I was having a little difficulty deciding on 3 or 4 stars for this book. I leaned towards the four because, for me it was an easy and fast read. Once I reached the middle of the book, I finished the rest in almost one sitting, and the whole book in a 24 hour period. It kept my interest and I like the ghost/psychic angle.
I also liked Joe, Leslie, Nikki, and Adam. I did care what happened to them and for me, the action moved pretty fast. I wish Adam and Nikki would have been developed more and ha...more

I made it about 80% through this book and gave up. That's pretty sad. I couldn't even hold on for the end. I know Heather Graham can write some really good shivery ghost stories, but this isn't one of them.
So Leslie can "feel/see/communicate" with ghosts, but she obtains this skill after her fiance is killed in an explosion at a gala at a historical house in New York City. She works on archeological finds, communicating with ghosts on site that no one but her can see, to find bones and treasures...more

The first word that comes to mind when describing this book is average. I wanted to read The Death Dealer per a friend recommendation and realized that it was the sequel to The Dead Room. For me, that meant The Dead Room had to come first. The book tells the tale of a female archaeologist named Leslie who recently lost her fiance and afterwards became able to communicate with the dead. Due to this ability, Leslie becomes swept into the investigation of a series of disappearances which she believ...more
Spooky cellars, ghosts, a historic house, handsome hero and exciting ending. This story had these elements and more. A good way to spend reading time.
However, just a few minor things bothered my enjoyment...may contain spoilers...Leslie kept wanting to see her dead boyfriend Matt. Almost every other page she would feel a presence and think it was him. Finally, when she did talk with him, she chose to ignore his warnings. How stupid can you be? And she constantly walked into danger.

Heather Graham books are things I seem to periodically revisit ... I'm always sure I'm going to like them more than I do. They're generally entertaining, but not what I'd call riveting, and The Dead Room was no different. The concept that the main character survives a deadly accident (her fiance does not), only to realize she can communicate with ghosts is certainly an interesting one, but I just never felt the tension I know Graham was trying for. And I felt like the ending was frustrating, but...more
UNPUTDOWNABLE!!!
I had a major hard time putting down this book. Last night, after my hubby went to bed, I was somewhere between halfway and 2/3's of the way through the book. Every time I purposely put it down so that I could go to bed, knowing I was getting up early with 5 kids to watch, my mind 'objected' and I had no choice but to pick it back up. Going to bed not knowing what was going to happen bugged the daylights out of me!

This book was okay. I think it would have been better with a few less characters. I was having trouble keeping Ken straight from Robert, Hank, Brad, Joe... all these men who all seemed interested in Leslie. She must be a supermodel or something. The story itself was interesting, though the ending was a little "movie of the week," with the villian even saying things like "Of course it was me!" and detailing all the reasons it was easy for him to commit the crimes.

OMG, this was an excellent book! I could not put this one down. It kept me on the edge of my seat guessing and wondering. I kept changing my mind who the killer was. You have to like the paranormal kind of stuff, not that it got way out there but the girl does talk to ghosts. She's an archeologist and the ghosts help her find their bones. It's just a wonderful book that kept me on my toes. Suspense, murder, mystery a touch of romance, some paranormal activity, my kind of book!
I have sort of mixed feelings about this book. It started out shaky for me — the first time Leslie sat in a room and had a conversation with a ghost, I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes — but eventually it grew on me. Since I have no problem reading books with vampires and werewolves and witches, it’s a little strange to me that I would have that reaction about ghosts, but I think it’s because those other types of characters can interact with everyone, and not just select people. An easy read. The "dream" scenes were a little silly to me. Matt can't manage to do a whole lot of anything when Leslie is awake, yet in her dreams he sweats, gets very physical and carries on complete conversations. I have very vivid dreams but never this vivid. Also, he couldn't leave the house but suddenly he saves her on the subway tracks? I did enjoy reading it. I felt that it ended abruptly but then I read there is a sequel.
It sounded like an interesting premise ... but I can't say anything good about it. The "sex scenes" with Matt, the ghost, were dumb. Joe, the cousin, was drab. I didn't care about Leslie at all. I didn't like the writing. To be honest, I didn't care who "dunnit" ... I just wanted to be finished. I saw the happy ending coming ... dumb dumb dumb!
This was the first book I've read by Graham and I won't be reading any others.

HG did it yet again it was a fantstic book. I loved the whole thing right up til the end, but then I have a love/hate relationship with the ending. It was so sad and I wanted to scream noooo!!!! But then again I was happy at the same time because it felt like it really was fated to be. I was crying at the end of this book and I truly loved this story! Anything that can be so well done that I wind up in love/ hateing it is completely awesome!

There are times when I want a book in a hurry, perhaps from a Target, Walmart, store. Selections are limited, she is popular, and an ok read. Most of the times I would give her a three, but this book is dreadful. I found myself skiping every other chapter and not missing a thing. Towards the end I skipped two chapters at a time. Still, I would probably choose her again depending on what is available.
Nice little mystery with a relatively unexpected ending. (I'm not referring to who the 'bad-man' was either.) The romance was very light on - don't read it expecting any... (view spoiler)
Audiobook: Narrated by Joyce Bean (4 stars)
Again our narrator did not disappoint me. She did a good job of separating out the characters, smoothly verbalising the story.

I didn't know this was part of a series when I downloaded from the library. I wish I did because I definately would have read them in order.
I have always enjoyed Ms. Graham's style of suspense and The Dead Room did not disappoint. Loved the characters and can't wait to pick up the first three books in the series.
But the ending...sigh, the ending...it completely took me by surprise. I think the longer I'm away from the story, the more I'll appreciate it.

I enjoyed this, but it was a tad repetitive with the interactions of Matt and Leslie. There was also some believabilty issues once we find out who done it. I wanted to see more about how the killer operated. He wasn't really and entity until the end and even then there wasn't much said about the character.
