Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where my friends and I live in luxe Fifth Avenue apartments and attend Manhattan's most exclusive private schools. We're smart, we've inherited classic good looks, we wear fantastic clothes, and we know how to party. We can't help it-we were born this way.

Our story begins with three inseparable, completely gorgeous fifteen-year-

Junior Sampaio I started with the first one. "It Had to Be You" shows the beginning of it all... It would lose its magic if I knew it from the start.

This was an okay contemporary story, but it felt really long.

The characters in this were all okay, and it was nice to see them before the events in the series, but the storyline just felt rehashed and kind of redundant. We had Vanessa shaving her head and meeting Dan, Jenny growing massive boobs, and Blair’s father announcing that he was gay, but as we already knew all this stuff, it seemed like there was nothing new going on at all.

We also got the start of the love triangle between Blair, Nate

I borrowed this from the local library because there's been a lot of talk about the Gossip Girl series, especially since the telly show came out. Now, it is VERY rare that I won't finish a book if I start it, and even rarer that I won't at least give it a good chance, but this book? I wouldn't want to waste another minute on it. Seriously, the writing in here makes my beloved Sweet Valley High look like Shakespeare in comparison.

I really enjoyed this book because it is so unlike my life!
This is the prequel to the "Gossip Girl" series. (So its what happened before all the stuff in the series).
I haven't read any other ones besides this one, and now I want to read the rest of them.
But someone said that I shouldn't read the prequel before the whole series because it gives something away...but I understood everything and stuff so I was fine...but I guess it might ruin the rest of the series a little...but probably not.

This book is about how Serena van der Woodsen started falling for Nate and what led to their affair, and why she left Constance Billard School for Girls. When Blair Waldorf began to like Audrey Hepburn and when her dad left her mom for another man, when she first fell in love with Nate, and what caused her to have bulimia. How Nate Archibald came between Blair and Serena. When Nate first learned how to do drugs. How Vanessa got into film making and when she shaved her head to make sure she had l ...more

"Some of you already know the answers--at least you think you do. If you don't, you know where to find them."

As far as last lines in a book go, that one is pretty fantastic. Perfect for readers who have read the series and perfect for ones who saved the prequel for last.

This addition to the Gossip Girl series took me a little while to get into, but now that I have finished it I think that was just because I wasn't in the mood. Reading about everyones life before the events that take place in th

I read some of the Gossip Girl series when they first came out, and then stopped. I've completely forgotten everything about them, and when venturing to the library with my grandma, I saw the prequel & decided I might as well read it, then begin to re-read the series. . . I have never seen a single episode of the show, and have no idea what has gone on. But, I love the writing style the author brings to the table. She gives a very objective, clear omniscient view, followed at the end of para ...more

This was interesting as it was the first GG book I had read for the first time after seeing the tv show, so I kept seeing and hearing the characters as they are on TV (which obviously does not work well for Rufus or Vanessa, for example, nor really for Jenny). It's quite entertaining, and actually does tie pretty well into the rest of the series -- they make very few mistakes with events, chronology, etc., which is pretty impressive given that the quality of the ghostwriting (or in some cases ju ...more

Ok...I have a weird relationship with this book. I kind of like it, but I haven't finished it. I had like 100 pages left, but I couldn't contiunue and I returned it to the library. The TV show is so much better. The book seems so different. I liked Jenny. :) But the ''big boobs'' thing was sooo weird. It made me wander if it is the Jenny I know. Blair is so not like in the TV show. I loved that Blair. In the book she is so Serena :D . I mean doing drugs, drinking, smoking b

Hey people!
Ever have that totally freakish feeling that someone is listening in on your conversation, spying on you and your friends while you sip latters on the ivory-colored steps of the metropolitan Museum of Art, following you to premieres and parties, and just generally stalking you? Well, they are. I am. And the truth is. I've been here all along, because I'm one of you. One of the Chosen Ones. Don't get out much? Hair so processed it's fried your brain? Perhaps you'r
Over time I've grown to known and love our favorite Upper East Side scandal-makers. This prequel takes us back before Vanessa moves to New York and shaves her head, before Jenny had boobs, before Dan started smoking and became a poet, and, most importantly, before Nate, Serena and Blair became the most messed up love triangle ever. In addition to how all those things began, the three watch Breakfast at Tiffany's for the first time, Blair begins her bout with bulimia, Blair's dad comes out of the closet, and Serena decides to go to boarding school.

