Her twin was a dead man.

Tattoo artist Kelsie Cole cannot believe her brother would give his best friend use of his cabin the same week he promised it to her. She had been butting heads with straight-laced John McBride since they were kids.

John McBride only takes one week of vacation a year, and there isn’t any way he’s driving down a mountain back to Raleigh just because K...more

This was such a sexy, romantic, well written read! I hope to find some full length novels by this author, but will definitely be reading more of her short stories.

I just loved John McBride and Kelsie Cole. Growing up, John was Kelsie’s brother, Gray’s, best friend but her relationship with John was tenuous at best. He’d gone on to become a very successful business owner – the suit wearing briefcase toting, big money making kind – while Kelsie had become the owner of The Sweetest Tattoo tattoo sh...more

This was another enjoyable story by Cameron Dane. The H/H have known each other for several years, but they have never given into their true feelings for each other. By hiding their true feelings, they've created a tension and defensiveness that must be broken down in order to truly be happy.

I probably would give this story a 3.5 if GR would let me, so I'm giving it a 4. I did like it, and the sex scenes were great, but I like Dane's M/M romances better. ;)

This was my 1st read by this author, but it won't be my last. John and Kelsie were very likable, with sizzling sexual chemistry and enough backstory to make them 3-dimensional, the setup was simple - hey, it's a short story - but effective, the conflict between John and Kelsie was believable and the love scenes were scorching hot! Can you tell how much I liked this story? ;)

A fantastically sweet and hot erotic story of unrequited love. Though it was a short read, I didn't feel that the story suffered at all. This is my first read by author C. Dane...I will be looking for more of her work to read.

I picked this up from Liquid Silver after getting sucked in by the excerpt despite it being twice as much as a novella should cost, and I'm glad I did.

Kelsie Cole is a pink-haired, well-inked tattoo parlor owner who hasn't worn a single-digit clothing size since she was a pre-teen. She's off for a week vacationing at her twin brother's lakeside cabin in North Carolina and she's not too keen to see the car pulling into the driveway. She decides her brother's a dead man for telling his best friend...more

I liked this story, even though it was kinda short and I would have liked to learn more about the MCs. But it was well delivered and it didn't seek to reap any laurels of originality, even though Kelsie, with her pink hair and multiple tattoos and piercings, was no classic romantic heroine. So, I liked her. Or maybe it's my soft spot for tattoo artists.

And since this is erotic romance, I should add that the sex scenes were scorching hot and I particularly enjoyed the one involving a certain toy....more

**REVISED: 2.5/3 Stars: I realize now I was being to harsh...

This little smutty gem was short, sweet and straight to the smutty point.

Which in all definitions of smut, it is exactly what it should be.

We first meet Kelsie; a wild card for all intents and purposes. She’s got tattoos, piercings and neon pink hair. She owns and runs her own tattoo shop and is every bit “sticking-it-to-the-man” as the next rebel girl.

Then there’s her and her twin brother’s child hood friend John. Shooting the straig...more

A very sweet friends/enemies-to-lovers story with some very hot love scenes. Thanks to Audrey for the rec! It's hard for me to enjoy a (romance) novella because I invariably feel that there's not enough time for the relationship and characters to properly develop. Dane did a great job despite the short length though, and I think one of the things that helped was they are the only two in the story throughout. At one point they go to a diner and run into a friend of hers, but he's there for only a...more

This was a really nice short story with all the right, exciting elements. It went down very smoothly.

Kelsie and McBride [John], have known each other for many years. The tie that binds them is Kelsie's twin brother and their shared childhood memories. They each have a bit of baggage to overcome. They are both now adults and successful in life. She is a tattoo artist and owns her own shop - doing very well. He is in investments and is in business with her brother.

John has loved Kelsie for years b...more

Nothing much to look forward to this swift read about John and Kelsie spending a week holed up at a cabin amid a burgeoning romance and sizzling sex. Hmmm..okay! There might be something appealing after all.Ha!

