With Wes’s story we come to the end of the Tall Dark and Dangerous series and I have to say I was more than a little sad. I’ve had such a good time with this series (and all its hunky SEAL's) and can’t say enough good things about it.

With Wes’s story we come to the end of the Tall Dark and Dangerous series and I have to say I was more than a little sad. I’ve had such a good time with this series (and all its hunky SEAL's) and can’t say enough good things about it.

I’m always guaranteed a good time here, with clever writing, action packed storylines, to-die-for heroes and strong women that bring them to their knees. Brockmann’s dialogue is always good too; sigh-worthy, realistic and often very funny. All the books are loosely connected (following Seal Team 10’s Alpha squad) yet each still different enough that it feels fresh and unique and could easily be read as stand-alone. Of course then theres the romance and Brockmann will get you every time especially when her tough guys cry, and they almost always do.

My only complaint with this would be that because it’s the last in the series I wanted to have a more final epilogue. One that included all the guys together and some reflection (like say a wedding) giving me a sort of closure. As it was she even introduced new characters and then it just well…ended like all the other books. HEA-see ya later. I was like now what? What’s going to happen to SEAL team 10? -Sigh, I need to get a life.

Wes Skelly is on leave in LA. He’s also in love with a married woman so he doesn’t expect much to come of the blind date he’s just been set up on by Melody and Cowboy Jones (Everyday, Average Jones) Brittany Evans isn’t really keen on this date either and sets the rules quickly (not gunna happen), which surprisingly results in the two of them becoming friends without having to worry about the romance end of it. Britt is different then any woman Wes has ever met and for some reason he finds himself opening up to her and relaxing. She’s a single mother to an adopted son, a good listener, tons of fun and the perfect nurturer for a man with serious issues (god I love the tortured heroes.)

Yeah Wes has some problems; he “might” be an alcoholic, craves a cigarette every couple of pages has issues with his father, never got over the death of his brother, is in love with a colleagues wife and top it off is vertically challenged, being the only SEAL not topping 6feet. Still with all the baggage Wes is a very likable guy. I loved watching him open up and realize that he was worth much more then unrequited love. The inner dialogue is again very good as are the love scenes and I enjoyed the fact that these two became friends before the lust hit. With a cute sub plot involving a spoiled TV starlet, a crazed stalker and a surprising death, this had just about everything I could ask for until I realized it was the last one. Pleasant contemporary romance with some suspense. I enjoyed the interesting characters.

OPINION:
What I liked best is the author’s style of lots of conversation. Too many authors don’t do enough dialogue. This was a good way to see the relationship develop. Although I was surprised that both main characters used the phrase “you know” way too much. That is a crutch when people speak, but writing can eliminate it. Maybe it’s true to life, but it’s distracting when written.

I loved one part about Wes going to college. Brittany suggested he live on campus in a dorm with other students. He said he spent his life living with others when he had no family. So now that he has a family (Brittany) he wants to continue feeling part of the family and living with her while he’s in college.

The characters were interesting and likeable. The suspense involved a stalker. It was a small part of the story, but it was good. Most of the story is the romantic relationship.

This is book 11 in the series. Other SEALs and their wives are brought into the story for small parts from time to time. I assume their stories were told in previous books. This book is shorter than a typical novel.

As a rule, I like more of her recent action filled romances than her previous sappy romances. I started Night Watch because I wanted to read something light and good, and in that regard, I was not disappointed. In every other regard, I was very disappointed.

