The story
How I imagine the process of creation of this book?
simple:

Ingredients:
--> Voodoo magic
--> 2 Vampires
--> A mystical city (Savannah)
--> Suspense
--> Mystery
--> Romance
--> and a reeeeeeeally bad guy

In a blender, place the first four ingredients. Cover and process until smooth. In a bowl, combine the blender pasta with suspense, mystery, and romance; keep stirring. Add the bad guy and mixture; stir some minutes. Serve with a god dose of laughs.

About the characters
The main characters are Willian and Jack. Willian is the ancient vampire that turn Jack, so they relationship is like a piss off dad and the teenager son that do everything to call the attention of the father. It's only a metaphor (obviously)... they were adults (and hot ones seeing the reaction of the womans) when they became vampires.
Only they will tell this story and the intercalate narration chapters will keep your attention. Willian always angry (you will lost account of how many times he will talk about his rage) and serious while Jack is funny and take the life (pardon, undead existence) more lightly. The only thing that make Jack lose his good humor is the "I-keep-you-in-dark-about-vampires-powers" politic that Willian follow. It's soooooo exasperating read Jack need to know more about vampires and obviously himself! But, when you arrive on the last chapter finally everything will be clear, and you will understand William stubbornness.

There are a bunch of secondary characters and my favorite are the twins (male and female) that guard William house. They are old magic creatures, being egyptian dogs during the day and humans during the night. BUT when they are humans they keep some dog behaviors and that crack me up! The best is when the male take a forbidden book to read. What do you think he do after he read it? So easy to guess! He hide the book under the carpet!
Can you imagine Willian finding a book under his carpet?

My dog do the same identical thing! Soooo funny find what he steal genially hidden under the carpet! You doooooooon't find what they hide... nooooooo, impossible!

I could talk hours about this book. Believe me there is a lot to be told, but, I have already annoyed you (long review, sorry). So, my wishes of fun and don't worry, this story is part of a serie, but there is a real end.

PS: don't get this cover... seriously... ok, it's a urban fantasy book, but what the hell? Why put a woman chin and nose? Don't get the significance... nope... (less)

Generally when I pick up a book and discover it's a first-person POV, I put it right back on the shelf. This one had such a unique opening I had to read more. Am I glad I did!

There are two main characters in this unique book, each of whom has his own first-person POV tale. One chapter might be William, who is the vampire sire of Jack, and the next is Jack's, an irreverent vampire "son" who is bound to William's side by loyalty -- and a healthy dose of trickery.

This book was described on Vampire Wire as "early Anne Rice", with more concentration on the plot of evil vampires, not so much on romance. I don't think I would describe it as early Anne Rice, but stuff like that is so subjective. The premise: William Cuyler Thorne is an old (circa 1500's) vampire who lives in Savannah, GA. He's got two ancient Egyptian guard dogs who shift into human form during the night, and a voodoo priestess at his beck and call to protect him. He's also got a 'son', or fledgling vampire that he made 140 years ago -- Jack.

Jack was a soldier during the "War of Northern Agression" (that's what some southerners term the American Civil War), and he's a good mix of modern fun compared to William's older, more serious personality. Both men enjoy women, with Jack being a self-described womanizer, and whereas William's tastes are much more refined, Jack is a good ole boy who runs an automotive shop and follows NASCAR religiously.

The setting of Savannah, which reminds me alot of New Orleans, with its eccentric characters, heat, and voodoo, was perfect -- there's a great blend of magic, vampire lore, shapeshifters, along with good old southern charm. The plot in this novel is as follows: William's sire, Redreek, has made the trip from the Old World to Savannah for the purpose of seeking out William, though for what purpose isn't clear -- to destroy him, or convert him to an ally in Redreek's evil cause. William HATES his sire, as Redreek destroyed William's wife and child before making William carry the memory of their deaths for all eternity.

William and Jack make for a good pair -- kinda like the guy-buddy movies you see of the more straight-laced guy with the reckless one. William didn't ask to be made into a vampire, but he doesn't sit around bemoaning that fact, and though Jack is sad about the fact that he'll never have a wife and family, he doesn't sit around whining about it, which is a relief. Redreek is evil and fun in that way, and the only thing I can really say that is a bit of a negative was that I found some inconsistencies in the presentation of the characters -- Redreek loves being an ancient vampire, lording over the human world, though he used some decidedly modern speech patterns and phrases. The same for William, and whereas William started off as describing himself as evil to the core, death on two feet, he's clearly not that as the novel progresses.

In terms of depth and themes, this is more of a plot-driven novel, and there's some very tense scenes when one wonders if Jack will succumb to the dark side. I didn't find it as deep as Interview With the Vampire, with its themes of 'meaning of life and death', though it's not a light, fluffy romance novel, either. The book is told in the first person from the viewpoints of both Jack and William, and I found the contrast in terms of thought patterns and language between the older and younger vampire very funny and well-done. All in all, the novel is a good blend of an entertaining read with some interesting, fun characters in a perfect setting, and I really do recommend it. I'll definitely be getting more books in this series.(less)

This book seemed to start out really slow for me. While I was enjoying the story itself, I just couldn't seem to get invested in the characters in the story, and the way it would switch from Williams point of view to Jack's seemed more of an annoyance. Luckily for me, about halfway through it really picked up. I really started enjoying the characters, the story grew interesting, and I was able to lose myself in the tale.

Vampires, the Hollywood stereotype. No reflection, sun equals death, holy water burns, sleeping in coffins....but the way the novel is approached was brilliant. Two Vampires in Savannah, the Sire and his only "offspring." It switches dialog and thought from one vamp to the other in the chapter headings, William and Jack. My first impression as I started to read this series was that the vampires reminded me of Anne Rice's vampires - unhappy and wishing for death. As the series goes on however, I am warming to the main characters. My husband quite likes this series-it is very suitable for male readers. It has romance, somewhat, but it is more intrigue and plot based, lots of twists and hope and disappointment. I find it to be very interesting and I am on to Book 2!

When you get passed all the nudity and sexual content, it's a really great book! MY favorite character is without a doubt Jack McShane. I don't really know why, I guess it's because he's funny and acts like a little kid when he refuses to do things for William (his sire). Truthfully, if you're not a fan on nudity or sexual content, you still should give this book series a try-I did and I'm hooked!

I enjoyed the story line. However my only critic of the book was it was a bit slow. There was so much detail to took a while to get through it. However, at the end of the book I enjoyed the story line an was happy I read it. I think reading the rest of the series would be easier due to all the information put into this book but I think it could of been spread out a bit into the other books.

I don't know how I ended up with this book, but from the cover, I thought it was going to be a tacky dark romance. Wrong! It was a well-written and plotted vampire novel with outstanding characters. There are several more books in this series and I have the second one on hand.
It was refreshing to find such an engaging vampire novel after all the crap that's out there.

This was not what I expected. I didn't expect it to be written in first person. I didn't expect to be surprised, andI didn't expect to like the main character. He seemed so secretive, and I would have been upset if I found just how much my sire was keeping from me and I had been his right hand man for 100 years. But I did love this book.

Don't let the title mislead you. The seduction isn't a man seducing a woman or vice versa. It's far more complicated than that. William and Jack are equally the "main" character and of the two, Jack is far more genuine. It is his struggle to cope with an existence that he doesn't fully understand that makes this book.

Don't be put off by the cheesy cover art and author name. This is a well written, well plotted vampire tale. Fluffy but fun. It is fairly sexually explicit so keep the kiddos away.
