When it comes to a wild and seductive nightlife, Savannah has bite.

Older than the United States and wealthy beyond his years, playboy William Cuyler Thorne is a vampire with a nice long undead life—one that includes a steady stream of admirers, a consistent supply of rejuvenating blood, and, best of all, a cover as one of Savannah’s most prominent pillars of society.

Terrific book! It has the perfect dose of suspense, mystery, action and romance... and BTW, just to give immediately an example, the book start with William (one narrator) on a brothel.
sooo GREAT this begin!

Generally when I pick up a book and discover it's a first-person POV, I put it right back on the shelf. This one had such a unique opening I had to read more. Am I glad I did!

There are two main characters in this unique book, each of whom has his own first-person POV tale. One chapter might be William, who is the vampire sire of Jack, and the next is Jack's, an irreverent vampire "son" who is bound to William's side by loyalty -- and a healthy dose of trickery.

This book was described on Vampire Wire as "early Anne Rice", with more concentration on the plot of evil vampires, not so much on romance. I don't think I would describe it as early Anne Rice, but stuff like that is so subjective. It does have a good dose of sex and tension in it, which is very well done and advances the storyline or develops characters.

The premise: William Cuyler Thorne is an old (circa 1500's) vampire who lives in Savannah, GA. He's got two ancient Egyp...more

This book seemed to start out really slow for me. While I was enjoying the story itself, I just couldn't seem to get invested in the characters in the story, and the way it would switch from Williams point of view to Jack's seemed more of an annoyance. Luckily for me, about halfway through it really picked up. I really started enjoying the characters, the story grew interesting, and I was able to lose myself in the tale.

Jack is a hilariously funny good-ole Georgian boy and he h...more

An interesting mix of vampirism and voodoo, set in the south, Savannah GA. The vampires are vampires and have no issues with who they are,(some current books are way too reflective) and have values. There are two main characters, one William is an old European vamp, the other Jack is a Nascar loving southern man. Each has dark shadows form their previous human lives. They are both sexual and lusty and show respect women. Everything seems good for them until William's sadistic sire Reedrek shows u...more

Okay regardless of the cover and title this is not just a schmaltzy romance. Actually, it has almost no romance at all, although there is a lot of sex. This book is actually about the relationship between Jack and William. William made Jack a vampire during the Civil War. Since then he has pretty much kept Jack in the dark regarding all things vampire, giving him only the bare minimum of knowledge that he needs to survive. When William's maker Reedrek comes this causes serious problems bec...more

This First book of the series has got me hook line and sinker. Firstly I will say that this book is in the category of Jeanine frost Night huntress books.

Suspenseful without being horrific and sexy without being romantic, this debut adds nothing to the growing pile of vampire fiction except the promise of more to come. Vampire William Cuyler Thorne is a 500-year-old socialite living in contemporary Savannah, Ga. Passing himself off as a new family scion each generation since the Revolutionary War, William has acquired substantial wealth, social stature and a co-conspirator in Eleanor, a high-class madam who supplies women to satiate his blood lus...more

L'alt...more

Vampires, the Hollywood stereotype. No reflection, sun equals death, holy water burns, sleeping in coffins....but the way the novel is approached was brilliant. Two Vampires in Savannah, the Sire and his only "offspring." It switches dialog and thought from one vamp to the other in the chapter headings, William and Jack. You must be able to switch between the two to keep up and of course they intermingle and you have to remember who's version you're looking at at the moment. William...more

My first impression as I started to read this series was that the vampires reminded me of Anne Rice's vampires - unhappy and wishing for death. As the series goes on however, I am warming to the main characters. My husband quite likes this series-it is very suitable for male readers. It has romance, somewhat, but it is more intrigue and plot based, lots of twists and hope and disappointment. I find it to be very interesting and I am on to Book 2!

When you get passed all the nudity and sexual content, it's a really great book! MY favorite character is without a doubt Jack McShane. I don't really know why, I guess it's because he's funny and acts like a little kid when he refuses to do things for William (his sire). Truthfully, if you're not a fan on nudity or sexual content, you still should give this book series a try-I did and I'm hooked!

I enjoyed the story line. However my only critic of the book was it was a bit slow. There was so much detail to took a while to get through it. However, at the end of the book I enjoyed the story line an was happy I read it. I think reading the rest of the series would be easier due to all the information put into this book but I think it could of been spread out a bit into the other books.

I don't know how I ended up with this book, but from the cover, I thought it was going to be a tacky dark romance. Wrong! It was a well-written and plotted vampire novel with outstanding characters. There are several more books in this series and I have the second one on hand.
It was refreshing to find such an engaging vampire novel after all the crap that's out there.

This was not what I expected. I didn't expect it to be written in first person. I didn't expect to be surprised, andI didn't expect to like the main character. He seemed so secretive, and I would have been upset if I found just how much my sire was keeping from me and I had been his right hand man for 100 years. But I did love this book.

Don't let the title mislead you. The seduction isn't a man seducing a woman or vice versa. It's far more complicated than that. William and Jack are equally the "main" character and of the two, Jack is far more genuine. It is his struggle to cope with an existence that he doesn't fully understand that makes this book.
Barbara
I somewhat enjoyed this book but it's definitely not up there with JR Ward or Lara Adrian in the vampire romance department. I actually purchased book 2 first so I will read it (since I have it) but unless it's much better than this one, I won't be reading a third installment.

Don't be put off by the cheesy cover art and author name. This is a well written, well plotted vampire tale. Fluffy but fun. It is fairly sexually explicit so keep the kiddos away.

William Cuyler Thorne was made a vampire in 1528 in England, and his maker is cruel.
Jack was made by William. They live in Savannah now, and things are very interesting, and funny too.

This book was much better than I thought it would be. It was an entertaining read. I love how the author switches back and forth between William and Jack's POVs.
