I'm a bit undecided about a 3 vs. 4 for this one. I have a certain devotion to Nora Roberts that some might find irrational, but generally I find her characters interesting & distinguishable, and their conflict/relationships satisfying. My 3.5 rating rationale would go something like this:
*Never saw the 'whodunit' coming-- that's good!--4 stars!
*Plot holes that would enable the culprit to do what was done-- uh, 3 stars.
In the end, I'm giving it 4 because I like NR. If you are picky about my More...

Turned out that, despite all the various Nora Roberts recommendations folks kindly gave me, the first non-J.D. Robb of hers that I read was Angels Fall, her latest paperback. Turned out to be pretty good, overall. A talented young chef, after being the only survivor of a violent crime back East, travels across the country and winds up in a small town in the mountains--where she is the only witness to a murder. Only did she really see what she thought she did? Most of the town is dubious, except More...

I didn’t hate it, which kind of surprises me.
Although I am sure that I will not read any more Nora Roberts for awhile. Whether they are just sitting there in a box in my room, easily accessible, or not. My quota for silly romance is filled right up.
It was about a woman that had survived being shot when everyone else she was with died. And seeing her friend die. She’s slightly neurotic, like Monica from Friends, and obsessive. She moves alot and within the first couple weeks of being a new town i More...

Reece Gilmore has to be Roberts' quirkiest heroine yet, especially if you count only her big titles, and not the category romances.
On the run from her memories, in search of herself, she lands in a small Wyoming town for car repairs, takes a short-term job, and ends up staying longer than she expects. The people there come to accept her odd neuroses, especially when they learn about the traumatic event in her past.
Even so, no one's quite sure what to believe when Reece is the only witness to a m More...

Once again, Nora Roberts has penned a mystery about people in a small town living at the foot of spectacular mountains.
Reece Gilmore is the sole survivor of a murder spree in a restaurant in Boston, where she had been a chef. After months of therapy and hospitalization, Reece is trying to put herself back together. She’s meandering across the country in her old car, stopping from time to time to work long enough to make enough money to move on. Afraid of the dark and obsessive about locking doo More...

3 Stars! Not bad, but after listening to The Witness and being blown away by the narrator, plot and characters, this one didn't quite measure up. It took me a while to get used to the "voice" that was narrating this story, and I wonder if I had "read" the book, would I have enjoyed it more...I'm not sure.
The plot was intriguing, but at mid-point I guessed who the killer was. Nora Roberts tried so hard to direct your attention to another character and make it obvious it was him, that it was obvi More...

I am pretty new to romance novels for adults, though they were my main YA genre when I was in high school. This one is a romantic suspense novel about a woman, Reece Gilmore, who is the sole survivor of a violent crime. On the run from her painful past in Boston, she ends up in Angel's Fist, Wyoming, where she takes a job as a short-order cook. While hiking one day, she is the only witness to what she is sure is a murder, but no one, except Brody, an author of murder mysteries believes her. As s More...

It seems fitting to conclude Nothing But Nora Week with my absolute favourite Nora book of all time. Why do I like Angels Fall so much? Maybe because it is inspired by my two favourite psychological thrillers, Gaslight and Rear Window. I've watched both movies a million times, but I still get that goosebump-ey feeling as the dénouement approaches.

Another re-read, though this one was apparently only five years ago. It seems longer. Minor spoilers ahead.
Right, the scene: Reece Gilmore is the lone survivor of a spree killing massacre. After recovering for being shot, she had a breakdown and spent time in a mental hospital. It’s been two years and she’s been traveling across the country on the run from her personal demons. When her car breaks down in Angel’s Fist, Wyoming, she’s low on cash. She sees a wanted sign in a local diner window for More...

Not even a guilty pleasure! Ugh. This book delivers just what it promises, though: a simple story that makes you want to smack the main character for her ineptitude. It's been ages since I've attempted a Nora Roberts book and now I remember why.
I just can't get passed the fact that A. I would be ashamed to be caught holding one of her books where someone I know could see me and B. They remind me way too much of the bodice rippers that we passed around in 6th grade with dog ears highlighting the More...

4.5 stars. Good story. Very enjoyable.
This is my third Nora Robert's book. The first two I read were written in 1995 and 1998 and I didn't like them much. Because this is more recent, 2006, I'm wondering if her later work is better than her earlier work. I may try another of her more recent novels. This book ”Angels Fall” is about a talented woman chef who has been terribly wounded by surviving a gunshot massacre. She moves away, is in the process of healing and witnesses another murder. Angels Fall
My library has a queue a mile long for the books Roberts writes as Robb, so I thought I’d try one of the other books. I am not sure what category Angel Falls fits into – its part romance and part mystery.
Usually the idea of a book being even remotely a romantic novel would have me running for the hills, cynical bags packed. In this book the romance piece is so small that I am not sure I would even have described the book as part romance had I not been told it was.

