Lucado takes the verses from 1 Corinthian 13:4-8 and in the simplest ways makes it unforgettable in our daily lives. Here's just one example written by Max Lucado -- I Corinthians 13:6 "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth."

Not the kind of book I'd ever had read if it hadn't been recommended to me by a great friend who talked about how so many of the principles in the it applied to how she transformed her thinking about love and how it helped her relationship with her husband. They're one of the few couples in my peer group making a successful go of things so I figured maybe there's something in there I should read. There were.

I've got to admit, I skimmed this one. I'm usually a huge Lucado fan and devour his books as a starving man devours food, but this one just didn't catch me. Maybe it was the subject matter. Yes, God is love, but a chapter-by-chapter synopsis using 1 Corinthians 13 and showing how Jesus is all of those things didn't rock me on my heels and go, "Wow!" Perhaps if you're new to Christian non-fiction, this is a good place to start. Others may find themselves looking for more of an all-you-can-eat buf...more
Out frowing from the classic and beloved chapter, 1 Corinthian 13 an excellent chapter pertaining to what is love. Unlike the song, this chapter has proved to provide great insight to love. As usual Mr.Lucado's personal spin on this has gifted us, the reader with another awesome book from his creative mind. Saturated with personal stories, other references and other techniques that we have come to love that are signature of his writing. A must have and must read for anyone, especially in a day a...more
One of the best books I have every read. Takes you through 1Corithians 13 in a way that is truly life changing for anyone... I would rank this in the top 3 books I have ever read, making reference to it in many conversations and discussion board posts. It was here that I first heard the story of Catherine Lawes and her ministry to the prisoners of Sing Sing in 1929. Her story inspired and encouraged me to pursue my studies in psychology.
I typically would not have read this book. My mother in law gave it to me for Valentine's day. With God's timing, I was able to learn how to Love other people. I already know God loves me but this book allowed me to shower other people with that love God has given me. I loved how it was written. The chapters were broken up perfectly. And Max's example were right on target. LOVED IT!
Max Lucado is one of my favorites! He puts the truth out there so beautifully and it's so applicable. This book encouraged me to love in light of the love God has given me- thus the title- Love worth giving. Great scripture, great stories, and my book had a discussion guide in the back- so you could easily do this in a small group Bible Study.
Rated A
This is the third book I've read by Max Lucado -- all are A-rated. This one is his commentary on Paul's love letter to the Corinthians found in Chapter 13. He takes each aspect of love and makes it come alive in your heart and soul. God's love is not to be kept, but to be shared with others, always in all ways.

I love Max Lucado. He's not LDS but for some reason he makes reading the Bible easier for me. I've never really gotten into the Bible, and if I were reading it, it's always REALLY boring. But Max Lucado's books make it easy to love the Bible stories and make them apply to my life now.

Some reviewers have panned this book wondering why we would need to go through the "Love" passage in 1 Corinthians 13 attribute by attribute. But I found it refreshing to spend time meditating on each one and how God has loved us in each way. And I also found that it made me mindful of how I have not loved in each way so that I may ask God for forgiveness and strength to reflect His love for us.

Be prepared to change your views on what love is all about it. It is a great book that challenges to understand and implement true unconditional love.
Very thought provoking and emotionally moving at times. Almost too short given the potential depth of the material. Reads almost like a devotional with short chapters which can be taken slowly one chapter a day. I would recommend reading this book. It was difinitely a timely read for me given my circumstances lately. The message was both convicting and encouraging.