Basically, I thought the book was a little bit too crowded by different subplots, and some of them came out underdeveloped, like the one about Dani and Britt’s son Andy. It was an interesting one, don’t get me wrong, but there just wasn’t space for it here, and it got shortchanged. Actually, I would have also cut the suspense subplot, all that thing about the stalker, and concentrated on the Lana-Quinn thing. That one was the most important one, as far as I’m concerned, but it was crowded out by the very unoriginal stalker thingie and didn’t get the air time it deserved.
Don’t get me wrong, I did like this story. But if you’ve got little patience for this particular brand of tortured hero, consider yourself warned. I’m a bit of a sucker for them myself on occasion, even though at times his problems seemed over the top. But Wes is a very likeable guy and worth the effort, though it seems Britt is doomed to a life of reassuring him (it seems she wouldn’t have it any other way). Brittany was more straightforward. She was disarmingly honest and a straight shooter. One thing we’d never have to worry about with this character was some stupid misunderstanding. She tells it like she sees it and insists on honesty.
So what was my problem? Why a “C”? The story was good but failed to draw me in. Usually, once I start a book by the author, I find it hard to concentrate anywhere else until I have turned the last page. Here, I had no such problem. It was good but it was not Ms Brockmann at the top of her game. If it wouldn’t have been the closure to the series, I would have been glad to have given it a miss.
One more thing: “Night Watch?” Suz’s title was much better! “Wild, Wild Wes!” I know the publisher has an eye on the current market, but come on! ALL the books in the series have our hero’s name in the title…until now. And I know publishers are famous for changing perfectly good names, but this is a SERIES! They should have left the name alone!
There’s not a weak story in the 11 book series. Each book can stand on it’s own, but I urge those wanting to read them, to read them in order. Each hero is strong but with a true heart. The heroines are loving women who aren’t afraid to fight for what they want and believe in. Bravo to Ms. Brockmann! Her awards for her writing excellence are with out a doubt well earned. I’m going to miss these remarkable men of SEAL Team Ten and the remarkable women who love them. Since this is the last in the series, I wish we could have a final chapter with all of my favourite men together.

Brittany Evans lässt sich nicht gerne vorschreiben was sie tun soll und dennoch hat sie sich von ihrer Schwester Melody und ihrem Schwager Cowboy zu diesem Blind Date mit Cowboys Seal-Kollegen Wes Skelly ein. Und auch Wes ist nicht minder erfreut, aber was tut man nicht alles für seine Freunde? Umso überraschter sind beide, dass sie sich auf Anhieb leiden können: Sie haben den selben schrägen Humor, sind sich sympatisch und werden schon innerhalb weniger Stunden zu Freunden.

Brittany ist sehr bestimmend. Das äußert sich nicht nur direkt zu beginn des Treffens mit Wes, als sie direkt zwei Grundregeln festlegt (1. Kein Honig um's Maul schmieren, lieber bei der Wahrheit bleiben und 2. es wird keinen Sex geben!), nein, Brittany hatte schon ihre Auftritte in Band vier als ihre kleine Schwester Melody ihren jetzigen Ehemann Cowboy verfällt.
Cowboy selbst lässt ebenfalls keine Wiederworte zu und lebt klar nach seinen eigenen Regeln. Dass er wirklich viel Seelischen Ballast mit sich schleppt schreckt die gute Britt keinesfalls ab. Im Gegenteil: Sie ist da eher der Typ mit Helfersyndrom. Dass sie ihm damit verdammt gut tut und auch mit ihrer Beharrlichkeit bei ihm weiter kommt als manch anderer Mensch ist ihr von Anfang an bewusst, denn immerhin weiß sie auch, dass sein einiger bester Freund gerade seine Schwester geheiratet hat und das keinesfalls einfach sein kann. Wes kann eigentlich gar nicht anders als ihr zu verfallen, wenn da nur nicht seine langjährige unerwiederte Liebe zu der verheirateten Lana wäre ...

Probleme über Probleme, wie ihr sehr, liebe LeserInnen. Von Langeweile kann also keine Rede sein! Ich muss allerdings zugeben, dass ich zu beginn etwas skeptisch war ob Britt und Wes wirklich zusammenpassen, denn Britt bisher immer als toughe Frau auftrat, die definitiv ohne Mann am besten dran ist und Wes ... tja, er war immer der hoffnungslose Fall. Der arme, letzte, unverheiratete Kerl mit den vielen Problemen und der unerwiederten Liebe. Doch ich wurde wirklich schnell eines besseren belehrt und so bietet die Autorin, Suzanne Brockmann, dem Leser genau das was er braucht - zumindest was ich gebraucht habe: Ein Happy End für Wes Skelly.

In Herzensangelegenheiten sind sie beide nicht sehr bewandt und dennoch schaffen sie irgendwie zueinander zu finden. Natürlich bleibt ihr Zusammensein nicht immer ganz ungefährlich, denn es gibt da noch den Job, den Wes in L.A. bei Lanas berühnten Schwester zu erledigen hat ... und die Folgen haben es echt in sich. Mein lieber Herr Navy Seal.

Suzanne Brockmanns Herzblut ist definitiv bei mir angekommen! Dieses Buch fesselt bis zu letzten Seite und lässt den Leser emotional einfach nicht mehr los.

