Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where my friends and I live in luxe Fifth Avenue apartments and attend Manhattan's most exclusive private schools. We're smart, we've inherited classic good looks, we wear fantastic clothes, and we know how to party. We can't help it-we were born this way.
Our story begins with three inseparable, completely gorgeous fifteen-year

I borrowed this from the local library because there's been a lot of talk about the Gossip Girl series, especially since the telly show came out. Now, it is VERY rare that I won't finish a book if I start it, and even rarer that I won't at least give it a good chance, but this book? I wouldn't want to waste another minute on it. Seriously, the writing in here makes my beloved Sweet Valley High look like Shakespeare in comparison.

I really enjoyed this book because it is so unlike my life!
This is the prequel to the "Gossip Girl" series. (So its what happened before all the stuff in the series).
I haven't read any other ones besides this one, and now I want to read the rest of them.
But someone said that I shouldn't read the prequel before the whole series because it gives something away...but I understood everything and stuff so I was fine...but I guess it might ruin the rest of the series a little...but probably not.

This book is about how Serena van der Woodsen started falling for Nate and what led to their affair, and why she left Constance Billard School for Girls. When Blair Waldorf began to like Audrey Hepburn and when her dad left her mom for another man, when she first fell in love with Nate, and what caused her to have bulimia. How Nate Archibald came between Blair and Serena. When Nate first learned how to do drugs. How Vanessa got into film making and when she shaved her head to make sure she had l ...more

This was interesting as it was the first GG book I had read for the first time after seeing the tv show, so I kept seeing and hearing the characters as they are on TV (which obviously does not work well for Rufus or Vanessa, for example, nor really for Jenny). It's quite entertaining, and actually does tie pretty well into the rest of the series -- they make very few mistakes with events, chronology, etc., which is pretty impressive given that the quality of the ghostwriting (or in some cases ju ...more

I read some of the Gossip Girl series when they first came out, and then stopped. I've completely forgotten everything about them, and when venturing to the library with my grandma, I saw the prequel & decided I might as well read it, then begin to re-read the series. . . I have never seen a single episode of the show, and have no idea what has gone on. But, I love the writing style the author brings to the table. She gives a very objective, clear omniscient view, followed at the end of para ...more
Over time I've grown to known and love our favorite Upper East Side scandal-makers. We have followed their every move - thanks to the help of a little birdie named Gossip Girl - and accompanied them as they played the field, played hard to get, broke hearts, found love, shopped 'till they dropped, and partied until the sun came up. The one thing we were never privy to, however, is how it all began. How they came to love -- and hate -- one another; and why their relationships were so tumultuous. ...more

This prequel takes us back before Vanessa moves to New York and shaves her head, before Jenny had boobs, before Dan started smoking and became a poet, and, most importantly, before Nate, Serena and Blair became the most messed up love triangle ever. In addition to how all those things began, the three watch Breakfast at Tiffany's for the first time, Blair begins her bout with bulimia, Blair's dad comes out of the closet, and Serena decides to go to boarding school.

In the prequel to the GOSSIP GIRL series, Blair, Serena, Nate, Jenny, Dan, Vanessa, and Chuck's nasty little secrets are exposed.

Why Serena left, what attracted Nate to Blair, and every detail about our favorite rich kids are told. And nothing is left to the imagination. How did Serena and Nate end up hooking up before Blair and Nate? Is Vanessa really in love with Dan? What other dirty little deeds has Chuck participated in? Is Jenny really as inno
I read this after finishing the series, which may have been a bad idea, but I don't think it was out when I first started this series. The prequel just delves deeper into the characters' lives before the first book started, but the subsequent books explained the important parts. The prequel was a bit less interesting because of that; I knew what was going to happen. Not so fun, but still likeable.

Also, I'm a bit annoyed at the discrepancy with Serena's character. It takes till the second-to-last
Yes, I am embarrassed to admit that at my age I bought this book! I fell in love with the tv series (yes embarrassed) but what can I say, I am hooked! This book, however, promises to reveal what happened before the tv series started and it revealed literally nothing new.... nothing! It was also very full of weird things like three best friends (one male and two female) who slept in each other's beds (nonsexually of course) constantly since like elem school - what??? This book in No WAY compares ...more

Všichni víme, že seriál super drbna je založený na knižní sérii, co ale nevíme je, že je zcela jiná! Netušila jsem, co čeho se to ženu, když jsem se rozhodla pro koupi prvního dílu Kdo jiný než ty. Serena má staršího bratra, Blair není rozmazlený jedináček, a Nate miluje obě dívky a nemůže si vybrat mezi Serenou a Blair. A tím to teprve začíná.