In the prequel to the GOSSIP GIRL series, Blair, Serena, Nate, Jenny, Dan, Vanessa, and Chuck's nasty little secrets are exposed.

Why Serena left, what attracted Nate to Blair, and every detail about our favorite rich kids are told. And nothing is left to the imagination. How did Serena and Nate end up hooking up before Blair and Nate? Is Vanessa really in love with Dan? What other dirty little deeds has Chuck participated in? Is Jenny really as inno

I read this after finishing the series, which may have been a bad idea, but I don't think it was out when I first started this series. The prequel just delves deeper into the characters' lives before the first book started, but the subsequent books explained the important parts. The prequel was a bit less interesting because of that; I knew what was going to happen. Not so fun, but still likeable.

Also, I'm a bit annoyed at the discrepancy with Serena's character. It takes till the second-to-last

Yes, I am embarrassed to admit that at my age I bought this book! I fell in love with the tv series (yes embarrassed) but what can I say, I am hooked! This book, however, promises to reveal what happened before the tv series started and it revealed literally nothing new.... nothing! It was also very full of weird things like three best friends (one male and two female) who slept in each other's beds (nonsexually of course) constantly since like elem school - what??? Read on blog!!

My judgement of the book is very biased.
Maybe it's because I am currently watching the 5th season.
And I love it(ask raven about it- its my mission to make her fall for it too).

Okay so truth be told, as much as I love watching gossip girl I did not like this book that much.
Its when Blair, Serena and Nate are naive. And knowing what would happen just made me furious cause I couldn't sop it.

The characters in this book enraged me.
Lets take Nate for instance. He has 2 beautiful best

I cared about this slightly less than the others. POSSIBLY because I read 12 books in like a week and a half. Possibly because I didn't really feel like I needed all the details of like, where Nate got that sweater he always wears.

The characters in this could be quite irritating.

This wasn't an awful read, but just like the others, they really struggled to keep my interest. There were parts that dragged quite badly for me because of it.

Overall, Not an awful read, but not one I can say I really enjoyed.

I know what you are thinking. Why the hell I read Gossip Girls books when I could just binge-watching the TV Show? And you know what? I did binge-watching the show, but then I just can't stop thinking about it. So here we are, 416 pages later.

It Had To Be You took place before Serena went to the boarding school. We got to know the full story how Nate cheated on Blair. Or why Chuck acted the way he was with Serena in the earlier season 1 in the TV Show.

It's nice to see those blank being filled.

Serena, Blair, Vanessa, Jenny, Dan, Nate și Chuck ...more

COVER -- It just shows the two main characters, Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf looking back. Since the book was a prequel of the Gossip Girl series, looking back was appropriate because this book will discuss the characters' past.

CONTENT -- Yes, it is the beginning of Gossip Girl where all the scandals, secrets, and all the dirt all started. Their actions and all the events that happened on the twelve books are all preempted in this book. I guess it is the right time to judge the chara

How I Came To Read This Book: Something possessed me to buy it, despite having given up on the GG series several years ago.

The Plot: New York's Upper East Side Prep Schoolers are about to have the time of their lives - not that they haven't dabbled a bit already. Best friends Serena, Nate & Blair are enjoying themselves in mid-winter of their sophomore year when the two ladies realize they've both got feelings for their leading man. Elsewhere, a brother and sister duo by the names of Dan and

So, I must start by admitting that I actually did *not* read the Gossip Girl series before reading the prequel -- but, I did watch Season 1 of the show. And, while I'm admitting things here, I actually *did* really, really enjoy the TV show -- embarassingly so -- and I can't deny that my obsession with streaming GOSSIP GIRL on Netflix was part of the reason I pretty much stopped reading at the end of this past year. Oops.
