Rubie's story and the Landry series is my all-time second favorite series behind the Dollanganger series. I love everything about Ruby. This series has so many twists and turns it made my head spin. The twin aspect made Ruby's story stand out from all others in my opinion. I adored Giselle. I know she was a b with an itch, but still she always kept things interesting. Beau was another reason I really enjoyed the Ruby series so much. He was an awesome love interest.
Ruby was the second V.C. Andrews series to be penned by ghostwriter Andrew Neiderman and, in terms of setting, is probably one of the best. We move from the Cajan swamps of Louisana to New Orleans as fifteen year old Ruby discovers that she has a long-lost father and twin sister in the city. But Ruby's arrival in New Orleans is not an entirely welcome one. Neither her sister nor stepmother are quite what they seem and each, in her own way, would like to destroy the innocent Ruby.

If you've ever read Flowers In The Attic or any other of V.C. Andrews' booksand liked/enjoyed it, then you'll enjoy this one.
I honestly was a bit skeptical about reading this cause I hadn't read the blurb or anything and honestly, V.C. Andrews has written A LOT of books and series about teenage girls so I expected something similar.
While some of the themes and events are a bit familiar, it was a very nice read and once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Don't skip ahead or read spoilers or...more

I really enjoyed this book. The only frustrating part about it was not having time to sit and do nothing and read. I started to read this book while I had little time to devote to being able to read it. Finally, however I am done with it.
This is the first book I have read by V.C. Andrews and I very much like her writing style. The book is about a Cajun raised girl named Ruby who grew up in the Bayou of Louisiana; and who upon her Grandmere's deathbed discovers she is actually of Creole blood, fr...more

Seperti menonton sinetron.

Following his success with the Cutler Series, Andrew Neiderman spun out another enjoyable series based on Virginia Andrews' notes. This series didn't QUITE have the feel of its predecessors, but is still a worthwhile and engaging book (and series)
While the Cajun v Creole is a bit stereotyped (but nowhere near as the heavy stereotypes Neiderman used in later books) the characters are still rather enjoyable and believable. The rest of the Landry series is much the same, a bit heavy with some stere...more

Reading Virginia Andrews' books when I was 15, they were kind of exciting. Reading them at 25, they were not.
Flowers in the Attic and the subsequent series were some of my favourite books to read during my teen years, and after being given a pile of books from a friend recently which included the Landry series I was looking forward to starting them. Unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. The writing style is simplistic, the description is nothing more than a list of features and the plot is t...more

Positive:
Setting- I loved the bayou setting with the swamp and then when it switched to New Orleans. The detail was very well written, just like it usually is with VC Andrews. I’m pretty sure this is my favorite scene in an Andrews novel.
Main character- Ruby is a strong, smart character. I’d say she’s a main character girls can look up to. Yes, she makes mistakes, but those mistakes are understandable. I love that she’s able to stay strong after all she goes through.
*Gasp* factor- There are so m...more

Ruby Laudry Dumas's life was based on nothing but lies after lies. She was raised by her Cajun grandmere who had special healing powers and lived across the swamp from her drunk grandpere. Life was ordinary for her and her grandpmere, weaving fabrics for travelers to earn money and Ruby's painting talent, which Grandmere predicted was going to take her far.
At fifteen, Ruby's life, the way she knew it, began to fall apart when Ruby fell in love with a boy, Paul, but to be discouraged of the relat...more

Rubys Grandmere dies, her Grandpere Jack wants to marry her off to some old man. So Ruby goes to find her father in New Orleans. She finds her father, her twin sister, and you could say her evil stepmother Daphene. Her twin gets her into all kinds of trouble. Add a little voodoo magic, Daphene trying to put her in an instituion, her twin being in an accident leaving her disabled. I am looking forward to reading book two to see where this story goes next.
I have always had a deep fascination with the deep America South. the V.C. Andrews books are great in that they are easy to read and give me a nice insight to that part of America.
Ruby kept me turning the pages to the end and satisfied my need to read something easy but highly entertaining. The book deals with age old family issues as well as those of the occult. A lovely balanced book to read.

The Landry series is probably the only series I would rate higher than a 2 star if I had read them as an adult and not as an adolescent. I really like the bayou backdrop. See, I am slightly obsessed with the culture down there (Cajun/voodoo). It may be the reason why I love True Blood as much as I do.
I didn't get into the story right off the bat but it was a great read. Typical VCA book, I know this was written by the ghostwriter but it stays pretty true to her spirit in my opinion. The characters were pretty well-developed and interesting. I felt really sorry for Ruby, it was like she couldn't get a break and wished she would of stood up Gisselle more! So good story.

The landry series is a wonderful drama series by vc andrews. she knows how to twist a tail of deception lies lust love drama sadness fear and many other emotions. you will know the main character as if she was you... quite enjoyable!
VC Andrews has always been a favorite of mine since my childhood days. I have read (and re-read) all of her books, and although I am much older now and find that some of her work is better than others, I still enjoy the twists and turns, strangeness and mystery that continues to captivate my interest. (even some of the ghostwriter's work)

I love V.C. Andrews. My mother interested me to her books when I was about 9 or 10 and I read them all within a year or two. Ruby and Heaven are my two favorite series. And My Sweet Audrina, a stand alone book, is really great too.