Ich werde die Navy Seals der Operation Heartbreaker vermissen. Diese nicht perfekten perfekten Männer, diese Supermänner die keine Supermänner sind. (less)

Wes is pretty sure they aren't suited because he's been nursing a years-long unrequited love for Lana, who is married to yet another SEAL. Brittany is aware of Wes' love for Lana and is sympathetic and offers him lots of good advice.

But in the meantime they spend a lot of time together until they begin to become sexually interested in each other and give into the inevitable. And then Brittany does the unthinkable, she falls in love with an emotionally unavailable guy.

I liked how SB handled the two main conflicts of the relationship. The biggest conflict, especially from Brittany's end, was Wes' love for Lana. She knew about it and still couldn't help herself. This made for some nicely nuanced romantic angst. The other conflict, mostly from Wes' end was his inability to allow himself to really connect with someone. He has major abandonment and guilt issues when it comes to people he loves because of the death of his younger brother.

The reader can tell he is falling in love with Brittany, but both of them are blind. Brittany because she believes he is so in love with Lana and Wes because he is in denial and still believes that Britt just thinks of him as a great guy.

I also thought SB gave wonderful texture to Wes' character, his height issues, how he uses crutches such as smoking and sometimes alcohol to allow himself to say what he wants or feel what he wants. He had so many inner pockets to his personality it made for a great, fascinating character.

Brittany was more straightforward. She was disarmingly honest and a straight shooter. One thing we'd never have to worry about with this character was some stupid mis-understanding. She tells it like she sees it and insists on honesty. I enjoyed the small subplot with her son and his girlfriend. It added absolutely nothing to the main plot but was a nice additive to the story to give Brittany's life a little depth.

Good book. Reminds me again what a natural storyteller SB is.(less)

Wes Skelly is a Navy Seal and a man biding his time, waiting for the woman that he loves to finally wake up and see that her husband is cheating on her. He has been in love with one of the other Seal's wife for years, but hasn't acted on his feelings. But he hasn't told her what is going on either. So, to help out a friend he is set up on a date with the sister of another Seal's wife. He has met her before, but there wasn't much to that first meeting, but what the heck, he'll give it a try and spend some time with a pretty woman.

Wes finds that Brittany is a careing and supportive Mother. That is something that he didn't get a lot of at home when he was her son's age. She is also funny and fun. They spend a nice evening together and he ends up spending the night at her apartment after a Credit Card problem. As he gets to know her more and gets to know her son he has a lot of respect for her. And as the story progress's she becomes more and more attractive to him.

Wes is not what Brittany thought he would be. He is much shorter and smaller than she thought he would be. But he is a lot of fun and they get along really well. She likes the way that he interacts with her son Andy, and Andy seems to like and trust him right away.

As the progress's Britttany and Wes become close friends and find themselves growing more and more attracted to each other. When Andy goes off on a trip with his team they find they can't fight the attraction any longer and start a romantic fling. Both of them feel that the relationship will have to end eventually, but though they won't admit it to each other they are finding it harder and harder to not fall in love. When Brittany is held by a crazed stalker Wes will do anything he needs to to save her and in the end admits his feelings to himself and to her.

This is a sweet and fun story that is an easy read. I give this one 4 out of 5 stars. (less)

This is more like a 3 3/4 stars. Suzanne Brockmann's last Tall Dark and Dangerous title is one of my favorite. Her leading man is not the typical, classic hero but the reader along with her leading lady can't help but fall for Wes Skelly. Smaller than most Navy Seal, Skelly wears his insecurities on his sleeve, like his heart. Brockmann succeeds in making her believe in the loyal but misguided love Wes has for the wife of one of his Seal buddy. This unrequired love has gone on for years.

