Looking forward to the movie. The first book in the series is amazingly imaginative, with pretty good action throughout, though slower paced than some of the others? (Can't remember all of them :) Just started the second book, "A Fighting Man of Mars," which is bound together with "A Princess of Mars" in this volume.
I love it when sci fi writers predict future inventions. For example, a throwaway line in the second book predicts xerox copies: "By an ingen More...

There is no doubt that Edgar Rice Burroughs was well ahead of his time. I read this series as a teenager over 3o years ago and still go back to it again and again every few years. This series is wonderful and exciting no matter what age you are. My son is reading it now and he loves it.

Excellent two volume edition (though overpriced) of the first two books of Edgar Rice Burroughs' fabled Warlord of Mars series, soon to be made into a series of movies as well. I first read these stories as a teen in the 1970s, and have just been reading them to my teen age son lately.

I loved it! It was published 100 years ago and set the stage for sci-fi today. Go read it! It's being made into a movie soon.

I read these (extracurricular) in high school and enjoyed being transported to such a vivid imaginary world.

When it comes to literary pulp fiction you just can't beat ERB. The tales of John Carter are such a prize. This has been a read aloud book for my daughter and I and we are both eager to see every twist and turn of Carter's adventures on Mars.

Good chewing gum for the mind. The John Carter stories are a good romp through a fantastical Mars. The stories have added depth since they are allegory about Western Civilization's ills.

John Carter goes to sleep on Earth and wakes up on Mars. He has to adjust during his adventures.
