Homeboys by Alan Lawrence Sitomer was a great book about "gang banging" in California. The streets were broken up into two gangs one called the Merks and the other 0-1-0's. This is compelling, addicting, and very engaging and I really didn't expect it to be. I picked it up at the library over a month ago just because I liked the cover. I read homeboyz a while ago and I really enjoyed the book it was very thrilling, I was constantly reading about the theme retaliations and the life of a thug the book was thrilling and always has you guessing.

I think that in life, during bad times, people depend on each other to help them get through their problems. I think that not only do people need someone to open up to, to get their bottled feeling out to, but I think that people need someone who understands them, and can relate to their problems.

I thought that this was good story, the plot and overall message of this story was very inspiring and I thought it taught a good lesson. Homeboyz is one of the best books i've ever read. Teddy's sister, Tina, just got shot in a drive by shooting, and his family isn't doing to well. His mother sits in her room all day and doesn't say a word. His father doesn't say much either, he leaves dinner on the table and goes straight to bed after work. This was a YAL quick pick book, and one that is based on the modern language and actions of underprivledged teens living amongst gangs and street violence. This book is very insighful, it expresses how real life is once your in jail. With urban characters like teddy, that ends up jail,then uses his prior knowledge with technologoy to try to escape,with characters that sell drugs on the street,with fight scenes and explicit dialogue.