The story itself was sweet: a buttoned up businessman and a plus size, tattooed woman have been fighting since they were kids and finally morph into lovers. Plus there's the unrequited love theme that's always a favorite. The special part of this story was the sex, which was both hot AND realistic. It had one of the most realistic anal play scenes I've ever read, not at all fake choreographed.

The problem with this book was that the dialogue was an odd mix of casual, realistic speech mixed with...more

I don’t read too many contemporary romance or erotica, but this short contemporary erotica romance got my attention from a couple of Goodreaders’ reviews and the premise of the story drew me in. It’s only 75 pages so I decided to give it a try. In the past, the few erotica or borderline erotica stories I’ve read lacked emotion or an overall purpose other than to present readers sex on a page. Basically, the main dish is usually the sex and however hot or imaginative the sex is, I’ve been left fe...more

Having read Book 2 in this series first, the aptly titled Grey's Awakening, and having loved the book, I was grateful for the opportunity to read about how Grey's sister, Kelsie, and his best friend, John, got together. This is a novella, and though I knew it was going in, I always curse the fact that novellas are too short. This is of course my flaw, not theirs, but it always takes a little something away for me because of it. In e-book format, this is only a 73 page story. That said, this was...more

I'm not usually an erotic romance reader, but this novella was recommended when I sought recs for one of my favorite themes (discussed below). This story was very good at weaving the emotional development of the H and h throughout their physical interactions. Because they're isolated at a cabin for a week, they are constantly in each other's company and learning more about each other beyond the antagonistic exchanges that had been their previous norm. Add to that constant companionship the fact...more

This was a short read by Cameron Dane. Kelsie has pink hair, lots of piercings, various tattoos and is a size 16. John is a tall dark and handsomely somber business owner. As different as they seem, they both share a childhood being raised by Kelsie's grandmother when their own parents were neglectful. For most of that childhood Kelsie and John bickered and agitated one another so when John shows up at her brother's cabin during her week of vacation Kelsie is anything but thrilled. Sparks quickl...more

This was the first E book I read. It proberly didnt help that I decided to read it on my I phone instead of a proper Kindle or E reader. But I didnt enjoy reading from a screen.

The book seemed really short to me? And there was absoultly NO backstory and no plot. It just jumped straight into it.

Alot of sex is an understatment! This whole book was page after page of bed romping!

A good quick read inbetween books for me.

Sweet read. I normally do not read short stories. I hate investing emotions in characters who are only with me for one hundred pages or less. Having said that, this is a Dane novel so it's an auto-read for me. I really enjoyed the slick way Dane maneuvered these into a a situation where she wouldn't have to pull focus from the two lovers. John McBride has lusted after his best friend and business partners sister since they were kids. Kelsie Cole is the grown up version of a wild child. She's ver...more

Loved this book!!! I highly recommend reading this before reading Grey's Awakening...it's a very sweet romance that you will definitely carry with you even after you finish the book...

I try not to give out 5 stars unless a book really is amazing. Well in my opinion this book really is amazing! I love, love, loved John and Kelsie.

At first I wasn't sure when I first started reading that this wouldn't just be some book filled with sex and nothing else. See the author doesn't spend a lot of time building up to the relationship. At first the writing felt a little lose, almost as if we were missing some of the story if that makes any sense. However, that is quickly replaced once t...more

Kelsey and John find themselves together for a week's vacation in a forest cabin, and although they've known each other for 20 years, Kelsey won't admit her feelings for John, and John won't admit he's desperately in love with Kelsey for fear of being rebuffed.

Basic premise of two people in love who won't admit it. Kelsey is the worst because she's hidden behind her fear of losing someone she loves ever since being taken away (for good reasons) from her parents. John knows how much he loves her...more

*** 3 stars ***

John McBride is successful businessmen. He is ruthless in the boardroom. Does everything by the book. Smart, good-looking, always wearing a suit... He is my favorite type of romance novel hero - the one that seems uptight and cold, but on the inside...

