Riktigt varför White ger sig i kast med Bookchin är svårt att förstå efter att ha läst denna bok. Det synes inte finnas mycket av värde där enligt White. Dessutom tar han fasta på det kanske mest daterade och ointressanta i Bookchins gärning, exempelvis hans förmodat "banbrytande" insatser för att länka ihop traditionell vänsterradikal teori med ekologi. Intressantare är Bookchins bruk av etnografi och antropologi i hans teoritiserande.
