This is the 3rd biography of The Black Prince I've read. Compared to Richard Barber's biography, this one is quite brief and I'm not entirely certain why it was written as I didn't catch the revelation of any new enlightening details on the life of the Black Prince. But, much to my dismay, I did feel that Mr. Green made many assumptions about the reader's familiarity with the topic which was sometimes frustrating. David Green does an excellent job of synthesising the source material about Edward of Woodstock and information about what was happening in Europe during this time, and produces a book about Europe through the lens of one man's life.

I'm honestly wondering how to incorporate the "Black Prince" into the novel, knowing he wasn't nicknamed as such until approximately a hundred years after his death.
