Meg Cabot did a really good job with all the princess books, well in my opinion she did. I really enjoyed reading this book. Princess in love...obviously this is a book about a girl, Mia who likes a guy. Mia has a boyfriend which she doesn't really like because she's got a guy in her heart who only thinks of her as a kid. She spends her time becoming a princess, living in genovia, and dealing with a widowed mother who's going out with her algebra teacher. This book was so...nice. The storyline was fairly good and I enjoyed very much what happened throughout the book. Mia is a pretty...annoying voice to read, mainly because she's a fifteen year old girl confused about love... and also because she's the heir of a country. What really made me enjoy the book much more were the final pages. They had me laughing and in some parts, my heart was pounding to see what would happen. Having just started classes, I wasn't really planning on reading much outside of school and these books weren't high on my to-read list. Shortly after starting school a friend of mine mentioned she was reading these books on her blog. Since December when Dan got me a PRS (Portable Reading System), or eBook reader, I found the ABQ Digital Library and have been checking out digital copies of some books I've been interested in. Having just started classes, I wasn't really planning on reading much outside of school and these books weren't high on my to-read list. Shortly after starting school a friend of mine mentioned she was reading these books on her blog. Since December when Dan got me a PRS (Portable Reading System), or eBook reader, I found the ABQ Digital Library and have been checking out digital copies of some books I've been interested in. The formats available range from eBooks to audio books and while the checkout time is a week less than you'd get from the library this isn't a big issue since I frequently have books read, if not returned, long before they are due. Having said this I found that Meg Cabot had a couple of eBooks available online and having read them before school started I was interested in actually reading the Princess Diaries books (I loved the movies). In other words, my friend's interest in them fuelled my own. I looked online and sure enough they were available as audio books (no eBooks available). I figured these would be great because I could listen to them on my computer and get other things done. Yay!

I checked out the first two. Joy of joys they were narrated by Anne Hathaway which made listening to them almost like watching the movies (though if you've both read and seen you'll know they have vast differences, but the narration helps to bridge the gaps). The first problem I ran is that as I was listening to them I found that if I was concentrating on anything, such as indexing for FamilySearch or working on homework, then I missed a lot because I couldn't focus on the narration. Add to that the fact that I couldn't listen to them far from my computer because of audio limitations (being half deaf has it's advantages, but there are great disadvantages as well) meant that I was stuck to my computer and frequently playing inane computer or video games while listening. The next problem I encountered is that you can only have 3 (now 4) books checked out on your digital account at once and while you can return eBooks early, you cannot do that with audio books. Which meant that having listened to them within 5 days of checking them out, I had to wait 9 more days before they'd be "returned." No problem, I thought, I'll just check the audio books out from the library and then I can listen to them on any CD player. So I checked out 3 and 4 from the library. The third problem became appearant in that I couldn't listen to it on just any CD player as my kids wouldn't keep their noise level down which meant that I was once again chained to the computer and the idea of listening to it while doing laundry or cleaning flew out the window. Then there was the fact that listening to them took a lot more time. While Anne's narration was entertaining, it started to drag and I realized about half way through 3 that I could check out the books and read them twice as fast (if not faster). Nevertheless, I finished 3 and decided to go ahead and listen to 4 since I had it... only it wasn't 4, it was 5. I'd gotten the wrong book and found to my horror that I had no idea what was going on since I'd missed a book. The narrator had also changed and it was suddenly a lot harder to distinguish between the characters because the new narrator didn't do different voices for each character as much. That's when I scrapped the audio books and decided to just check the actual books out. I've got several books (still waiting on books 4 and 5 since they were out at my local branch) and I returned the audio books. I'll be jumping into them when they arrive. As for me not reading as much because of school.... I wouldn't say I'm ahead of the class, but I can definately say that I'm far from behind.

To sum up: I would recommend the first three if you're interested in listening to them and you enjoy audio books. The narrator changes on book 4 (I looked it up) and I didn't listen to her much so you could try her out if you prefer audio books. Otherwise I would highly recommend at least listening to Anne narrate the first book even if you've already read it because it helps to bridge the gaps and differences between the movies and the books.

Now an actual review of book 3:

I enjoyed this one. I wouldn't say it was the best, but it finally allows a release of the tension building about Mia's romantic life. It ends pretty much where the first movie ends though few, if any, of the events are in the movie. I'm curious to see where things go from here for Mia, Michael, Lily, and Tina.(less)

I actually enjoyed this book very much. There are jsut so many laugh out loud moments! I mean I liked this book but when I was checking it out, I didn't realize that it was going to be written in a diary type of form. I personaly like books with more of a dialect in them.

Sometimes you just need a little easy reading to make it through the day. And these books so are. Enjoyable for a young teenager, a very easy read for me. I think I keep picking them up because it takes me like 2-3 days to finish them, which is like no time at all. This one picks up where the last one left off.

I just love that this is a no-brainer kind of a book. I have been a little leery of books in a series and I honestly thought I wouldn't read past the first one just because I didn't want to take the risk. However, they are such fun, quick reads. I keep grabbing the next one and thinking, "just one more."

Down to this one: I LOVE the scene at the end when she finally shows up at the dance. Fantastic. That scene alone gave this book another star.

I read this as part of my quest to catch up on all those YA books I have missed out on over the past few years. So at the age of 26 I ventured into the teenage section of my new local library and pulled this off the shelf.