Serena, Blair, Vanessa, Jenny, Dan, Nate și Chuck ...more

This was a very good book, but not the best book I have ever read. I found the book interesting, but at times somewhat boring. Although the book relates to real life situations, which I found nice to read about. The book had a lot of detail which made it easy to understand.
This book is about high schoolers that live in New York City. They have been dealing with an anonymous blogger that keeps the entire upper east side up to date on the latest gossip. The 2 main character, Blair and Serena are
I finally finished this.
It had to be one of the worst I read. But atleast I finished it instead of abandoning it. The fact was I had high expectations since the series was good. Actually this is that one time when the TV adaption is wayy more better than the books.
The writing style was immature, the plot okay. The worse were the characters, they were dumb. Also if I have to read one more time how perfect Serena was, I am gonna start hating her. And she is my favourite character. Nate was.. NAT
Annnd I'm finally done. Not going to read anymore of the series. Nothing happens, I don't care about high school drama, and half the book is brand names.
The prequel to the Gossip Girl series. If you haven’t read the series first, you may want to do that. If you’ve seen the tv show, you know enough to read this and figure out what is going on. This takes place a couple years before the show and book series starts. There is a lot of drama to go around, with a series of characters that all intertwine with each other as the story starts to unfold. There is a ton of product placement in the book because everything these A-listers do is a top brand. T ...more
I regret not getting into this series when I was younger.
You know, I'm actually angry with myself for enjoying this as much as I did. Really I am, because while I don't think it was any kind of literary masterpiece, I really did enjoy reading about the utter rubbish that was the content of this novel. And really, I haven't even read the Gossip Girl books, I've only ever seen the TV show, which I have been informed is incredibly different.

Okay, so here we go. In the beginning, there was Serena, Blair and Nate who have all known each other since they we

It Had To Be You by Cecily von Ziegesar is the prequel to Gossip Girl, the first book in the Gossip Girl series. After reading the first book of the series, many readers are left with a bunch of unanswered questions such as "why did Serena go to boarding school in the first place?", "What made Nate choose Serena over Blair?", "what was
After reading the book “Gossip Girl – It Had to be you” by Cecily von Ziegesar, I gained much more knowledge about friends, betrayal, lies etc, than before. This book correlates to me and two other people. Just like there were three best friends in the book, I was also in a friendship where there were three people and sometimes I fear of if our friendship will ever come to an end and if so, how will it end. My favorite part in the book was actually the beginning where they introduce all three ma ...more
I put this book down for a LONG time and then finally came back to it. It was typical of the rest of the series and it was fairly quick moving but the series had really lost my interest. I just don't care much for the characters any more and partly with this one had to do with the fact that this book was set when the characters were young teens. Having read the rest of the series I could tolerate them the older they got and they attitudes changed. This little bitchy rant of Blair's through the w ...more

How I Came To Read This Book: Something possessed me to buy it, despite having given up on the GG series several years ago.

The Plot: New York's Upper East Side Prep Schoolers are about to have the time of their lives - not that they haven't dabbled a bit already. Best friends Serena, Nate & Blair are enjoying themselves in mid-winter of their sophomore year when the two ladies realize they've both got feelings for their leading man. Elsewhere, a brother and sister duo by the names of Dan and
So, I must start by admitting that I actually did *not* read the Gossip Girl series before reading the prequel -- but, I did watch Season 1 of the show. And, while I'm admitting things here, I actually *did* really, really enjoy the TV show -- embarassingly so -- and I can't deny that my obsession with streaming GOSSIP GIRL on Netflix was part of the reason I pretty much stopped reading at the end of this past year. Oops.

Given that I've only seen the television show, and haven't read a single GG
Okay, so this book went by quickly for me, but I do have mixed feelings. I wanted to enjoy it more than I actually did. Usually, I like MOST YA books, even though, I'm not really a Young Adult anymore. I still enjoy an easy read. BUT, this book had too much glam and glitz and superficial people in it to actually enjoy it.

Basically the story is about "Gossip Girl", whomever she may be, who writes a blog about the richy rich, popular and not so popular people at St. Judes & Constance Billard S

Read on blog!!

My judgement of the book is very biased.
Maybe it's because I am currently watching the 5th season.
And I love it(ask raven about it- its my mission to make her fall for it too).

Okay so truth be told, as much as I love watching gossip girl I did not like this book that much.
Its when Blair, Serena and Nate are naive. And knowing what would happen just made me furious cause I couldn't sop it.

The characters in this book enraged me.
Lets take Nate for instance. He has 2 beautiful best

Oh, Gossip Girl. I began reading this series back in 2008 my senior year of high school when the show premiered, and I had gotten addicted to it. I owe a lot to Gossip Girl. The show meant a lot to me at the time, as I first related to Serena's loneliness and her status as Upper East Side pariah, and then began to relate to Blair as I got into the books... and the television series. The books introduced a world of high fashion to me, which I will never be able to afford but will always love. The ...more

I thought this book was way too long and dragged out. I liked the other Gossip Girl book I read because it was a quick read. This book was about double the size and it did not need to be that long. This story has the same characters, but they are all 15 and Jenny Humphry is 13. The story focuses on New York City's most fabulous teenager, Serena VanderWoodsen and her two best friends Nate Archibald and Blair Waldorf.
One large part of the story is the friendship between Nate, Blair, and Serena. N
Super loved this! 5 stars indeed!

Call me crazy, but I read this first, since it's a prequel. In spite it being the latest release. I know secrets will be dished and some whys will be answered. But I have a grasp of what happens.. Because, yes, I am a huge fan of the TV series.

I loved this prequel. It enlightened me with what they were like as tweens. So, there's this Nate-Serena-Blair three-way best-friend-ship that is filled with hidden feelings and bottled-up emotions that will definitely will