I really liked Angels Fall, although not as much as the first two books I've read of NR (Black Hills and The Reef).
I was deliberating over 3 or 4 stars, and decided to give it 4 because I couldn't put the book down - The plot was fantastic!
Although I found the characters of Reece and Brody to be fascinating as individuals, I didn't really feel the chemistry between them as a couple. I would dearly loved to have read more about Brody's history but Reece had so many layers to her personality broug More...

I've read all of Nora's books and, until now, found her to be a fascinating writer, easy with words, great with descriptions. She could make you FEEL the story better than anyone else (passion, excitement, suspense) and I just couldn't wait to read the next book. Until this one. What a lame, lame, boring, predictable book. Can I say lame again? I suspect she let an assistant write the bulk of the book for her because I found none of her magic in there. Her heroin is pitiful (as in you can't poss More...

Good page-turner in the Nora Roberts stable. As is often the case, she could have cut 50 to 100 pages and done better, but I enjoyed it. A chef from Boston leaves the East after she alone survived a terrible shooting spree. She finds herself in Angels Fall, Montana, then sees a murder happen while she's out hiking. Because of her precarious mental state, people in town don't believe her. Of course, there's a mysterious novelist who had moved to town recently, too, and he's her defender. All good More...

Nora Roberts' "Angels Fall" was an interesting book that combined mystery, suspense, and romance all rolled into one, though with certain elements of a realistic small town and a woman on the run from a dreadful past. She comes across the town of Angel's Fist, Wyoming, and takes a job at a local diner to earn money after her car breaks down. While neurotic and suffering fr More...

I am becoming a Nora Roberts obsessive. Her novels are just so easy to get into and full of suspense. This is the scariest one I've read so far. I had to get my husband to check the locks of the hotel room before I went to sleep after reading it. Reece is running from her past and she intreprets the signs that take her to Angel's Fist. There she takes more steps towards her recovery from the dark event in her past. She meets Brody, a writer, who is a "say it how it is" kind of guy. There is the More...

Gara-gara label "Quill Award-Book of The Year 2007", aku jadi tertarik baca buku ini. Dulu udah baca Nora Roberts yang Blue Smoke, yang ternyata bagus. Tapi aku agak kecewa dengan buku ini. Rasanya memang Nora Roberts lebih piawai menulis drama. Penggalian terhadap karakter memang mendalam, tapi ceritanya sendiri kurang menggigit, baik romance-nya maupun misterinya. Anyway, aku bahkan dari awal penyelidikan pembunuhan sudah menduga pelakunya (efek terlalu banyak membaca misteri??).

If I’d not been assigned to read this for my "Master Class" workshop for professional fiction writers, it’s unlikely I ever would’ve started. If it had not been a requirement for the Master Class, I would certainly not have finished it.
I would’ve put it down after the first F-word - because the story was just not interesting enough to make me tolerate it. There was a lot of language (including plenty of use of the Lord’s name) which I did not like, and somewhat More...

Escaping from lingering obsessive memories of a brutal and senseless mass murder in Boston, chef Reece Gilmore finds herself applying for the job of cook at a local diner in Angel’s Fist, Wyoming. The menu and the kitchen are not quite what she’s trained for, but the calm scenery of the Grand Tetons make up for what the diner may be lacking. But as soon as she plans to settle in and take a relaxing hike to enjoy the scenery she witnesses a woman strangled to death on a lonely trail. But when she More...

I loved the character development....Reece, the victim of a crime in Big city, Boston and trying to recover in Wyoming around the tetons (with lots of names I remember). She is trying to recover from her panic attacks and a nervous breakdown...but someone keeps setting her up, or is it herself and she doesn't remember??

I was prepared to not like this book.
When I picked this up, the only thing I had ever read by Nora Roberts was Blood Brothers, and I found that absolutely rancid. I am, however, a big fan of her J.D. Robb In Death series. Seriously, I find it hard to believe the same mind produced both of them.
I was looking for the literary equivalent of junk food when I started this, figuring it would be low quality but keep me occupied for a couple hours but I ended up really liking this book. The characters More...

After finding a seemingly safe and beautiful haven in Angel's Fist, Wyoming, weary traveler Reece is finally willing to try to live and let go of the demons that haunt her violent and tragic past. My reviews of Nora Roberts books will probably be biased. Her books, to me, are really relaxing and I read them in the same spirit some people watch the TV.
However, this is my favorite of all her books (and I have read quite a lot of her books while my TV misses me). Some people blindly label Nora Roberts as the mushy romance writer but this particular book of hers has all the elements that make a very entertaining read.
