"I have no longer a horror of others - I fear I may resemble them" And -- "There are moments when the destiny of a whole nation is being weighed in the scales of Fate. One of them weighs down the other. Everyone already thinks he has attained the proposed end. Suddenly some invisible hand lets fall into the other scale the blade of a poniard or a pistol-ball. Then all changes, and one only cry is heard, Woe to the vanquished!"

Wow. It was paragraphs like that that just knocked my socks off. I al

I wonder if J.J. Abrams and his co-writers read Taking the Bastile as they wrote The Force Awakens? The most vivid parallel between the two is the introduction of the king and queen of France. Just like the Star Wars fan is waiting for Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette are not personally part of the story until toward the end. In the same way tears filled my eyes when Princess Leia was introduced in The Force Awakens, so too when Marie Antoinette appears:

Great

An excellent read, a story about the french revolution, and the taking of the bastile, what the people did and how the palace reacted. Events are fast and converstions are enjoyable. Love it.