(4 1/2, but I'll round up) I really, really liked Wes and Brittany's story. For much of the series, Wes wasn't much of a character, just the shorter, mouthier half of Bobby and Wes. He really comes to life in this last book, though. I loved that he had so many realistic flaws, yet made a real effort to improve himself. This was another good book by Suzanne. I love the way she writes. The dialog, everything flows so smoothly, and this one just like the others in the series are books you can sit down with and don't want to put down. I find myself up reading at 2am and have to stretch and blink rapidly as I return to the real world after reading for so long. I enjoyed this one. After finishing Taylor's Temptation aka Bobby's story, I had to find out how Wes got his girl. It was always Wes and Bobby but since Bobby is taken, Wes sort of felt like he was on his own and we couldn't have that. ;-)

More like 2.5 stars. I really liked this book. It had much more substance than bobby Taylor's book which was not well written. This book is Wes Skelly's story. He is the SEAL who is height challenged (based on the authors weird infatuation with his height and his oppositional appearance over his BUDS mate and the other SEALS who all seem to be 6'4 & 230lbs. & georgeous). Last book in the series and I thought it was a greast finish. They had been building up to Wes for the last few books and his history just made him a terrifically angst ridden hero needing salvation through the love of the right woman. And Brittany was the perfect woman...she knew how to handle his personality from her relationship with Andy and was prepared for the defenses he would put up. This book was a quick read just for pure escapism. There was a bit of a surprise towards the end of the book, but true to Brookman's style, the hero saves the day (I'm a sucker for a happy ending)and the buff navy SEALS don't hurt the imagination either. There really wasn't much to the story compared to Brockman's Troubleshooter series, and some more background on the adoptive son's history would have been nice, as well as a more developed relationship with him and the "chief". I did not like Wes until this book. In fact, I didn't know that this book was about Wes and that was the only reason I started it. In other books Wes is the character you just want to hit on the back of the head. He smokes, he swears, he's not tall and he seems like he has a short-man complex. He was all that in this book but way more adorable. In fact, by the end of the book, I was rooting for Wes. And this is why I love Suzanne Brockmann, her men are real (or as real as they can get on paper)....more

This was a really good book and the first I have read from her. I liked the romance and the truth and even the suspense scenes but it was just a typical romance book with that one suspenseful scene at the end. Book #11 - Night Watch

Imagine my utter shock, disappointment and heartache when I realised this was the last book of the series...It nearly had me in tears...I took extra long with this book, but still read it finished with a day or two...

It had a “Friends with benefits” thing going on – which always leads to feelings...

I really liked the phone conversation between Britt and Wes when the lunatic was in her flat with her. Really clever! (It made me think...)

This may have been my favorite of the Tall, Dark and Deadly series. Like many other readers, I wasn't a fan of Wes throughout the series. He seemed like a loose cannon, and to me he was just an egotistical, foul-mouthed, opinionated, friend of Bobby's. But at the end of "Bobby's Temptation", I felt bad for the guy. One of Brockmann's older books, the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series. It's okay, especially for a category romance. Navy SEAL Wes Skelly and Brittany Evans have been set up on a blind date. While it wasn’t as great as some of the other titles in this series, I still really enjoyed the book. If there’s anything Suzanne Brockmann does well, it’s make a good human hero that we can all love.
Brittany is a good match for Wes, since he has all kinds of “stray puppy” issues, while she is a nurturer. Again, not as hot a couple as some of the others Seals, but still a fun story I’d recommend to my readers.

Out of all of the TDD series, I liked this one the most, simply for the fact that it had more of a TS feel. Suzanne's humor leaked through in this, and Wes, and all of his flaws, made it seem so much more real. I really, really hope this isn't an indication of what's to come for the TS series though. She says she's taking a break... She says she'll be back... God I hope so! Lopez needs his story told!

Pretty much your standard Harlequin romance.... very formulaic. The writing was decent and the characters likeable. If you're looking for a HEA romance, this one would cover it. (So decent, but ultimately too much like all the rest of that genre to be memorable or reread... ie- a good brain candy/beach read).

Ummmm...yea, another cheesy one, but what the heck it's summertime. I promise the next book I am reading is educational! By the way, my cover is way better!!!!! You can't help but like Wes Skelly, great guy, big heart, and able to get out of any situation (does anyone remember MacGyver in the early years?)

Once again, I have managed to erase an entire review. It makes me so angry when it happens that I don't even want to rewrite it.

Therefore, I loved this book. Period. The characters were flawed and had lots of emotional and situational issues. Hopefully others have written more detailed reviews.

My grade: B+. Or A-. I love Suzanne Brockmann, and I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The characters are altogether engaging and admirable. We had just enough of Wes's hopeless love for his friend's wife without it getting ridiculous. The ending got quite exciting. One of the good ones.

My favorite military series so far!! I read these books so fast and had to keep going to the book store to buy the next one because I just couldn't wait to read it. Lots of suspense and romance!