Sadly, it isn't the first Princess Diaries book (I had numbers 3, 5 and 9 to choose from), but I watched the first film recently (yes, I really am that behind the times) so I knew the general story, and it isn't difficult to pick up.

I know I'm waaaaaay older than the target audience for these books, but I loved this book, even so. As I was reading this I was thinking, "That's exactly like I was in high school." Well, except I wasn't a princess . . . and I grew up in Missouri, not NYC . . . and my mom wasn't married to my algebra teacher . . . and I wasn't so lucky to have the big brother of my best friend ever like me . . . Okay, I guess this book was nothing like me. As I was reading this I was thinking, "That's exactly like I was in high school." Well, except I wasn't a princess . . . and I grew up in Missouri, not NYC . . . and my mom wasn't married to my algebra teacher . . . and I wasn't so lucky to have the big brother of my best friend ever like me . . . Okay, I guess this book was nothing like me. But, still I could relate to so many of the feelings Mia unloaded into her diary. All of her insecurities about her feelings for Michael, and then her inability to come forward and say how she was feeling -- that totally played out like it was straight from my high school playbook. Now, as a "grownup", I'd have to say that her actions toward Kenny were totally selfish and unkind. If I had been her mother or grandmere I would never have told her to stick it out with him until something better came along, and so that she could have a date to the dance and a good grade in biology. But, sadly, I know that in the same situation at that age my selfish self would have probably done the same thing. Wrong? Yes, but maybe that's why I could relate to the dilemma that Mia faced in this book. Poor Kenny! Adolescence isn't always our finest moment of decision making and altruism. Now, having said all of that, I LOVED the ending. Yea Michael! He put so much work into his response to Mia, and then after she freaked out, he didn't back down. I know that it seemed as if so many of the kids I went to school with had these ideal love lives. They seemed to magically walk right into relationships with their perfect match. I, on the other hand, felt a lot like Mia. I felt awkward, ugly, and undesirable. I didn't really believe that there was a person on the planet who could really choose to ask me on a date. I think that is why I never really recognized when people were actually asking me out. It just never occurred to me that anyone would actually do that, so I brushed guy after guy off. Oh, the knowledge of hindsight! But I digress! I think that that is what I related to so much in this book. Mia is completely infatuated with Michael. On another side note: I do think that these teens throw around the L word (love) a little liberally. They aren't in love yet. Love takes a little more time and effort. But, to be fair, I threw the l word around a lot at that age too. Every relationship was a movie story to me. So, back to my review -- Mia is infatuated with Michael, but she cannot see any of the things that Michael does in return. She doesn't notice that he is unhappy with Kenny's actions. She doesn't see the little things that he does to show her that he cares. In this relationship, like in most relationships in life, a lot of pain could have been avoided if the two principles would simply sit down and really TALK to each other about their feelings. But, that does expose us to someone shooting our feelings down or ridiculing us, and I can see why Mia would avoid doing it.

I'm going to stop reviewing now before feeling the need to unload all of my neurotic high school behaviors. I'll just say, that once again, Meg Cabot writes a funny, sweet account of one young girl who is learning to find her place in the world. Her situation is enhanced because of her role as a princess, but the reality is that many young girls have the same struggle to find "self-actualization" and recognize how they fit into this world. They also yearn for love with someone who fits their personalities completely. They struggle to be noticed without being noticed too much for the wrong reasons. They want respect and friendship that is real. I love these books because Cabot taps into those needs in a funny way that can also show the strength of youth to see the world around them as it is as they find their way in it. I loved this book, and I will keep reading in the series, hoping that future books continue this smart, funny style.(less)

Mia's charterer is very confused about life, I would be to if I had to rule a country with bad grades and a boyfriend I didn't like. Aside from being a princess her character can relate to many of the highschool/middle school students, the setting as well is a typical modern highschool. Mia's biggest problem was to tell Micheal how she really felt, but how could she? with Kenny and Lilly around as well as half the school? Will she be able to face her fear?

I would recommend this book to teenage girls who are interested in relationships, this is a fun and great book to read especially because it's in first person , so it makes you feel like your apart of the story and you are living what is being told. The "Princess" series by Meg Cabot is one of my favorite series that relates to teenage girls going through problems inside and outside of school.“If you love something, set it free. I just love The Princess Diaries. Princess In The Spotlight was so fun to read, and we see Mia with her very first boyfriend!

Mia, of course, isn't into Kenny, because she likes Michael. Michael likes her too, so in the end, they end up together! It really is cute, and I'm sure all sorts of things will get in their way. It wouldn't be Mia's life if things didn't get in the way. And after seeing how much she really likes him, it's nice to see he feels the same way about her.

This book was a good boo in this series. I liked it because I thought that it showed that we can't help who we like. And those who like us, we can't control. But even if we want to hate that person, we really are meant to be their soul mate. And there's a song that says "Fear is the heart of love" And this book takes that quote to the next level.

Not quite as good as the second book but it is still pretty good anyway. Basically Mia is stuck in a love triangle (Kenny likes her but she likes Micheal who likes Judith). The whole story tells of her trying to break up with Kenny and hook up with Micheal on top of being a princess.

The third instalment of the Princess Diaries series was just as good as the previous two. I find that Meg Cabot’s books are good to read if you’re wanting something light and fun.
As always I got quite a few laughs out of Princess in Love. There were a couple of events that occurred that had me laughing quite a bit. It was just kind of outrageous that some of the characters thought some of the things that they had.

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.

She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.

Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.

Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.
