For thirty years Randy Alcorn has been encouraging people-young and old-to pursue the rewards of sexual purity. Too often we settle for a compromised Christianity that's just a baptized version of the world's sad existence, rather than the abundant life to which God calls us. This book deals with - raising children to embrace sexual purity - providing an example of purity...more

"A short book full of wise advice, straight to the point stating the obvious but often overlooked message that `Purity is smart and Impurity is stupid' - can it get any simpler than that?"

Published in 2003 by Multnomah, Randy Alcorn's The Purity Principle: God's Safeguards for Life's Dangerous Trails is as relative and pertinent today (maybe even more so) than when it was first published. The message in this book is timeless, obvious, and wise.

I re-read this book as research for my current non-f...more

Dear friends,

I'm not struggling with sexual sin, I just love to read and to be encouraged while I'm waiting faithfully for the day I'll be ONE with my lady.

To single Christians,
*Ask a mature Christian to mentor you as you walk in purity.
*Remember that your date is your Christian brother or sister, not your lover.
*Focus on talk, not touch; conversation, not contact.
*Be accountable to someone about your purity.
*Don't do anything with your date that you wouldn't want someone else to do with you...more

In spiritual life class last week professor Jongeward handed out this book . Each semester Randy donates 100's of these for free to the students . This wasn't required reading for the course but it was highly recommended since Mr. Alcorn will be the guest speaker one week in December . It's easily read in one sitting which was nice because I have tons of assigned reading to do . The book isn't about pre-marital sex . Although that is mentioned , the book emphasizes sexual purity as a whole , som...more

God is pure. He wants me to be pure as well. He has set up this world in such a way that sinful acts are punished and righteous acts are rewarded. As Randy Alcorn put it, "Purity is always smart; impurity is always stupid." and, "Purity always helps us. Impurity always hurts us." Another lesson I learned is that considering myself immune to a major sexual sin is a very dangerous place to be. Alcorn said, "Don't kid yourself that it can never happen to you - it can. And if you don't think it can...more
A nice concise book about keeping your thoughts and actions pure. There are separate sections for both married couples and singles. Has some good practical (and difficult) advice on things that you can do to safeguard your heart. What makes this book unique to me is that the consequences that are laid out here if you don't protect yourself are described in an interesting way. The book describes what happens to your heart, and your attitudes more than it does the physical repercussions, mostly I...more

Randy Alcorn’s book The Purity Principle is a great addition to one’s library. In only 82 pages, Alcorn has provided a superb book on the topic of purity. Not only is the content biblical and pastoral, but also the writing style is very easy to read.

Each chapter contains helpful analogies and stories of personal experiences that drive home the topic at hand, such as the pencil analogy on page 31 and the doughnut analogy on pages 51 & 52. My favorite, however, is the analogy that begins chap...more
Highly recommend to any man -- especially those who are married or in the ministry. Instructional and motivational -- this tiny book fits a spot that is missing on many bookshelves. There are plenty of books on purity for the unmarried and plenty of books on marriage, but this book is great for those who are already married but still wish to be challenged.

I highly recommend this book. Very helpful!

This book is part of the “Small Books, Big Change” series. With only 93 pages, and those quite small, it’s the sort of book even the most avid non-reader can read. This book is for men and addresses the matter of sexual purity.

First, there are some excellent insights in this book. For instance, on page 38, Alcorn contrasts the false intimacy of sexual fantasy with real intimacy with God. He argues that God offers a superior satisfaction. It’s the sort of book you could give to all the guy...more

Alcorn takes the subject of purity to depths deeper than most books on purity. His tone and writing is simple but compeling enough as to inspire us, the readers, to think why we ought to remain pure: for fear of God, loving God and hope of reward. In this small book one is able to find great help and encouragent to grow in holiness. It is definetly worth reading it, studying it at least once every year with the church and men.