Kelsie Cole is a rebel. You can see it just by looking at her. Pink hair. Lots of tattoos (twin dragons are my favorite). Hates fixed working hours and rules. But the thing that irritates her the most is her brothers best friend McBr...more

The feelings of the two MCs jump off the page, a remarkable feat for a short book. We aren't bogged down by a lot of back story or setting up, we're into the tension right out of the gate. The plot is flawed, IMO, though. Without giving too much away, the reason the woman holds back is inconsistent with the rest of her personality. Part of what makes these stories work is the compassion we feel for the characters, we root for them, experience their angst with them. But if it doesn't make sense,...more

This is the first book I have read by Cameron Dane, a sweet story of Kelsey and John, who have known each other since childhood and have been fighting most of the time and now find themselves alone in a remote cabin where they discover and admit their love for each other…but not without a lot of angst and soul-searching. Sparks fly from the first moment they see each other

Kelsey I quite like despite her attitude …the pink hair, the tattoes, the fact that she’s not the usual stick-thin damsel in...more

I'm a sucker for friends to lovers stories, but this was friends to lovers with a twist. It was more like frenemies to lovers, at least on her side. He was her twin brother's best friend. They sort of grew up together because of John's parents -- he spent more time at their home than his own because of a rough family life. And along the way he fell in love, but didn't think he had a shot so he never pursued it. And she has a mouth on her and they fought constantly, even about stupid things. It s...more

Very short but sweet story about Kelsey and John. John is Kelsey's twin brother, Grey, best friend and business partner. Kelsey goes to Grey's cabin for a week only to find out that John is staying there as well. The pair do not get along at all so just imagine what being stuck together for a week feels like when both refuse to leave. I really enjoyed this book. This is the first that I've read from this author so I'll have to look into reading more from her.

So I just LOVE Grey's Awakening and it was nice to read the first book in the series about his twin sister. This was a short novella but it was good. I'm glad I read Grey's story first.

I gotta tell you that I was so impressed with the scene with the butt plug. It was erotic and I was so glad that the author had the guts to show us a straight man getting off with his woman and an anal toy!!!

Shout out to Bookie Nookie for the recco!!

This was a 5 star, fast read. I loved the characters, especially John. Kelsie spent a few pages too long freaking out over their differences, but aside from that (very minor) I loved it. Steamy, with two characters that seemed real and weren't cookie cutter perfect. My fist foray with Cameron Dane & it won't be the last!

The thing I gotta admit above kelsie is that she is a brave woman to just jump into a relationship with John as she did. I mean she Sid know him for a long time and nothing is wrong with sex but they just jumped to it too quickly after supposedly not being able to stand each other for such a long time. It just didn't make any sense at all. It unnerved me that she would do that and fell in love like the weak woman she described she didn't want to be.

You could tell from the start that this was a good read..short but good. I love when the heroine is not a size 0 (which is not a size)!! She's a average size and a strong willed girl!! These two spark from the very beginning..would loved if the relationship could have explored more what they will go thru to stay together, but otherwise I enjoyed it.

Great characters! One thing I loved was feeling the shift from “having sex” to “making love” – in both this book and the sequel, the author is brilliant at showing us that evolution.

But as another reviewer mentioned, there's an odd mix of writing styles. Some of the dialogue is normal conversation, while other exchanges are purple prose speeches. Some of the sex scenes are wicked-hot (the anal scene Amber pointed out), but others read like a how-to manual for virgins.

I’m glad I read Grey's Awake...more

I am an air force brat and spent most of my growing up years living overseas in Italy and England, as well as Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia while we were stateside. I now live in Florida once again with my big, wonderfully pushy family and my three-legged cat, Harry. I have been reading romance novels since I was twelve years old, and twenty years later I still adore them. Currently, I have...more
