Daisuke and Sakurai spend much of this book dancing around each other with violent clashes and strong attraction/passion that neither of them want to feel for the other.

Incredibly strong willed, Dai craves a stronger willed partner that can dominate him, even though he barely recognizes his own need. He has spent his life fantasizing about out-of-reach people, in denial and living a vanilla het-life that fits with the idea of a NY cop. He does not want to acknowledge his needs.

Sakurai has lived alone for so long and with so much immortal power that he has lost most motivation or interest to interact with anyone, including his own people. However, he does notice Dai and is hooked before he realizes it by Dai's aggression, passionate need to be dominated and strength of will.

When family tragedy occurs at the hands of vampires, Dai knows he must become one to achieve vengence. Sakurai has baggage about turning a lover (carried over from Blood Brothers) but in the end they manage a partnership that does seem to be able to withstand eternity.

I am giving this one 3.5 stars because of the common plot devices that I knew were coming. As with many of these types of books, my complaint is that everyone with more than two scenes in the book turns out evil and corrupt. Nearly everyone killed (there is much violence in this book, it is vampires afterall) is set up with backstory so that the reader is allowed to think "they had it coming" and "good riddance". "Thanks so much vampires for ridding the world of yet another degenerate." Additionally, my biggest pet-peeve, the female love interest character is also portrayed as manipulative and backstabbling.

Although The sex in this book is very graphic and raw, the sex between Dai and Sakurai (that they both are awake and participating in) starts and stops several times for reason I never quite understand except to drag out the final conclusion. Much of it is dreams/fantasy/interupted until nearly the very end.

I liked this book it was a good read that kept me entertained but I don't know if I liked it enough to try some of the backlist. (less)

Top-notch writing, intriguing plot and characters, but ultimately I found the relationship between the two main characters to be quite unsatisfying. So many threads to twine together seamlessly. Does it work? Well, the writing is what kept me coming back to want to finish (took a few weeks). The elements, when sorted, was what had me wondering: Is
