Excellent!
I checked this book out at our library in hopes that my 8th grade daughter would read it. I showed it to her, but she just said "eh". I decided I would read it and then tell her about it to try to get her interested, but I couldn't make it through the first chapter. The front cover of the book states that it is recommended for 6th-8th graders, but I would say that it is more suited for no older than 5th grade.
This is not really a book that you will want to read from cover to cover, but instead keep it by your bedside and pick up between whatever you happen to be reading at the time. Browse a few of the 1500 + words, abbreviations, and technical terms and you may discover something you never knew before. I'm particularly fond of querulous. Words are a powerful tool.
I would give this book 4 stars for quality because it presents good examples of vocabulary words (although it does include pronunciation). However, I must give it two stars because it's cramping my style on reading regular books.
I'm addicted to this series as well as the SAT collection. It's always good to build vocabulary or look more closely at those words you think you use properly. Too, I love word etymology.
I am not really "reading" this book. When I have time riffle through it. It is fun to me to learn new words.
Has cool words. Helps me add better word choice to my writing and comprehend other texts better.
