiction. Which doesn't stop me from trying it anyway. Otherwise, I should have listen to Ceci since we practically share the same taste when it comes to books. Plus, I always have hope More...

I was incredibly surprised by this book. I can't wait to read the next one. The character development was amazing! I don't know that I have read a romance novel where I've seen character development that rivaled what we read in English Lit. It was really, really good! The plot was fun, the characters themselves felt very comfortable, and the dialogue was quick witted.

Normally, when I choose to read a romance novel, I do so because it's not going to kill me to put it down. I tend to More...

Hokey takımını Virgil'in (ölen patron) oğluna satmaya karar veriyor ama oğlu onu herkesin önünde aşağılayınca satmaktan vazgeçiyor tabi. Bu kararından sonra hokey öğrenmeye çalışıyor ve tabi takımın kaptan Tyson Savage ile a More...

I enjoyed this book; not as good as See Jane Score (but not many books are) and better than Simply Irresistible and as good as The Trouble with Valentines Day.

Virgil had died of a heart attack and left the Chinooks to his trophy wife Faith, who is a former stripper and playmate. Ty Savage is the captain of the Chinooks and was bought by Duffy at great expense to win the Stanley Cup. Ty is singularly focused on this aim and doesn't want trouble at the club to mess up his opportunity More...

First, I’m happy that Rachel Gibson is writing about hockey again.

With that said, I couldn’t relate to Faith in this book and had a hard time drumming up sympathy for her. She is a stripper turned Playboy Centerfold turned trophy wife who is struggling to find herself after her elderly husband kicks the bucket. I felt like I needed a little more back-story on her character. She totally despised her childhood and her mother’s lifestyle as a stripper, yet followed in her mother’s foots More...

Cute story. It kind of reminds me of Susan Elizabeth Phillips Chicago Stars series, which I love. I can't say that I loved Faith's background and how she married a man old enough to be her grandfather, but I appreciated how her life changed and how she changes as a person as she found herself the owner of a hockey team. It covers how she struggles to fit in because of previous bad choices and how others viewed her. She's a realist and knows that some of the opinions are earned, though some o More...

Ok. First of all, the bad things: the action is slow in the beginning. Rachel Gibson missed a lot of opportunity. Faith and Ty could have teased each other via the media more than once. The Beauty and the Savage beast theme could have been exploited more than once. Faith could have been more at ease with the players. Faith's mother and Ty's father were obnoxious.

Ok. The good thing: Faith and Ty had good chemistry going on for them. I still need to read Rob's story but for now on, Ty More...

Another cool read from Rachel gibson. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed Faith Duffy's unapologetic nature. She wasn't ashamed of any of the things she did in the past and that kick-ass-and-who-cares-what-anyone-thinks-about-it attitude was awesome. The book did kind of remind me of It Had to Be YouIt Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips but the similarities in plot were minor. Overall this was a fun quick book to read. I was disappointed with this book. It was 345 pages long but I feel like a lot went uncovered. The book also held a lot of elements in two other books. This book seems like a cheap knock off version of Suzanne Elizabeth Phillips's It Had to be You. I also felt like the end of the book really reminded me of Deirdre Martin's Body Check. I kept thinking about other books while reading and that wasn't a good sign. I also figured out what the major source of conflict was pretty early on and was surpr More...

I really did not enjoy this book. Absolutely nothing happened!

My best friend recommended it to me so I felt obligated to read it. When I had about 100 pages left I can remember thinking, "Something's GOT to happen soon, right?". I was wrong.

The main characters are likeable but not enough to put up with 300+ pages of a non-story. I usually have comments about whether I liked the plot, but there was none; it was simply a dull romance.

And at one point More...

After being dumped at the altar by Georgeanne in the first book in the Seattle Chinooks series, Chinooks owner Virgil Duffy had gone on to marry an ex-stripper and Playmate of the Year. Now Virgil has died and left his widow, Faith, the owner of his beloved ice hockey team. Virgil’s decision doesn’t sit well with the players or his family. But Faith is a trophy wife in the best sense of the word. While Virgil was in his 80’s and unable to perform in the bedroom, Faith loved him and ensured that More...

Hard to rate this one. On the plus side, it kept me engaged, and I thought it was kind of interesting for once to have a "gold digger" heroine who actually could truly be considered a gold digger. (Though of course she's practically a virgin widow and was never that into sex til she met the hero.) Unfortunately, her character is pretty inconsistent. And not only is the story quite derivative and the writing repetitious but there is very little chemistry between the leads. I just talke More...

Plesantly surprised with this author. First time reading her work. It was a fun read, and her writing style reminded me of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, who is one of my fav authors. I will definately read more of her books.

For some reason I haven't read any of Rachel Gibson's books. This one was okay, at first it was so similar in setup to SEP's It Had to Be You that I thought I wouldn't get very far into it. (I liked SEP's book and see no reason that plot needed to be repeated.)

I felt like it was missing a chapter, somewhere between "we can't do this" and "let's go for it" in regards to the relationship, and I don't think Gibson ever let the characters get to know each other on more More...

Gibson returns to the world of ice hockey and the Seattle Chinooks -- just a few years after SEE JANE SCORE* (which I enjoyed well enough) -- where Virgil Duffy, the team's owner, has just died. The new owner? Widow Faith Duffy, who, for all intents and purposes, appeared to be his trophy gold-digging wife who was half a century younger than his 81 years of age. Her former status as Playmate of the Year doesn't help change that popular assumption.

Ty 'Saint' Savage is the team captain More...

One of the main reasons I read Rachel Gibson is she writes engaging stories with characters that fall right off the pages and keeps me entertained from the first page all the way to the last page. I don't have to plow my way through that first part of the book that can sometimes bore the ever living snot out of me. Her books take off right from the beginning and keeps me plugged in.
