1000 PLACES TO SEE IN THE USA AND CANADA BEFORE YOU DIE BY PATRICIA SCHULTZ: When travel writer Patricia Schultz published 1000 Places to See Before You Die on May 22nd, 2003, she expected the book to do relatively well like her other travel writings. She has written for Frommer’s, Berlitz, and Access travel guides, and has published articles in Condé Nast Traveler, Islands, and Harper’s Bazaar: a fairly accomplished travel writer in her field. This was the general idea for bookstores als...more

I love travel lists, and I loved this book. It's especially great if you have unlimited money, because it emphasizes expensive spas, hotels, and restaurants. I don't have unlimited money, but I still loved this book.

The first thing I do when I pick up a book like this is look to see if the things I know for a fact are accurate. Since I was born and raised in Minnesota, that was the first place I checked. My theory being - if her writing on Minnesota is good and accurate, I can trust her writing on other locations. Her writing on Minnesota was astounding! I would give her an A for what she chose to write about, how she wrote it, and the accuracy of the information. I then found the rest of the book a deli...more

This is not a reading book. This is a browse through and dream with your loved ones then keep in the car and stop and see something on your next trip book. We've already used ours to see Carlsbad Caverns and Ojo Caliente hot springs in Santa Fe and Byrce and Zion National Parks, it even recommended trails. I hope to one day work up to the world version. If you always mean to stop and see something on the way to grandma's and never do it try this book as a way to motivate and take the fear out. I...more

Some good suggestions here, but obviously stretching to reach the 1,000 mark. I mean, really, the "Great American Beer Festival"? So many hotels and resorts are listed that it seems like the author must have gotten some perks along the way. Sorry, but some la-di-dah resort with pretty landscaping is not a world classic that I have to see before I die.
Also, it is irritatingly organized by region (Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, etc) rather than alphabetically by state or provinc...more

My husband and I have really enjoyed going through this book. We have discovered lots of places and events that we would love to go visit. I think this is a great book to get some ideas and then do some more research on the places in more detailed books. After going through this book we actually feel like maybe there is a reason to got to South and North Dakota after all! :-)

I was so excited when I saw this at the bookstore! I am obsessed with the world edition so I of course had to buy this one. I like to visit and read about more exotic places than the US and Canada but this has lots of fun places close to home.

I love to travel and these books give you great ideas. They also tell you enough about a place that you can decide if you want to visit. I use them for ideas and then do additional research before the trip.

Rich, amber-colored bourbon, a kind of whiskey distilled almost exclusively in Kentucky distilleries, is the intoxicating product of native corn and local limestone-rich springs.

I just bought this book so that we could plan a vacation that takes us in a circle around part of the United States. I think it will be fun with all the kids.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He has three little kids and I thought it would help him and his wife to plan family trips not too far from home.

I almost panicked when this edition came out b/c I hadn't made it to the first thousand. But I'm slowly working on this too...

Not sure it was meant to be a cover-to-cover read but I love it! Great to read while on vacation.

There's world enough. If only there were time. So many spots I'd never even heard of!
