Beth Moore s newest Bible study is Esther: It s Tough Being a Woman. Esther may have been a queen, but her life was no fairy tale. An outsider, a foreigner, and an orphan, she found herself facing an evil plan to destroy her people. And you thought your life was hard! The Old Testament story of Esther is a profile in courage and contains many modern parallels for today's o...more

Two caveats: I am not a Beth Moore fan. Furthermore, I do not fit comfortably into her intended audience.

The positives: It is clear that Beth Moore has really done her homework. I think she does a very good job of getting her readers to slow down as they read the book of Esther, and encouraging them to enter into the text imaginatively. She is also likeable and personable on screen which matters because her video presentations are integral to the way her studies are designed.

The negatives...more

I know a lot of Christian women really love Beth Moore and her studies. This was my first exposure to one of her studies. I was trying to keep an open mind about the whole experience, but at the same time also trying to figure out what all the hype was about.

My first impression of this study after doing week one with our small group was that Beth Moore seems to have discovered a formula that she feels works and written yet another study. The way it reads and the workbook itself feels ...more

This was my first Beth Moore study and I plan on revisiting this again in March, but I was struck by how powerful and yet humbling this study is.

It is a reminder that as women, we have multiple roles that we play and often times, sometimes high, sometimes low, but through it all, there is a power to allowing us, something we don't often allow ourselves, time.

It was a reminder of not allowing our physical wants or circumstances to steer our decisions and for me, a female v...more

Wow, where do I begin with this review? I absolutely loved this study. It had moments where I wasn't sure how any of my life could ever take on "Esther-like challenges", but then I really began to understand Beth's approach. Of course I can! Esther's purpose in the bible is still quite a mystery. The only book that never mentions God a single time. The only book of the bible where it's protagonist isn't mention at the beginning or the end, but carries the title of the book. Simp...more

I read this book as part of the Beth Moore It's Tough Being a Woman Bible Study offered by the Ladies Bible Study group at my church in the spring of 09. I really enjoyed learning about the book of Esther. I felt I learned a lot about the book and about being a woman. The problem I have with Beth Moore's studies are that she puts too much of herself in the book and she doesn't really allow us to find the answers ourselves. Searching for answers, imo, helps us to learn more. While I did learn...more

I finished the book on the very day Jews around the world celebrate Purim. I loved so much about this study. It really helped bring the story to life for me so I could see myself in it. I never thought, "If I perish, I perish" would become one of my favorite parts of Scripture, but now I can look fear in the eyes and put on the courage Christ offers. Thank you, Beth, for journeying with ME!

This was the best Bible Study I have ever read. Beth Moore is an amazing teacher. Her examples and sense of humor allows you to retain the info with such clarity. This was not the first time I have read the book of Esther but it is the first time I have understood exactly why it was included in the Bible and what God was saying through it. I cannot wait to read more of Beth Moore.

I recently finished this bible study with one of my best friends and a group of ladies from my church. It was AMAZING! I got so wrapped up in the way Beth brings to light every single detail. My husband told me I liked it so much because “It’s just a big biblical soap opera.”

“God’s name may not be written in it, but it’s written ALL OVER IT!” -BM

This was the first Beth Moore bible study I have done. I really enjoyed it. IT was amazing to me that the book of Ester is so short but Beth Moore could do an 11 week study on it!!! It was very powerful as a woman and helped me to realize it IS tough being a woman. I will DEFINITELY do another Beth Moore study.

I love the book of Esther! I had already done one Esther study (from the Coffee Cup bible study series). Beth Moore is awesome and had so many different points and interesting views that I would recommend either study to anyone new or familiar with the book of Esther.

It was good. I'm not in love with Beth Moore, but I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars because I think some of the discussion questions aren't that great. There were a few highlights that I've taken with me for other Bible studies though.

After I got used to her very feminine (but tough), Southern style - and the format of the writing - I found this incredibly encouraging, educational and pleasantly challenging. And funny! Esther is a powerful book!
Karen
Great insight into this seemingly obscure Old Testament book. Fascinating! (Though B. Moore often uses more words than she needs to make her point when she writes...I still think she has a gift for teaching.)
Becky
This was my second Beth Moore study and it was great! It's not just about the actual study, but about the accompanying DVD that goes with it. I love listening to Beth Moore. Well worth the 9 weeks!!
Emmie
A wonderful in depth look into the book of Esther and the wonder of divine providence. At times it did seem a bit confusing, but over all a great study into the Word of God.
