The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge: I wasn't able to find the Naxos audiobook of His Last Bow for a while, so I listened to this story in its BBC radioplay adaptation. That was so painful to me that I decided not to repeat it. The BBC's Holmes and Watson were lovely, but the rest of the story ... it has to do with two groups of people who have been struggling for political power in Central America, and who now apparently have nothing better to do than hunt one another through quiet English villages ...more

Arthur Conan Doyle was born the third of ten siblings on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father, Charles Altamont Doyle, was born in England of Irish descent, and his mother, born Mary Foley, was Irish. They were married in 1855.
