A great intro to imagery and guided meditations however, I would not recommend this book to anyone who is not clear or certain about what thier spiritual beliefs are. The book takes the approach that 'if you think right, life can be in your hands' and that philosophy has proven itself fatalistic throughout history. There is one great small section on affirmations that can be integrated into changing our thoughts to plant seeds of new growth.

If The Secret left you rolling your eyes, try this book instead. Gawain invokes more spirituality and less judgment by focusing on tools to help readers uncover what they really want out of life. She doesn't assume that everyone wants to live the Richistani life, and she certainly doesn't accuse the reader of being too lazy, uninspired, or ignorant to be rich and famous.
Yes, Oprah, I think your book recommendation SUCKS.

I found this book in a used book store. Within 5 minutes I stumbled across it and it has been a staple since.
What I learned from reading this book is how to use my imagination to create the life I am intended to live.
No longer fearful and afraid of what the future holds or consumed with what has happened in the past.
Looking forward to more fearless journeys.

I thought my search for Spirituality and perspective changes would end when I found www.Stevepavlina.com
He writes about personal development in such a lucid manner and there's a fresh style in him. But when I came across this book by Shakti Gawain, I couldn't believe I had yet another perspective change!!!
I'm now reading Steve's articles in the eyes of Shakti. This book is a wonder.
However there's one thing I have to warn the future readers.

This is has been a very useful book. It "found" me at just the right time. I've known for a long time that we can rewrite our negative mental programming, but I'd never taken the initiative until recently to start monitoring my thoughts and what I found made me realize how much I needed to "change the tapes". This book gives a lot of very simple and effective techniques (affirmations, meditations, etc...) I've taken notes and started doing some of the exercises and already

Until reading this book it never really clicked in my brain the power of attitude and mental power we all have. I have always been very focused on physical health which is important but after reading this book and trying out some of the meditations it is amazing and so cool to feel how much power we have in our visions and attitude. It made me realize how really I can create anything I want out of life :) Yay I would reccommend this book. Its a quick read and im guessing wont be a waste of your

I think this is a good book to read every few years, and even just keep as a reference book. I recently RE-read it over the holidays -- which was a wonderful time to because of the natural instinct to VISUALIZE the new year and this new decade! A very positive, simple, straightforward guide on setting intentions, goals and realizing what you truly want ~ or maybe DON'T want. I feel like 2010 is off to a great start for me and I also think it's because I read this book again! Great birthday g

This book teaches you how to use visualization to help you perform and do things that you want to and need to do. It has worked for me in a few times in my life when I needed the help of concentration to make something work.
This book is well worth reading and using the techniques that are found within the book.
I enjoyed reading it and using what I learned in it.

I came across this book years ago and was skeptical, didn't really apply the methods and didn't get any results. After several years and a lot of work on self, I now believe this approach doesn't work for many people due to blockages and ego attachments to suffering. Much of those same blocks are now behind me. I've tried this approach again, and I've had one amazing result which has completely blown my mind. I'm now a true believer.

While it definitely has its fluffy New Age moments, this is, overall, a great book. Much more realistic than the highly-popular and bestselling Rhonda Byrne book (The Secret), Creative Visualization (originally published in 1975) does not come across as a cosmic cash cow waiting to be milked like the aforementioned tome. It is about changing your life by changing your negative state of mind. For example, this quote from page 10 sums up the book quite nicely in my opinion:

I think it has a great concept and maybe at the time it was first published, it was one of the few specialized books which explains selling over 6 million copies of it. Yet, I don't find much of a help specially when all the exercises in this book at basically to lay down, close your eyes, relax deeply and "Oumm". It's useful, helpful and not bad at all but there are much better books out there other than that.

WOW!!!! After reading half of this book, I cried just from relating to so much of the understanding of how everything works within Life.
I also admire Shakti Gawain for her life story and development of this concept to maturity. This book is well-written, easy to digest and understand and filled with knowledge! Excellent read for a beginner seeker!!! :)

This is what you want to read instead of "The Secret." She's not trying to sell you on the concept (as opposed to The Secret, which spends pages and pages telling you how easy "it" is and how good "it" is before ever telling you WHAT "it" is...) and she offers practical ideas for visualizations that will stick with you and aren't all new-agey-touchy-feely-cliche.

Before "The Secret" there was this book. Shakti Gawain is such a gifted author and I feel really lucky that this little paperback, published in 1982, fell into my hands. This one is staying in my collection for continuing reference, as the years unfold.

This book changed my life and taught me how to shape it. It helped me to know myself, set goals, take control of my destiny and make something out of nothing. This is the book that taught me to make a Treasure Map or Dreamboard, long before that was the thing to do. It continues to influence me daily and I return to it again and again.

I finished reading this book very quickly. It's helpful and practical for anyone wanting to start real work on meditation and changing her life for the better. I've been using the methods and exercises, and I can see a difference in my outlook. I'm impressed! Considering picking up another book by this author.

This is the easy read of learning positive thought. Right up my street but I can imagine many would not be into this theory. If you know me you will also know I am one of the most relaxed and positive people you know. Part of this is due to my nature but mostly it's because I have consciously made the decision to be this way.

This book has gotten me through the roughest times. I know that sounds totally lame, but it's true. I'm not usually into the new-agey hippie stuff, but it certainly helps someone like me who has a tendency to be negative. Unfortunately, my copy has disappeared.

This was the first book I ever read on visualisation. For me, this and the audio book, are the best grounding available in honing visualisation skills. The book contains an explanation of the techniques and exercises to help learn them. Shakti makes it all very easy to understand. It did help having a copy of the exercises in audio form, so that I could follow them easily.
Perhaps this book changed my life the most out of any other book. After completing some of the exercises in More...

A thread in a group I belong to reminded me of this book - I read this in my late 20s which was a perfect time. I've used creative visualization many times, especially in job interviews, and I always got the job.

I love this book and continue to use it over the years. It provides some practical techniques for visualization and for manifesting things you want to bring into your life - or letting go of things you don't.

audiobook: Excellent. If you could have only one book on creative visualization, this would be my choice. Clear and simple language for a powerful concept, with an excellent meditation to support.

Good for clearing out the cobwebs and training your mind for positive thinking. A friend gave me the companion workbook and I find it very helpful for setting intentions.

The author points out that creative visualization is not just a technique, it is a state of consciousness in which we realize that we are the continuous creators of our universe and we take responsibility for that in every moment. In this book she guides the reader through visualization techniques (e.g. meditations, goal setting, treasure maps) and explains how to work with affirmations for specific problems or situations. The book is easy and fun to read which makes it an excellent choice for b

Very good indeed. Some of the tools are a bit far-fetched for me but that is the point of creativity. I enjoyed the book all the same and still finding it useful.
