Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks
Wealth, privilege, and way too many pastel-tinted opinions...that's Carly's life. And guess what? It's. Getting. On. Her. Nerves.
Carly wants to be real, and she's always counted on her little sister, Anna, to lover her and support her—and tell her how right she is. But when Anna turns "hot" over the course of a single summer, everything goes weird. Suddenly Anna's swimming...more

My whole "relationship" with the main character was strange. I liked her, then I got annoyed, then mad, then annoyed again, then I finally liked her again (but not as much as I first did). At the very beginning I had great hope for her. Carly seemed to have it right. The very beginning of the book opens with Carly writing a letter to her sister Anna and I could totally understand what she was trying to say. I could relate to the exact feelings that she was describing. A few more pages into the...more
Myracle's previous book, Bliss didn't do it for me, but this one is a good read I can honestly recommend to my students.
The sisterly relationship in the book feels real, much like the relationship in Laura and Amy did: there are good things, and bad things, about being/having a sister. It's also good at showing how relationships between friends change, and how people change as they grow. The only thing that didn't ring entirely true was the boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, but that's not somet...more

This book got two whole stars because Vonzelle was awesome, Roger was reasonably cool(view spoiler), and there were literal baby ducks. I like baby ducks.
Other than that, this book was generally unimpressive. I have a certain amount of sympathy for the Moody Teenager character, because I have very clear recollections of how perpetually dissatisfied and upset with everything I was as a teen - I mean, I'm one of the few peopl...more

I have a pet peeve, a horrible pet peeve worse than steak knives scratching glass plates or people who think grammar is irrelevant as long as u r totes awsom. That pet peeve is whiners, babies, and complaining of any form. It isn't so bad that I set the book down when she got annoyed with Peyton's hairy leg humour. I read through the first day of school, even. Storming out in the middle of dinner over an insensative comment from your father is stupid. Storming out in the middle of dinner is path...more
Sigh.
Lauren Myracle should stop writing books.
I mean, I did enjoy her Winnie books, mostly because when I was eleven, I read eleven, and so on, and she carried me through my tween years and had a lot of the same issues I was faced with. I will always appreciate her for that.
But I feel she has really said everything she has to say, as far as I can tell. Many many times.
And guess what?

Baby sister isn’t the baby anymore.
The Long of It
Carly, the older sister by one year, returns from her summer trip helping the environment. Her parents might secretly think she’s a hippie or cause seeker. Upon her return, her newest decision was to stop shaving her legs. Anna is entirely opposite. Even though she’s younger only by one year, she’s definitely the baby and princess in the family. Anna also fits in with the country club lifestyle that their parents provide (Carly snub...more

Peace Love & Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle tells the story of two sisters. Carly is a year older than Anna, but they have always been best friends. Carly feels this need to always take care of Anna and make sure that she is protected.

I just recently had the privilege of reading the book, Peace, Love and Baby Ducks- it was a very well written and colorful book! Peace, Love and Baby Ducks, written by Lauren Myracle, is based in modern times America in the state of Georgia. One of the sisters, Carly, goes away for the whole summer. When she returns her sister, Anna, who will be joining Holy Redeemer, Carly's school, has gone from not so pretty and invisible to beautiful and popular over only one summer. Now Carly has to start wa...more
The bad news escalates quickly in this high school candy romance. Nothing too traumatic, but it made me thankful that my family isn’t so dysfunctional as the Lauderdales.
Myracle keeps the story moving with her strong direct writing. And she sets up some interesting subplots – the morals and machinations of a fundamental Christian private school; life as a super-rich teen with overbearing power parents; the perils of veering from social norms.
But it all takes a backseat to boys, boys, boys. And...more

Friends, family, and identity. Carly is a sophomore at an elite prep school for Atlanta's royalty who is trying to figure out how she can be authentic, which means being different than everyone around her and standing up to all the pressure from her parents and peers. She also wants to be a good older sister, find good friends, and locate herself an "ironic love boodle." So she must negotiate some very murky waters in her attempts to rebel against the norms that her loved ones embrace. I enjoyed...more

One thing this book has going for it is the cover. I don't know why but I really like the cover. And the title also. It pretty much sums up the book because there is peace, there is love and yes there is also baby ducks. Actually I find the cover to be one of the reasons why I picked up this book in the first place. I think it's because it's a really simple but really effective cover.

Review: I loved this book and sucked it down in one night of self-abandoned reading. (I even skipped watching the Gossip Girl season premiere (for shame) to read this book.)
Is that not enough enticement of how awesome this book is?
I'm afraid that anything I write won't be truly awesome and it'll make you think that the book isn't completely awesome, and that would be (for shame) too bad. I'm half-tempted to just repost the fantastic review of this book from the (fantastic) blog Forever...more

Yes, this is one of those books where the girl likes the wrong boy, eventually figures it out, and then also figures out that the right boy was there all along. It's nothing that shocking or revolutionary. But still, it's rather sweet, especially with the addition of all the sister drama. It's hard, being jealous of your sister: you still love her, and want good things for her, but there's a tiny part of you that wants even better things for yourself. The "why me?"s can be overwhelming. So thoug...more
I just love Lauren Myracle's writing. It's so humorous and fun, I can never be disappointed by her. This book made me believe this even more. What drew me in, in the first place, was the title. Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks.... it sounded kind of.. exotic? I read the back cover and decided to get it, because, well, it was by Lauren Myracle.

