recommends it for: American girls who love chick-lit
There is an immediate problem with this book is obvious to the reader who isn't American: it has been written for American women and not for those who live in other parts of the world. Why is this obvious? Well, as the heroine of the book is an interior designer, many products (not just furnishing but food also) are mentioned (many US so it is difficult to picture what these are. But if you have a good imagination and can visualise what these may be, or substitute them for others well known to y...more

So far, so good...I am a little over 100 pages in now. Very cute fast read but refers a lot to Buckhead and other areas/locations of Atlanta. Main character, Keeley, is an interior designer that lives in small town Madison, GA. Of course there is love drama, but she is currently redecorating an old GA masion that was going to be torn down. I like this kind of stuff so it has peaked my interest.

Great beach/summer read. I liked it and was entertained through the book. Pretty predicatab...more

I think I'm giving up on this. I am over half done, but I just cannot make myself care about the characters. There's too much interior design talk for me, and most of the time I don't even know what they are talking about. For someone into that, they'd probably really dig the book, but it's just not for me. I finally figured out I wasn't interested when I opted to balance my checkbook vs sit and read a chapter.

BUT, I read the snippit of Savannah Blues in the back and might just have to c...more

Some good humor here! The scene where the actual Hissy Fit is thrown starts the book off with an bang (really, I'm not kidding) - and this is a hissy fit for the ages. It's a Scarlett O'Hara style hissy fit with throwing things and breaking them and confronting the Miscreant with his transgressions right in front of a country club full of friends and family.
Once the Fit has been thrown this settled down to the aftermath of a spectacularly broken engagement and an improbable romance with a rich...more

This book looks and sounds like typical chick lit but reads very differently. While the main character does thrown a hissy fit at the beginning, one to top any of my brother's temper tantrums in his younger years, she turns her breakup into a quest to find what happened to her mother. Long journey marked by a cute boy interest (no smut involved) and TONS of great description of interior decorating. That's what set this book apart for me and hopefully for you, too.

A story where the main character does everything I wish I had the nerve to do. From throwing the mother of all fits when she finds her fiancee cheating on her to replacing bottled water with toilet water for a very prissy client. Through it all, Keeley Murdoch tries to come to grips with all the changes in her life and keeping up with the demends of an interior designer. The descriptions of fabirc and antiques made me want to do a little redecorating myself!

Southern fried chicklit, not for the intellectual diabetic but an enjoyable waste of time. Stock characters, predictable plot, about as deep as a kiddie wading pool but nonetheless engaging enough to keep you turning those pages. References to brand names (primarily interior decor) and Atlanta & Madison landmarks were initially a fun bit of authenticity but lost zing after the first kazillion of them.

Oh, man. I adored this book. The scene at the beginning of the book is laugh-out-loud funny and something most people can relate to. I devoured the book in about six-seven hours. Some parts I wasn't thrilled with, like the barely surviving town but a well-known interior design firm. Very unrealistic, but if you handwave those incidents, it's so much fun. Nice, light read.

Recommended by a fellow goodreader. This was cute. When bride to be/interior designer in small town Georgia found her groom getting it on with her maid of honor on the boardroom table at the country club during the rehearsal dinner, she threw the hissy fit of a century.

See my review for Savannah Blues. I can't remember which book had the bad beginning. I think it was this one. Anyway, I think there is some sex but the characters are fun and it is a quick read. Sorry, I listened to these books on CD and so I could easily fast forward over the crud. I don't know how easily that can be done if reading the actual book. . .

Cute quick read.... bride finds her husband and maid of honor doing the deed during her rehearsal dinner..she throws the hissiest of all hissy fits and moves on in her life. Knight in Shining Armor comes in the form of a bra factory owner..... good stories and quirky humor there too. I like her style of writing-I'll read more of her. nice beach/weekend read.

This was the first Mary Kay Andrews book I read but certainly not the last. I loved the Southern influence without seemingly being ridiculed. I found a copy in a second hand shop while my visiting niece, her hubby and family browsed. Got involved with the heroine right off and couldn't put it down. I found it to be a fun, light read.

When Keeley Murdock discovers her fiance "doing the deed" with her maid of honor at their rehearsal dinner, she throws a "hissy fit" and cancels the wedding which causes havoc in Madison, Georgia.

Wild and crazy incidents and characters. The small-town bra factory scenes will make you laugh out loud. Highly recommend.

This was my first Mary Kay Andrews book and I read it in 2 days. I had to find out immediately what else she had written and I loved those even more. I have also read another book that was written under her real name Kathy Hogan Trocheck and it was okay (I can't remember the title but I did finish it)

I actually laughed out loud--Mary Kay Andrews has recorded all the quirks of southern society in a very readable, entertaining story. You'll recognize someone from your life if you've grown up south of the Mason-Dixon line. Thoroughly enjoyed it--and highly recommend it.

I love Mary Kay Andrews and how richly she can weave a story. The descriptions of the surroundings were fantastic and it makes me want to redecorate my house. I love the blending in of antiques and plantation houses that give you that southern feel. Great beach read!

Starts off with a girl who at her rehearsal dinner finds her fiance cheating on her. Then she throws a huge "Hissy Fit" and is the talk of the town afterwards. The story goes on about her life and what happens after you call off your wedding. A cute, fun read.
