This is the story of a man with a dream--as well as the vision and passion to make it come true. The dream was to build a great American links course, one that would contain all the excitement of the famous golfing destinations in Scotland and Ireland, storied places like St. Andrews and Ballybunion. Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes is about the concept behind, and building of three courses on the southern Oregon coast at Bandon which have pretty much unprecedentedly become some of the best in the country. I was working in golf up in Oregon (at Sunriver Resort) while they were being built, but have never had the opportunity to get down there and have a look. Two of the courses nestle up to the beach, and are as true links-style courses as it's possible to make here. I'm fascinated by t...more

This is only for golf addicts. This book is a nonfiction account of the creation of Bandon Dunes Golf Course (and to a lesser degree, its sister courses Pacific Dunes and Bandon Trails), a course located on the Oregon shore in a remote part of the West Coast. The course was opened about eight years ago, and is considered one of the top golf courses in the world. The book is part character portrait of Mike Keiser (a multimillionaire and golf fan who wanted to build a links-style golf course), a...more

very cool book...quite in-deth about Mike Keiser (founder of BANDON DUNES GOLF RESORT) . I understood all of the jargon and terms used in the book, as I too am in the golf business. I could see someone losing interest in the book quickly if they don't share the passion of golf. Even I found myself getting a little bored with it at times...I will say that after reading about Bandon Dunes, I wish I would have went there instead of Kiawah to do what I do now...I'm confident that Bandon is the best...more

Mike Keiser (CEO of Recycled Greeting Cards - 3rd Largest Greeting Card company in the world behind Hallmark and American Greeting) developed, designed and opened the Bandon Dunes Golf link-style courses in Oregon. Details his passion for golf, course design, and gilf history. Tracks how the dream came together - from the rsiky purchase of the land to the opening. Gets a little detailed on the design piece - but a great read none the less.

Definitely a cool book about a place I want to see - I'd love to see a followup on Pac Dunes, but the whole story of Keiser (unfortunately a Lord Jeff) and his dogged pursuit of making his dream come true is inspirational. Plug, plug, plug away and you'll be rewarded. (OBAMA!!!)