Carly has just returned from a summer camp experience in the hills of Tennessee where she was exposed to music from the 60s, tie-dye shirts, and long skirts with bangles on the bottom. Returning home to Atlanta, she's a different person than she was before and doesn't fit the mold of the community surrounding her: an extremely wealthy family & a private southern school. She dyes her hair and cuts it short (a disaster, even in her mind), she wears her new batiks and tie-dyes and challenges th...more
Carly comes home from her summer internship (building and maintaining hiking trails) ready to take on the world, but all she finds is that her little sister, Anna, has grown up (developed into serious babe material), she and her best friend Peyton have grown apart, and pretty much everyone is disgusted by how much leg hair she’s grown while she was away. Carly doesn’t want to be just another one of the rich, privileged kids who goes to her Catholic high school, but she’s having trouble distingui...more
Having been accustomed to Myracle's Instant Messaging style of writing, it's a bit unsettling reading a grammatically correct and structured novel. It still retains the normal growing up, adolescent angst, combined with a serious look into the depths of sisterhood. I wished the characters could have been more real, rounded, and developed though. Like the parents, for instance. At points, they were so oblivious and wooden that I didn't even know if they were real or not. They were just there to c...more
I saw Lauren Myracle speak at CAL this year, and I would say two words really define her: awesome and spitfire. So I was pleased to see that these words also defined her heroine, Carly. Although Carly did get annoying at times to me as an adult, she also felt refreshingly real, and was full of all of the inconsistencies and conflicting motives that being a teen is all about.
I also loved reading about the dynamic of the sister relationship. I am an only child, and my boyfriend is not. He never s...more

This story follows Carly and her attempt to be real in a world where pink toe nails, hair extensions and wearing the right make-up rule the day. But more than that, this story is about the relationship between sisters. The love, the anger, the tears, the laughter that come from the deep connection that is developed over the years.

I understand what the author is trying to say in this book, but the plot isn't complex and it looks like Lauren Myracle stayed very safely in her comfort zone when telling this story. In this book the main character Carly, was always the "better" person, but suddenly she is replaced by her sister, Anna. This could have been a great book, but Anna wasn't a strong character. I think that if I got a glimpse into their lives before Anna became the more appreciated sister it would have been a better...more
I had really high hopes for this book. I’d read an interview on another author’s blog with Lauren Myracle and she talked about setting her books in Atlanta because she grew up here. I thought this would be a refreshing change from reading books set in NYC or LA. Well, it wasn’t much of a change. I guess it was just equal opportunity because all this book proved is that you don’t have to live in NYC or LA to be a rich, vapid mean-girl. The book was set in Buckhead which should have been sign #1 t...more
Despite the author Lauren Myracle being immensely popular among my middle school girls, I hadn't actually read anything by her until now. Now, I get the appeal! Carly and her younger sister Anna have always been pretty good friends, even though they are very different (Carly is more of a free-spirit hippie and Anna is more of a fashionista). But now that Anna is in high school and over the summer, developed -- GASP!-- pretty big breasts, they've started to drift apart. Friendship drama, a touch...more
This book is about a girl named Carly. She has a younger sister Anna who is more developed. they both go to the some school. But when Anna thinks that she is more like Carly, like doing the wrong thing, Carly's life goes upside down. The guy she likes now likes her sister. how will that be resolved?

Lauren Myracle just gets better and better! I've always liked her writing, and have read most of her stuff just b/c she's local and I've met her and she's such a cool person. But this is her best yet! Carly and Anna are sisters - just one year apart and very close. Carly has always been the leader, the cool one, the center of attention, and the protector of her baby sister. The summer of her sophomore year in high school, Carly goes out of state to clear trails at a national park in Tennessee. W...more
To be honest I bought this book mainly due to its title. I thought is was pretty adorable and figured there had to be a cute story inside. Don't get me wrong, I had actually heard of the book before, and had read a review on another blog (Unfortunately, I don't remember whose) so I wasn't going in completely blind.

Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks is a story about individuality, family, sisters, and growing up. There were times where I found myself having trouble getting through this and I thought the plot was pretty predictable. Why such a high rating then? Because I loved the characters. The reason i read this book was because I read the first page in the book. The first page wasn't the very begining of the story and from what i read, I needed to read more than that first page. It just proves that the begginings of books need to be made intruiging so that people want to read more.

This was my first Lauren Myracle and while I enjoyed it overall, I wish I could give the first half three stars and the second half two. I am a sucker for sister stories, half the reason I read this book, but I felt a bit mislead. The plot/dust jacket leads you to believe that it's about Carly feeling rejected by her little sister Anna when they start high school and Anna becomes popular, but the story didn't really go in that direction at all. It's more about Carly ignoring Anna when Anna needs...more
There is a lot going on in Peace, Love and Baby Ducks but Myracle makes it all fit. The sibling relationship between Carly and Anna is relatable for anyone who has felt need the need to be a unique person mixed with the comfort of having someone who gets you because you grew up together. Every reader will understand Carly's desire to express her individuality. The romance is just enough of the story to be enjoyable without overshadowing the rest of the story. Myracle even brings in religion - Ca...more