Alcorn reminds us that sexual impurity is not just immoral, it is foolish and stupid. He urges readers to maintain and fight for sexual purity not so as to meet a cosmic nonsensical decree, but as as a way of pursuing a better life and so as to enjoy it in the way that God intended to be best enjoyed. Whether male or female, married or single, this a good and short little book to read.
A bit heavy handed at times as it can be a little fire and brimstone but he does it to bring attention to the real life repercussions of sexual impurity. He provides many cases for it straight from the Bible, gives real examples and explains ways to maintain your sexual purity. Even if you're strayed, you can regain your sexual purity by starting now. In the end though, it's up to you and how far you're willing to go (or not go) but be careful either way. It's a struggle but you can win.
As a man, this book has some very interesting insights. I think it is telling when we dance around the edges of sin, and then wonder how or why we fell into sin.

Randy Alcorn makes this a easy read and a fast read. Unlike "Everyman's battle" which covers much of the same material. Randy puts this in simple terms; Purity is smart, impurity is stupid.

He does not get into huge fine points, or give a lot of suggestions on how to avoid this. It is do not stand up to temptation run, avoid it. Confess...more

A very practical little book for all adults; married and single! Teens will benefit from the wisdom as well. Encouragement and practical ways to walk with God in purity.
Just before trashing their purity people think," 'This is for me. This is for my happiness.' Yet it wasn't. Not even close. It never is. In fact they didn't just hurt others. Without intending to, they acted against their own self-interests. What they did wasn't just wrong. It was stupid...The Purity principle is: Purity is alway...more

A straight forward, no nonsense look at what it means to live a life of sexual purity. Alcorn doesn't mince words and calls his reader to higher standards, not as a kill joy, but to experience happiness and intimacy at its fullest. We are ALL on a purity journey, single, married or parents. If you want to know how to maintain your purity, this book is for you!
This booked, aimed at men mostly, is a great reminder of how important moral purity is. In the law/grace or flesh/spirit balance, it leans a little more towards following the law in one's own efforts. It is still a great motivator and should scare most earnest men into at least seeking out a solution for their moral failures.

Great Read, Encouraging and challenging to the soul, I was able to use some of his material to add to my Biblical Singleness & Purity Class.

This book is directed at those who suffer from sexual iniquities and gives insight on how to overcome them~ very informative! On average, it was a good read, but not exactly what I was expecting.
short simple read. really smart and challenging and speaks a lot of truth as to what God desires purity to look like when you have a relationship with Christ. I think Christ is logical and the author does a great job of showing the logic of Christ's will for us in purity.
A very straight talking book about purity... a subject we don't hear much about. This book opens the reader's eyes to the many ways one can employ to remain pure... in all areas of your life. A serious, strong message of a book for anyone who wants to live a godly life!
"A Parent's must read!". This is a wonderful book for anyone. I also wish every teenager and/or young adult could get a hold of this concept. It's God's plan for all of us and we must teach this to our children. Kuddo's to all the parents out there who care enough to try!

Awesome book, full of practical exhortation. Much needed, and highly recommended for anyone with hormones. Yep, so basically everyone! :-) I appreciate so much Randy's sensitive heart and his obvious desire to help Christians live a truly God-honoring life.

This book is a really easy read. Took me an hour. It's not anything earth shattering or very new which is common in this area of writing. However Alcorn is trusted and easier to read than most so I would pick this book over many others like it.

Very good discussions on vital issues for Christians as we are prone to sexual impurity in this generation. Helped me a lot personally on being vigilant and guarding the very thoughts that I allow my mind to enter.

Simple and excellent material helping contemporary Christians live in the post-modern era, remaining faithful to their Lord, their spouses and their commitments.
David Bonikowsky
Excellent book. In summary, choosing purity is not only pleasing to God, but is also the only reasonable option. Purity is always wise, impurity is always foolish.
Quick easy read that is good for anyone who wants more insight and encouragement on how to follow God's desire for us on sex and purity before marriage.
Don't let the size fool you. This little book packs a punch. Randy Alcorn punches the reader in the face with a call back to gospel purity. Great book!
