Though the idea of this was immensely appealing, I thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity. I was hoping to learn a little about how Marsden ticks; I was hoping he might deconstruct his characters and narratives to give us, the reader, some extra insight. He touches on some of this, but only in a bare-bones, superficial kind of way.

One interesting and disappointing fact was that a lot of Marsden's characterisation and teenage 'anecdotes' sprang from his background as a boarding school teach
