The once proud city of Excelis is a crumbling ruin in a state of siege, as barbarians catapult pestilent animal corpses into the city to spread disease among those trapped inside.
Excelis is a city clinging to life by a thread. But ancient prophecies foretell a final retribution for the past arrogance of its rulers. When the sun is eaten away from the sky, when the ancient

After the Excelis trilogy, this is an interesting way to wrap up the saga. In this fourth part, the Doctor doesn't make an appearance, and the words "Time Lord" and "TARDIS" are kept quietly away--despite the appearance of Iris Wildthyme. For a Bernice Summerfield story, Benny doesn't have much stage time. She seems to be around most of the time, but Iris becomes the center of attention more often than the star. Benny arrives on Excelis and gets caught up with Iris's quest for the relic. The people of Excelis dont like strangers, particularly ones that mention the relic in a pub. This is a fun cd, with a decent plot and great interplay between the 2 leads. It is the best in the Excelis series, as it has a more comprehensive storyline. It also has zombie cattle. A good listen.

The Plague Herds of Excelis was my first, though not my last, Bernice Summerfield audio (not counting The Shadow of the Scourge). I thoguht the setting was good, the portrayal of Benny by Lisa Bowerman good, and the return of Iris Wildthyme OK, but didn't quite feel that the three gelled together perfectly; I missed both the Doctor as a character and Anthony Stewart Head.

I think I listened to this out of order. It was an adventure that really was an Iris Wildtyme adventure than a Bernice Summerfeld. Bernice gets blown out of the sky and crash lands on Excelis. There she runs into Iris who is trying to recover a relic that will destroy the world. Won't say anymore.

If I had some wishes, I think I would spend one of them wishing to get completely shit-faced with Bernice and Iris and talk shit about the Doctor.

Loved the banter between Benny and Iris. Interesting conclusion and a few plot twists to the Excelis series, especially what had happened to Jolene.
