The Cuban Black Bean Soup is outstanding. I wasn't sure how I felt about bananas in my soup, but I had to give it a try. Spicy, coconutty, and slightly sweet and fruity. Mmmmmmm!
You don't have to be vegan to enjoy these recipes. I try to avoid animal products as much as possible, but I'm not a fanatical freak about it. A little cheese or sour cream added to some of these recipes really takes them over the top. You could easily add meat to some of them if you're a carnivore. The...more

Tried for the first time to make my favorite Thai food, Pad Thai and it worked. I'll do it again for sure.
I put this book on hold at the library and when I picked it up, I just had to go through it - what a wonderful delight!
The seasonal menus, the party ideas/foods, the sheer diversity of ingredients and the general style make this book a total winner. All of the ingredients that I needed for the foods (and many others that I have seen in the book) are accessible and should be stocked in all natural food stores and/or many grocery stores.

I love this cookbook! Recipes are organized by season and by occasion/type of meal. There are a variety of different styles of food from all over the world, and a mixture of quick-and-easy recipes and cook-all-day meals. This is the best cookbook I have found. Typically, when I look through a cookbook (even other vegan cookbooks), only a small number of recipes appeal to me. With The Vegan Table, I want to try almost every recipe. The variety of foods is great. There really is something f...more
Let me say that I don't entertain and am not a vegan (just a reg. vegetarian), but found this book prefect for my cooking needs. And here's why:
Being vegetarian usually means putting up with recipe books full of either dressed up vegetable side dishes or really complex recipes that take 30 ingredients/spices and a few hours to prepare. It is really hard to find nutritional one-course family vegetarian meals that are also fast and easy to prepare. And that come out right the first ti...more

My absolute favourite cookbook to-date! Colleen has easy to follow recipes that turn out exactly the way you want, every time. Many people complain about trying to find ingredients for vegan recipes, but I don't have this problem with The Vegan Table. The vast majority of the ingredients can be found at the grocery store and for most of the ones that aren't, Colleen has suggested replacements for them.

Recommends it for:
everybody; those who cook & entertain; cookbook collectors; all vegans & veg friendly cooks
First, I want to say that this might have become my new favorite cookbook (it’s amazing!) and I have read about one hundred 100% vegan cookbooks, and many vegetarian and other cookbooks, so that’s saying a lot. Also, I borrowed this from the library but once I started reading, I immediately purchased it. I’m buying books only very rarely so this is significant. It is about to go on my kitchen bookcase in an easy to grab location.

I keep on returning to this cookbook again and again. I'd say it'd have to be my favourite of ALL TIMES. So much so that I have ordered it as wedding gifts for two of my (occasionally vegan) girlfriends. I have impressed so many people with Colleen's recipes who didn't know that vegan food can be SO delicious. Thank you, Colleen for making me look like a chef!
I have currently made the decision to go completely Vegan and this cookbook has already helped me stay the course. It has really great recipes with a theme of entertaining. However, the recipes are very doable for a family or even one or two people. This isn't fancy/smancy rather a lot of the recipes are familiar, family style foods that even your non-vegan friends and family would find tasty. And there aren't long lists of exotic ingredient either.
I love love love this cookbook! It has great photos and reads like a conversation with a good friend, plus it offers simple suggestions for substitutes of some of the more exotic or expensive ingredients. I've tried 5 recipes so far and each has passed the family test. I highly recommend the African Sweet Potato and Peanut Stew, Tempeh Sloppy Joes, and her takes on Chana Masala and Red Lentil Daal. The only thing I would do to improve on this book is to give more nutritional information for ...more
Even, if you aren't vegan, there are some bad a$$ recipes in this book. I am definitely thinking about doing the autumn recipes for my thanksgiving feast this year. And if you haven't heard Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's podcast, you are missing out. She might be edging out Jo Stepaniak in my top five fave vegans list...!
This is the best vegan cookbook ever!! Every single recipe I've tried has been fabulous!! The combination 'no weird ingredients or spices' and 'not one failed recipe', makes this my fav vegan cookbook! Also by the same author "Vegan Baking" is worth checking out.
I love how this book is set up seasonally - which is how we all should be eating! Great, easy to follow recipes. My favorite part is that under each recipe title is a quick-glance guide as to if the recipe is soy-, dairy-, wheat-free!
VERY beautiful book here. Set up in a great, easy to use, and interesting way! Great take oon the classic cookbook. Well done, with very good recipies and beautiful photographs! (more like 4 1/2 stars!)
I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but they look great. There is a recipe for red velvet cake that looks yummy which I'll have to try out at the next special occasion!
This is an excellent book! The recipes are simple and delicious, and the photographs are beautiful and inspiring. I HIGHLY recommend the Beet Bundt Cake, on page 184.
LOVE this book. Lots of great and creative recipes. Though I definitely have had a few that didn't turn out. Also, I feel like it needs more "main dish" recipes.
Pretty pictures. As usual, some of the recipes are so complicated, I'll never try them. However, many are simple enough for my family to try. Think I'll buy it
A great concept - vegan entertaining. The recipes are worthwhile, though many of them include ingredients that are somewhat out of my price range.
Best thing about this book is the meal construction and presentation. Patrick-Goudreau makes sure you don't miss your meat entree.
Not particularly interested in the philosphical reasons for going vegan. But, I found a lot of recipes I'd like to try including a new fig recipe.
Just received my copy - can't wait to get into it this weekend!! What a beautiful book!
Everything a vegan girl could dream of...and then some. My favorite cookbook to date.
One of my favorites if I have a lot of time to cook and want something more gourmet.
Great cookbook. While it's more for entertaining than regular nights at home, there are many simple recipes that can be made anytime. My favorite dish is the Creamy macaroni and cashew cheese! It's my family's favorite "non-cheese" mac and cheese!
Edited to list recipes I've tried:
- Creamy Macaroni and Cashew Cheese ***** (So good! This is our favorite mac and "cheese" recipe)
-Honey-like Mustard Salad Dressing **** (Tasty but a little too sweet...)

I really like the practical advice for beginning and maintaining your vegan diet. Like what to tell your family if they get upset that you're not eating animal products. And the photos in this cookbook are great!

Not sure how to rate this book. I only made 2 recipes out of it and I liked both of them. But this book is organized in a strange fashion - instead of appetizers, main dishes, sides kinda thing the book is grouped by how many people you'll be feeding . . . so "intimate dinner for two" or "group potluck" or "holiday feast" - organizing the chapters this way made it a little hard for me to navigate.
Beautiful book! I can't wait to make all the recipes in it!
This has some of the best and easiest recipes to make.
so far, love all the recipes I've tried.
